More than 65,000 people lined up the
0:02
streets along the Mal as the lionesses
0:04
celebrated their victory in the 2025
0:07
Women's Euros with an open top bus
0:09
parade followed by a ceremony in front
0:11
of Buckingham Palace. It was a sea of
0:14
red and white flags and bucket hats as
0:16
fans of all ages gathered to see their
0:19
heroes take the stage. But what will the
0:21
Lioness's legacy be? And have they
0:23
encouraged more people to engage with
0:25
women's football? We asked some of those
0:28
on the ground at the victory parade.
0:30
Have the lionesses made you want to
0:32
watch or play football?
0:34
Oh, 100%. Yeah, I believe it's
0:35
incredible. Where they've come from to
0:38
I barely watched it at all before. So
0:40
before the swords and now you're really
0:43
I love it. I love the last one they did
0:44
as well. It's so good.
0:45
Me and my sister went to the pub for the
0:46
last final when we won 2022 and we were
0:48
like the only two people in the pub and
0:50
now we packed off. It was great.
0:51
Do you watch WSL games at all?
0:53
Yeah, all the time. Yeah. Uh so um my
0:55
daughter she's disappeared but uh yeah
0:57
we go to Chelsea Lou that's our main
0:59
Do you usually go to WSL games?
1:02
Yeah we have been. Yeah we been to main
1:05
do you think the win is going to make
1:07
you go to more WSL games as well?
1:09
We do already. We we've been to Arsenal
1:11
already um Arsenal and Tottenham.
1:13
And what do you think the Lionus's win
1:15
means for winners football?
1:17
Oh absolutely. She started playing after
1:18
the last time they won the Euro. So um
1:21
yeah she loves football now. She trains
1:23
twice a week. Clay's on a Sunday, so she
1:25
Do you think your interest is only going
1:27
Do you think now with the win, are you
1:29
more likely to go to more WSL games?
1:31
100%. Yeah, I think the same for
1:33
everyone. I think it's just it's
1:34
incredible what they've done for the
1:36
People here, do you think they're going
1:37
to be more inclined to to go to more
1:40
So, we've seen loads of little girls and
1:42
like in the full kit and everything. So,
1:43
hopefully they want to go more.
1:45
Fans we spoke to said England's triumph
1:47
over Spain had made them more likely to
1:49
want to watch and play women's football.
1:52
and parents praised the impact of the
1:54
lionesses on young girls taking up
1:56
football. The figures behind the 2025
1:58
women's euros prove the growth in the
2:00
women's game. Before the tournament,
2:02
UEFA forecasted the women's euros would
2:05
deliver a revenue of 111.3 million
2:08
pounds. That's double what the women's
2:10
euros generated in 2022. Sponsorship
2:14
levels were also projected to break
2:16
records with revenue from this stream
2:18
forecasted to be 145% higher compared to
2:22
the 2022 tournament. When England last
2:25
won the Women's Euros back in 2022, the
2:28
domestic league saw significant growth.
2:30
All women's Super League clubs saw
2:32
increases in attendance levels the
2:34
following season with the game between
2:36
Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur setting a
2:39
then attendance record of more than
2:41
47,000 fans. That record was broken in
2:45
the 2023 24 season when Arsenal's game
2:48
against Manchester United was attended
2:50
by just over 60,000 people. WSL
2:53
attendance levels slightly dropped last
2:55
season with an average decrease of 10%
2:58
compared to the season before. While the
3:00
2025 Women's Euros celebrations
3:03
continue, attention is turning to the
3:05
next women's Super League season and
3:07
whether the domestic game can once again
3:10
capitalize on the increased visibility
3:12
of women's football thanks to the
3:14
Lioness's triumph in Switzerland. The
3:17
answer from fans who turned up to the
3:18
parade seems to be a resounding yes. For
