Subaru has just taken the wraps off the 2026 Forester Wilderness. Built on the new Forester platform that debut last year, this is the first second-generation Wilderness model in the brand’s lineup. Although there’s no radical departure from Subaru’s Wildernessification, there are some new pieces here and there.

Subaru has just introduced the 2026 Forrester Wilderness, and it is built on the all-new
0:10
Forrester platform that debuted last year. This is technically the first, second generation wilderness, and although it doesn't stray
0:16
too far from the usual formula, there are some new bits and pieces, so let's take a look
0:30
The 2026 Wilderness features LED hexagonal fog lights, and there's underbody protection, but it's mostly plastic
0:48
There's various anodized copper finish exterior accents, front and rear bumper toe hook covers, and of course copious wilderness badging
0:55
Unlike some competitors, when Subaru ruggedizes in SUV, it's more than just a little
0:59
an appearance and knobby tire package. There's some actual built-in extra capability
1:05
With longer coil springs and shock absorbers, the 2026 Subaru Forrester Wilderness will once again
1:10
include a higher ground clearance rated at 9.3 inches, which is a pretty good upgrade from
1:16
the standard 8.7 inches and other foresters. Like every other forester that's not the hybrid
1:22
the new wilderness uses a 2.5-liter flat four-cylinder engine that makes 180 horsepower and 178
1:28
pound feet of torque. All of that power is sent through a continuously variable transmission
1:33
to all four wheels using Subaru's symmetrical all-wheel drive system. As this is a wilderness
1:38
the transmission features a shorter final drive ratio for more precise control when off The symmetrical all drive system I mentioned earlier doesn really differ from 2025 foresters though but there are Yokohama Geolander tires unique 17 alloy wheels
1:54
and better transmission cooling, which will allow the wilderness to tow 3,500 pounds, which is more
1:59
than any other forester. Inside the 26thor wilderness has the usual upgrades with weather-resistant
2:06
soft-touch seats, anodized copper-finished trim bits, and of course more wilderness badging
2:11
because everyone needs to know what you're driving, even those inside the vehicle. Like other high trims of the 26th Boister, the Wilderness will include the new, configurable
2:20
12.3-inch digital gauge cluster that debuted last year in the hybrid. There are some custom graphics
2:26
for the wilderness though, which aren't available in the other vehicles. In the center of the SUV
2:31
sit Subaru's 11.6 inch infotainment system that's available in pretty much every model not called the BRZ
2:37
The system in the wilderness features standard navigation as well as wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto
2:44
Subaru's most recent eyesight suite of safety systems is standard and includes all the latest updates such as wide-viewed camera and emergency lane keep assist
2:53
For the overlanders, the standard roof rails can hold up to 800 pounds when parked or 176 pounds while driving
2:59
Pricing and more details will be available closer to the wilderness's launch, which is planned for later this fall
