Hey everyone and welcome to Bourbon Bites Whiskey Reviews with a gaming twist
0:04
I'm Clifton and today we're reviewing Bardstown Bourbon Company Fusion and Discovery Series 4
0:13
So if you didn't know Bardstown Bourbon Company is a pretty new distillery in the world of
0:18
Kentucky distilleries but what they really really specialize in is transparency. So they are one of
0:24
the most transparent distilleries I've ever seen. They tell you exactly what is in each of these
0:30
especially the ones that are blends, and they're really upfront about everything, which is pretty
0:34
awesome. So the first product we're reviewing is Fusion Series 4. Now, I think this is pretty much
0:39
a brand new product. I haven't filmed very much about it online since it was announced in December
0:43
of last year, so I'm very excited to be one of the first to review it for you. Like I said
0:47
Bart's Don Berwyn Company is known for transparency, so they tell you exactly what into this bottle
0:51
This is 40% of a 13-year-old Kentucky bourbon, and then they break down what's in the rest of this
0:57
So it's all their own distillate, but it's different mash bills. So I'll put up a little chart over here just to give you some guidance what went into this Fusion Series 4
1:04
It comes out at 94.9 proof and is about $59.99 MSRP. So let's go ahead and give it a try
1:10
So on the nose, the first thing that hits me is a lot of dark fruit, almost like an overripe cherry
1:16
But it does have a lot of sweetness. I think there a lot of corn sweetness in this but it is kind of savory It kind of has like a savory smokiness there on the nose as well Let go ahead and give it a try Cheers
1:28
Interesting. So as I predicted, with that 40% of the 13-year-old Kentucky bourbon, this is a pretty oak forward whiskey
1:34
It starts out with those like darker tobacco notes that you normally get on the finish
1:38
but for some reason this presents up front with that. And then it kind of slowly transitions into like a sweeter, dessert-y, almost like a creme brulee kind of note on the mid palate
1:46
Still very dry though, it does have that corn sweetness. I think some of the youth does show up there
1:51
Interestingly enough, it kind of presents itself like a Tennessee whiskey. It has a little bit of that minerality there, sort of like a salted caramel popcorn kind
1:58
of note on the palate. But it's really well-rounded. It blends their young distillate of their own with this really old Kentucky bourbon
2:06
I think it balances itself out. Really, really nice whiskey for the price point. So with that being said, let's move on to Discovery Series 4
2:13
So speaking of price point, this one is pretty much double the price of the Fusion series
2:18
MSRP on it is $130, and it does come in at $115 proof
2:22
However, I'm really, really excited to give this a try, because what it is is a blend of three very, very well-aged Kentucky bourbons
2:30
So like last time, I'm going to put up a chart here, but this is 55% of a 13-year-old Kentucky bourbon, 37% with a 15-year Kentucky bourbon
2:38
Now this is the Mystery Mashville that a lot of different brands are using We don know where it from but if you think you know leave me a comment below with what you think this whiskey is But there also 8 of a 10 Kentucky bourbon and I not going to say any names but that one reminds me of a very nutty
2:54
mash bill that I'm very fond of. So let's go ahead and give this a nose. Oh yeah, this nose is a lot
2:59
drier. It's like a lot of dry oak on the front. Definitely smells older, but then again, it's a
3:03
lot sweeter. It's like a deserty sweetness. I almost want to say lemon pound cake. That's not a note
3:09
I've ever given before, but it is really reminiscent of that like sweet icing that's often on a lemon
3:14
pound cake, but it does have kind of like a burnt crust kind of note too. I really, really love the
3:18
nose on this, but let's give it a try. Cheers. Ooh, wow. That is a flavor punch. It's definitely
3:28
spicy and hot up front, almost like biting into a hot pepper. I would say it drinks hotter than
3:33
115 proof, but y'all know I love the proof, so I'm here for it. But once you get past the initial
3:37
shock. It's still got a lot of that sweet oak that I was getting on the nose. Definitely more vanilla
3:42
forward than the first one. And combined, it's kind of like a spice cake. I'm really still getting
3:46
those cake notes with this one. It's not your typical baking spices you get with a lot of
3:49
bourbons. This one's full-on cinnamon to me. But the finish on this one is really, really nice. It's
3:54
definitely a lot longer than the Fusion series. It kind of goes like a milk chocolate sweetness
3:58
but still some nuttiness with that oak So overall I gotta say I am super impressed with Bardstown Bourbon Company I so glad I finally got a chance to try it because I been hearing people rave about it forever I think both of these are really great for the price point I think the Fusion Series is a great entry into the Bardstown Bourbon Company brand It approachable
4:17
It's not that expensive. It's about 60 bucks. That lower proof is very accessible to a lot of people
4:22
It does show some of that youth, but I don't think it does it in a bad way. I think it's very well
4:26
rounded. But still, it's really cool to try a blend of what they're distilling combined with
4:30
something that's older. It really kind of gives a preview of probably what they're going for with their flavor profile when they eventually get their stock aged that long. But this Discovery
4:38
Series, I gotta pour a little bit more of that. So while $130 does seem like a steep price point
4:43
this is every bit worth it. It has that older stock of Kentucky whiskey, masterfully blended
4:48
I will say, I don't really have very many blended whiskeys in my collection, but this one is done
4:54
really, really well. So thank you guys so much for watching. Let me know if you've tried anything
4:57
from Barstown Bourbon Company. They have some collaboration series that seem really, really cool
5:02
I'm so excited to try a lot of those. I think I do have a couple samples of the collaboration series
5:06
I haven't tried them yet, so let me know in the comments below if that's something you're interested in watching, and definitely give this a thumbs up if you want to see more Barstown Bourbon Company
5:13
here on this channel. So until next time, this has been Bourbon Bytes Whiskey Reviews with a
5:17
gaming twist. I'm Clifton, cheers, and I'll see y'all next video
