ified plans for Australia's 7 billion
0:02
dollar infantry fighting vehicles have
0:04
been exposed in an apparent cyber
0:06
attack. National national security
0:09
editor Tim Lester joins us now with the
0:10
details live from CRA. Tim, good
0:12
afternoon. This cyber attack wasn't
0:14
aimed at Australian interests, but our
0:16
military could certainly be harmed by
0:19
Yes, TS. This attack was in fact a
0:22
largecale hacking of Israeli defense
0:25
companies. You wouldn't think ordinarily
0:27
that would trouble Australian defense
0:29
circles, but it does in this case
0:32
because those Israeli companies held
0:34
among other things the plans for the
0:37
Redback and next uh infantry fighting
0:40
vehicle. The uh hacking group is known
0:43
as Cyber Tufan and it's posted 3D
0:46
renderings and technical data on the
0:49
redback after it gained access to a
0:52
total of 17 Israeli defense sites. Cyber
0:56
Tufan is believed to have state backing
0:59
from Iran, although it doesn't concede
1:02
as much. It therefore targets Israel.
1:05
And one of the companies breached in the
1:07
attack is the Israeli military company
1:10
uh that produces advanced weapons
1:12
turrets and their plan for use on the
1:15
redback. So we presume that's the link
1:17
that has led to this leak. 7 News has
1:20
requested information from the
1:22
Australian Defense Force on just how
1:24
damaging this attack is. It is yet to
1:30
Tim Lester, thank you.
