Finest Known 1879 Indian Head Cent Worth $40,000 or More!

This is not just any 1879 Indian Head Cent; it is one of the finest known. We filmed this example at a lot viewing days before Stack's Bowers sold it for $22,800. The coin, graded MS67RD, was a pop four coin at the time, with none finer. A fifth coin was added to the PCGS MS67RD census later that year, but this coin was conserved to remove the small copper spot located in Liberty's hair and upgraded to PCGS MS67+RD, where it is the sole finest known. Today, this coin could be worth $40,000 or more. For collectors of the Indian Head Cent series, 1879 marks a significant milestone, separating the scarcer dates from the series' first 20 years and the readily available coins struck over the series' final 30 years.
