Qi2 is the latest generation of wireless charging and ESR is fast out of the gate with its Qi2 15W Car Mount and Charger, all ready for the very latest gear. It's like MagSafe for non-Apple devices, but it's even better than that, and the ESR unit, as tech expert Dave Taylor demonstrates, also offers both a vent and dash mount option too! Lots to consider, but a solid option.

A Qi 2 car charger? This is a new technology. Let's check it out
0:12
Dave Taylor here, and I want to talk about wireless charging for your car
0:16
Now, the original wireless charging was called Qi, Q-I, and it was pretty good
0:22
And a lot of devices still use it, particularly on the Android side
0:26
The problem is that you've got to get your phone perfectly aligned to get good results
0:31
Apple looked at that and said, hmm, let's add some magnets. So they created something called MagSafe
0:37
And MagSafe works really good, but Apple, with its typical caution, has lower wattage
0:43
so that they make sure your device doesn't heat up. So there's Qi charging, there's MagSafe charging, and now there's Qi 2
0:52
And the big difference from Qi to Qi 2 is that it adds magnets, just like Apple MagSafe
0:58
But, of course, for the wide range of devices, including Android phones, someday
1:04
So, this is the ESR Qi 2 15-watt MagSafe car mount charger
1:12
And you can see it has a little plug on the bottom for a wire
1:16
and then it comes with this clip-on vent mount that you can orient however you want
1:22
And there's also a dashboard mount. So Qi 2, this is a Qi 2 certified charger, is going to work faster
1:30
But now the downside is no Android phones on the market yet
1:35
including the latest from Google or Samsung, support Qi 2. So you're not going to get the huge advantage that you see with Apple phones
1:45
Now, Apple actually, with the iPhone 15, does support Qi 2. So, essentially it works just like MagSafe, but you get a bigger charge
1:55
So I used my iPhone 15 Pro with this, we'll come back to that in a second
2:00
and it gave me 67% charge in 60 minutes. That was pretty sweet
2:05
Now, important to mention is I started with a 36% charge, because starting at zero and starting at 60% actually give you different charge rates
2:15
But 32% in 30 minutes, that was pretty solid. Usually my MagSafe chargers are a lot slower than that
2:22
So Qi 2 gives you less heat, better device safety, and faster charge
2:29
And the particular unit from ESR is very slick, comes with lots of stuff
2:35
So, let me actually jump into the front seat of the car and I'll show you how this works
2:40
The whole setup is pretty easy to work with. So the main charging unit has a screw on the back that you use
2:47
and then you put the ball in for the ball mount. This is the actual dashboard mount, and you can see there's sticky tape
2:56
They even include a dry wipe so that you can make sure that your dashboard is perfectly clean
3:02
I'm not going to use that mount. I'm going to use the vent clip mount
3:06
So, this one's slightly more complicated, but the idea is that you have this
3:11
that's going to clip onto a blade of the air control, and then you have this little stabilizing foot
3:20
So, here I'm in a Toyota Sienna minivan. I'm going to go ahead and clip this onto that blade
3:26
and then I'm going to adjust that so that it gives me some more support
3:30
And it's pretty easy to do. So, there it's on, and then I just adjust this so that I get a little extra support
3:40
There we go. And that's 90% of the work. Then I'm going to need to put this on, but before I do that, I need to plug in the cable
3:49
And here's where the Toyota doesn't do a great job. This is a nice new Toyota Sienna, but the wire plug right here is USB-A
3:58
And this, as you can see, is USB-C to USB-C. However, they thoughtfully include an adapter
4:05
So, we're going to use that, and then that lets me plug this in
4:12
Hopefully. Let's see. There we go. That's plugged in. And so, now I'm going to put this on the bottom
4:22
You can see there's a USB-C plug there. And normally, I'd clean up the wires a little bit, but we'll just do it like this
4:30
I'm going to loosen this, put this on, and then tighten it a little bit
4:37
And that's nice and tight, and we have that little foot there to keep it supported
4:42
And now, I'm going to just put my phone on there. So, in reality, it's not a perfect spot because of the shifter, but for now, we can use this for a demo
4:52
And now, let me start the car, and we'll see if it's actually charging
4:57
So, car starts up. And, there we go. And you can see right here, it's now wirelessly charging as I go, which is great because that's exactly what I want
5:12
So, you have the vent mount, you have the dashboard mount, you have that USB-A to USB-C adapter
5:20
You have the dry wipe. Lots to like here. But, there is a certain constraint that we need to talk about, so let me jump back on camera
5:29
So, you can see it's very flexible, and there's lots to like, and it has a nice strong magnet, and I really like that
5:36
This is with a MagSafe case, too, and it worked just fine
5:41
The wrinkle is, you have to be giving this 20 watts of power or more
5:47
And most of the USB-A or USB-C plugs in cars aren't delivering that much wattage
5:54
So, to get the maximum benefit, you'll probably need to buy a car charger and plug it into the 12-volt plug
6:01
Or, you can just say, whatever, I'll plug it into my car, I'll know that this has the ability to give me the best possible charge
6:09
whatever the heck wattage I'm getting out of my car's USB plug, and you can do that
6:14
And so, that works just fine. So, this is definitely one to check out
6:19
I use my phone in the car. I definitely want to charge my phone in the car
6:24
And the convenience of using MagSafe and not having to worry about it, absolute win
6:30
The idea that this is brand new, the most modern technology, also a great win
6:35
This is definitely one worth checking out. Now, we do need to talk about the cost, but before we get to the cost, I'm going to invite you to subscribe to my channel
6:44
Just go ahead and click on that subscribe button. Don't forget to also click on that bell icon for notifications
6:50
And if this was helpful, give me a thumbs up. Always appreciate that. Sweet
6:55
This is the ESR-Chi2 15-watt MagSafe Car Mount Charger. It is $35.99, currently minus $5, dropping it down to an entirely reasonable $30.99 at Amazon.com
7:12
I need to get this back on my dash because I need to take off and I want to charge my phone
7:17
So, I hope to catch you in my next video
