Maker's Mark Cask Strength Bourbon Whisky Review

It's so stinking cute

Hey guys, my name is Clifton and today I am reviewing Maker's Mark Cask Strength in this

cute little 375ml bottle. So I actually grabbed the bottle like this because my local store was

having a sale two for $30. So two of these basically is the exact same as the 750ml

So that's a really good deal because this stuff usually goes for I would say about 50 bucks

maybe a little more depending on the store. This is basically just a cast strength release of

Maker's Mark. So to be perfectly honest, the only thing I don't like from Maker's Mark is Maker's

Mark. So their basic stuff, like their regular entry-level Maker's Mark, really doesn't hit the

spot for me. Every time I've tried it, I feel like I always wish I had reached for something else

It's not that it's bad. It's just it lacks a lot of really interesting character that I get from

most other bourbons that I buy. But that being said, every other release from Maker's Mart that

I've had has been fantastic. So it may just be a personal palette thing. I think they really do

shine when they do a higher proof, first of all. And second of all, they like to do a lot of

experimenting with their types of wood. So one of my favorite go-tos is Maker's 46, which they

finished with a specific additional oak stave It definitely develops the flavor a lot And they also do private selects So they have like I think it six different recipes of wood that they add to the barrel after they aged it And it completely changes the

flavor profile. This doesn't have any of that going on. This is their basically their regular

stuff, but it's just bottled at cast strength. And this is 55.65% alcohol. So 111.3 proof

I'm not sure how much that varies on their release by release. This says it's batch number 1501. So

I'm excited to finally review this for you guys because this has been a long time member of my

collection. So let's go ahead and open it up and give it a taste. So right off the back you can tell

this isn't your everyday makers just because of how dark it is. I mean you get that darkness on

like their Makers 46 but their standard Makers I've always seen as kind of like a lighter color

and on the nose there is already so much more going on in this than a regular glass of Maker's

Mark. So Maker's Mark is a weeded bourbon but I really really get that weed. It's really forward

on the cast strength version. The first thing I saw, it's like fresh baked bread. Um, and I really

like it. It's like, uh, like a dessert, like maybe like a, um, like a pound cake or something. It's

it's like fresh bread, but it has like a sweet, like a caramel or even like a, like a, like a

sugar glaze, like a, like a donut. That's kind of what I'm getting on this nose. It's really sweet

and it's really unique because I don't think I've ever had another weeded bourbon that's this high

of proof But this really stands out on the nose It smells like a really good bready dessert Lots of vanilla almost like a creme brulee on the nose So I excited to see if that tastes the same way So let give it a taste

So if you like Maker's Mark, this is undoubtedly Maker's Mark. I mean, it tastes like, in my opinion, a better version of Maker's Mark

So you get the standard flavor you get on Maker's Mark, which isn't my favorite, but it really evolves on the palate

Like, I get lots of different layers of the oak that stand out on this, and I don't ever really get oakiness on Maker's Mark

I still get that dessert quality, almost like a cakey dessert, but it really does stand out with this proof

You get a lot more going on, and for being cast strength, this is one of the most drinkable cast strength releases I've ever had

It's really rich and flavorful, and that's something that, like I said, I don't really get on standard makers

I think the cast strength really brings out the elements of Maker's Mark that people love

So like I said, if you are a fan of their normal stuff, give the Cast Strength this try

I know it's a little pricey, but if you've never tried a Cast Strength bourbon and you're kind of looking to experiment

this would be a good one to go into because it doesn't have that harsh, you know, burn that a lot of Cast Strength whiskey has

I mean, it burns because it's high proof, but that wheat element of Maker's Mark really does tone it down a bit

It gives it such a dessert sweet quality that I think I love about Maker Mark like their Private Select and their Maker 46 It not something that you have to sit down and take so much time with trying to figure out the notes because there a lot of things going on in this class but the overwhelming thing is it good So I hands down give this a recommendation

The pricing does really vary. Like I said, I could get basically the equivalent of a 750

milliliter for 30, but I know some places have it for 50, maybe 60. But then again, you know

most Cast Strength whiskeys are in that same price range, so it's not really that off

So if you can get it cheaper, I definitely recommend that. But I don't say that it's

not worth the higher price. Now, I say that because Maker's Private Select, which is their

one where people pick the different staves to go into it, and they do store releases or bars

and things like that. That's usually around $60 near me, and personally, I would definitely take

that over this one. But if you can't get that for the price, and this is the only thing available

definitely give it a try. If you've never had cast strength maker's mark, I think you're really

missing out. It's always a surprise when I come back to it of how much I like it. And by the way
