Painting a White Horse Portrait in Oil Paints
Hello all, this a re-edited version of my previous oil horse painting, but just without the intro. Hope you enjoy.
Many people will know that most of the works I do are very detail based, and I don’t think too much about anything other than details, but everything has changed for this video, I wanted to focus on what would be expressed in this painting, how the viewer would see it, and most of all, I was so captivated by how the light fell onto his fur, and I knew I just had to get that all down on canvas. When I went to take the reference pictures, I was so captivated by the light that was hitting his fur, that I knew I just had to capture those tones that were showing within him, the way the grey light areas had that subtle hint of blue, and the way his nose just played so well into that light, everything about going to see him in person just inspired me to create this portrait of him. He is rather a cheeky horse, and I didn't want to exaggerate the type of horse he is, so I included the way the colours play with his mane to come across as warm, and gentle, and the light on his face to express his kind yet cheeky nature, but still not to underestimate the power of him amazing animal.
I hope you all enjoy this video, and please consider subscribing, thank you for watching.
(The stick that was supporting my hand that I forgot the name to is called a Maulstick if anyone is interested, and the size of the artwork is 16x20 Inches)
