Imagine a wireless Qi charging device that has the ability to charge three devices simultaneously! Yes, the LumiCharge Universal Charger is as useful as you would imagine with built-in Qi wireless charging along with charging plugs for USB-C and MicroUSB, a USB-C to Lightning adapter and a USB-3.0 power plug on the back of the unit. Tech expert Dave Taylor of https://www.AskDaveTaylor.com/ plugged in a variety of devices to check their charge speed, including an iPhone 11 Pro and both a Google Pixel 4a and Google Pixel 3 XL. The results? It's a pretty sweet addition to any desktop, side table or office space.

Is this the world's most versatile wireless charger? Let's check it out
0:11
Dave Taylor here and I'm checking out this. This is the LumaCharge universal charger and it's
0:17
pretty slick. Now LumaCharge generally makes lamps with built-in wireless charging bases
0:24
and I reviewed one if you want to check that review out, it's from a while ago
0:27
But I think what happened is as they evolved their product line they realized that people
0:32
really liked their chargers. So this is the outcome of that. This is actually a pretty
0:37
slick device. Now no surprise the top is, I just happen to have a handy wireless phone here
0:44
the top is a wireless charger. So now my iPhone 11 Pro is charging wirelessly here. But you might
0:52
not realize but it actually is adjustable. So I can also do it like this which gives me the
1:01
ability to charge and to have it for example right by my computer so I can have it as a second screen
1:07
or just keep track of things. Or maybe I would prefer having it in the other orientation. I can
1:13
do that too. And again notice each time it pops back into the charging mode. So super helpful
1:21
very efficient. There's lots to like about the flexibility of this and it is pretty generous
1:27
in terms of positioning to make sure you're getting a wireless charge. But that's just one
1:32
phone. What if I have a second phone? And what if that second phone doesn't do wireless but it does
1:40
have, when I look on the bottom, USB-C. Well no problem because this actually has other charging
1:47
plugs. On the bottom is this sort of funky little rotating little wheel where on one side it's USB-C
1:54
and then if I rotate it to the other side it's micro USB. So let's rotate it to USB-C. Let's put
2:02
this phone on and we'll have this one. This is the Google Pixel 4a. So now that one's charging
2:09
while the iPhone is still charging behind it. So super handy. But then someone else comes along
2:16
and they, wouldn't you know it, have a phone and they really need a charge. So this is the
2:22
Google Pixel 3 XL and it's a big screen. They're really, I like the pixel line, they're really cool
2:28
But this one also has USB-C. Well everything's in use, right? Wrong! Because on the back there is an
2:37
additional USB 3.0 power port. So I could actually plug in my handy cable and let's plug this in
2:48
And so now when I plug this in I am charging three phones simultaneously. How cool is that, right
2:57
So really cool design. Lots to like about it. Let's unplug everything though because there's a secret
3:05
too. So we've already ascertained that this can plug in and charge basically any of the major
3:11
connectors. But what if you need another lightning plug? Well hidden on the bottom is the smallest
3:19
micro USB-C to lightning adapter. So how do I use that? Well let's go back to, there's my iPhone
3:29
So I'll plug this into my iPhone. Plug this, let's just have it face forward. Plug this into the USB-C
3:37
charging plug and it is now charging. Let's see, let's see, it's not showing on here. Let me, I have
3:48
a lot of problems with dirt in my lightning port. Let's try this again. There we go. So now this is
3:55
with a wired connection which is going to be faster, right? So between all of these little
4:01
connections and this micro adapter that you can just tuck into the bottom if you don't need it
4:07
there's nothing you can't charge with this thing. So let me tell you a little bit about it. So it is
4:15
a silver infused ABS plastic. So what's ABS plastic? Okay, you ready? It is acrylonitrile
4:24
butadiene styrene. That's why people use the acronym. It is a plastic that has a higher
4:30
melt point and is a little tougher. So it's used in tons of things like bumpers and bike helmets
4:37
and such. In this case it's silver infused to cut back on bacteria and such. So what you have is you
4:43
have a really nice feeling and a really nice looking plastic that actually, because of the
4:50
way it's designed, shouldn't have any bacteria or any other crud build up on it. I mean it's still
4:55
going to get dirty, it's not magic, but it is actually that silver infused which is kind of a
5:01
fun addition. So the wireless part is a 10 watt Qi wireless charger and then the wheel also gives
5:11
you that same 10 watts and the back is 2 amps. So basically they're all the same. They all power at
5:18
the same level, although you know there are new wireless charging specs coming out that are going
5:24
to be even faster. But wireless charging just isn't super fast. It's just it's the convenience
5:30
that you're getting then you're trading off versus plugging it in, which lets more current flow into
5:35
your device. It's just the way it is. So I thought hmm let's run some tests on this and let's time it
5:42
And I learned something really interesting about the iPhone because my first test I took it from
5:47
about 70 or I don't know 75 to like 95 percent charge and I did the math and it turned out that
5:53
it was picking up a 28 percent charge in an hour on the wireless charger. And I thought that's pretty
6:00
low. So I reached out to the company and they reminded me that Apple like many companies uses
6:06
what's known as power management. So as you get more charged it actually slows down the rate of
6:12
charge. So the amount of time it takes to get from 90 percent to 100 percent is a lot longer than the
6:19
time it takes to get from 20 percent to 30 percent. So pretty interesting. I then took my phone and I
6:26
drained it all the way down to like seven percent and then put it on here again. And that time when
6:33
it was a very low charge on the phone it got a 44 percent charge in one hour. So I thought that was
6:40
super interesting that when it needs a lot of power it can get 44 percent. But when I'm near the top of
6:46
that charge level it slowed down so much that I only got a 28 percent charge in an hour. What this
6:52
means is that the amount of charge that you're going to get on your more modern sophisticated
6:57
wireless device depends on how close to full your charge already is. So there you go you learned
7:04
something new here. So then I thought all right well let's put the Pixel 4a on the charging wheel
7:12
and see what that does. And that did pretty solid that got a 56 percent charge in an hour. So you
7:18
know putting these together the company assures me you can charge all three and they'll charge
7:22
at the same rate as if you charged each individually. There's enough power inside of this
7:27
So pretty solid specs there. Now I do want to point out that there is a necessary wall plug you have
7:36
to have and that's this. And it's a really nice design. I'm so tired of these bulky you know square
7:44
black chargers. So it's really nice to have this wall plug that is something that feels so slick
7:51
and sleek. And the wire I would estimate this is maybe a four or five foot long wire. Plenty
7:58
enough if you have the plug near where you're going to have your wireless charger. Otherwise
8:03
you might need to resort to something like an extension cord just to get that additional length
8:08
But probably you won't. And then you plug it in and there is also an indicator light for the
8:14
wireless charging. So if I put this on you'll notice that it goes from red to blue. And that
8:21
shows you that it is actually successfully charging. Now given its positioning I think
8:26
that's really only for debugging sessions. Because if you're using it like this or something
8:30
you know this is all well and good. But you're never going to see that light
8:35
So not sure that's hugely important but worth mentioning. So there's lots I like about this. I
8:41
really like the fact that it is so flexible and that you can charge everything without having to
8:47
go and run around and find any adapters or plugs or anything like that. Especially that wheel in
8:52
the front. Though why the wheel doesn't also include a lightning plug to just have all three
8:57
I don't know. You do have the adapter at the bottom. But still it'd be even more convenient
9:02
to have all three on there right? So it goes. The plastic and everything is really a nice finish
9:09
I still kind of wish it was available in black just to give you that option. Maybe that's coming
9:15
I didn't find it on their website. But other than that not much not to like about this. If you have
9:22
to deal with charging devices this is a really nice solution. This would be great on your desk
9:28
This could be on the side table in a conference room. This could be on your bedside and you could
9:32
be charging your phone and your tablet and your spouse's phone all at the same time. Pretty handy
9:38
right? So it is dimensions wise four inches by three inches by one and a half inches and it is
9:45
1.5 pounds. But it really there's no significant weight to it. This is not really a portable device
9:52
though so it doesn't probably really matter that much. But that's just worth knowing. I will say
9:58
that I anticipate that this little plastic the clear plastic cover will eventually be annoying
10:04
and I won't want it. So we'll see how that plays out over time. But all in all lots to like
10:11
Definitely worth checking out and a really solid option price wise. But before we get to the price
10:17
I'm going to ask if you would be so kind as to subscribe to my channel. Really appreciate when
10:22
you do that and it helps us stay in touch. And as you can tell I'm really honest. I'm really
10:27
straightforward in my reviews. No hype. I'm not getting paid by the company to do this for sure
10:33
So all worth checking out. Now this is the LumaCharge Universal Charger and it's $39.99
10:42
at Amazon.com and yes it does include this fantastic micro lightning adapter because I
10:49
know you want to know that. So that's all I got. I'm going to get all my devices back to be charging
10:54
which means I'll catch you, I hope, in my next video
