Here are five tips and tricks for piping
0:01
on cakes. First of all, let's fit the
0:03
piping tip properly so that it doesn't
0:05
explode out of the bag as you're piping.
0:07
Now the piping tip is sitting snug in
0:08
the piping bag. Next trick, how to fill
0:11
a piping bag. Drop the piping tip side
0:13
down into a glass, fold it over the rim,
0:16
and this will keep the piping bag open
0:17
while you fill it so that you don't get
0:19
buttercream on the outside of the bag,
0:21
which will then get all over your hand
0:22
when you're piping. Spoon the
0:24
buttercream in, and then pinch the ends
0:27
of your piping bag,
0:30
pull them up, push the buttercream down,
0:33
twist it to hold it tight,
0:35
and it's ready to go. If you don't use
0:37
the cup or glass method and just spoon
0:39
your buttercream straight into the bag,
0:41
when you try to squeeze the bag to pipe
0:43
with it, you'll have buttercream all
0:44
over your fingers.
0:47
When you refill a piping bag after it
0:49
runs out, squeeze until the buttercream
0:50
bursts out, which is the air bubble in
0:53
between the old buttercream and the new
0:54
buttercream, and it causes a bit of an
0:56
explosion of buttercream. So, squeeze
0:58
that into your bowl before you start
0:59
piping on your cake. For some styles of
1:01
piping, there will be a join or a seam,
1:03
and you can either try to space these
1:04
out around the cake to hide them or just
1:06
line them all up on top of each other,
1:07
and that will be the back of the cake.
1:09
If you want to pipe specific shapes like
1:11
these swags, use a cookie cutter to give
1:13
yourself guidelines to follow. Follow
