hey there fellow hungry travelers I'm here with Walter's World and today we're in Granada Spain
0:09
and today I want to talk about a few of the traditional foods and drinks you can have when
0:13
you're here in Granada and I'm going to be honest with you some of these I don't know if I really
0:18
recommend you to get there might be better alternatives than some of the local specialties
0:23
And one is the remujón. And the remujón from Cordoba is, I'd like to call it an orange and codfish salad
0:31
Basically what it is, it's oranges and codfish and eggs and spring onions and bad breath for the rest of the day
0:39
But it is oddly refreshing in a way. And it's not as bad, as nasty as it sounds when you describe it or look at it
0:47
It's like, ah, so you can eat a bit of it. That's for sure. So here's the orange and codfish salad I was talking about
0:53
It is an acquired taste, I'm sure of that. It's not bad, though
0:57
I was expecting something much more different, but it actually kind of works together
1:01
So it's not actually bad at all. So, yeah, you can try it. So another local food you can have is the habas con jam which is beans with ham And so what we have is they have cooked beans right And then we have chopped up small pieces you have ham in there it actually not bad like that what i actually kind of enjoyed when i was here so you can have that one it not
1:19
as well i will say the fried one i got it looked a little scary when i got it like what am i eating
1:25
here but actually it wasn't too bad so these are the ham and beans i was talking about they don't
1:30
look very appealing but they actually are pretty good so you can get these when you're here too
1:34
it's kind of especially of granada hence why i have it only don't forget to eat when you're here
1:38
but if you don't like it it doesn't appeal to you because it looks kind of funky don't feel bad there's a lot of other options when you're here now if you're looking
1:47
for more of a mixed grill plate the best way i kind of describe it as the al purrino which is
1:54
basically you'll have like a chorizo you have sausage you'll have ham you have black sausage
1:59
as well you have you know egg you'll have potatoes and stuff so it's kind of like a
2:03
more fulfilling meal. I know my dad liked that when he was here because it reminded me of his food he had when he was a kid on the farm. So there is that
2:10
That was a popular one I saw a lot of locals getting. I definitely saw people getting that more often than the ham and beans version or the orange and codfish
2:17
salad Now we here in Spain so obviously ham is a huge thing here but if you do come here the jamon trevelez that is like the ham from kind of by the street it not from granada itself it from by there but it a cured hand cured salted ham it really good if you look on the list it be the one that like expensive like the jamon iberico
2:34
that's like going to be the price one but it's worth trying like that's a really good one to
2:38
have from here now the jamon is really good like so good i don't think you're going to get it in
2:42
your free tapas because that's another thing you need to know when you come to granada they have
2:45
a history of giving away free tapas with every drink you get. Now, it's not every drink these
2:50
days, but a lot of places you go, they'll give you a little, you know, a little snack to go with
2:54
each drink you have. And for anyone that's gone around Spain, you realize if you're in Madrid or
2:58
Barcelona or Sevilla, they're not giving out those free tapas like they used to. Maybe like an olive
3:02
here or there, but here they actually give like some croquetas or some patatas or some homo
3:06
Like, hey, this is like legit stuff. So when you're going out for drinks, don't forget to get
3:11
some of those free tapas that are there. Now, occasionally they might want you to order some
3:14
things. So there is that it's not like an endless supply of tapas, but it's something you should think about because
3:19
whether you're getting the meatballs, which are really good here or the croquetas, those are two ones I really enjoy. And
3:24
since they're free, it's quite nice. Now goat cheese is a very popular option. We know the manchego cheese you have here in
3:30
Spain, but here you have the Montefrieno, or the queso Montefrieno which is a goat cheese you can get here as well It from a local a local village you can get that really nice when you walk around town you notice there actually quite a few Moroccan restaurants now this isn like history from the moors here with alhambra no the Moroccan
3:47
restaurants is from the tourists that have come here that's kind of like come with the tours but
3:50
what's good is you have really good Moroccan restaurants so you have the tangines you know they cook it in the clay pots that's really good also you get really good bakeries well they're
3:58
here so you get those the puff pastry with honey and nut pastries you want to get those when you're
4:02
there oh but if you want something that's like really from granada you want to get the piononos
4:06
which is basically a jelly roll but it's like with cream in it that's like a really traditional
4:10
thing from around here and if you've been traveling around spain you probably know the most popular
4:14
export for consumption from granada that is the alhambra beer yes there's an alhambra beer that
4:20
you can buy when you're here that's the local brew you want to have you can have it all over the country i can get internationally as i've seen in some places so that's a nice local beer you're
4:28
want to have when you're here to enjoy those tapas, the free tapas or the one you pay for
4:32
But I just want to give a quick little video about some of the snacks and foods you can have
4:36
when you are here in Corboa. And they do have the traditional Spanish restaurants. So you want to
4:40
get your traditional Spanish food and tapas. You have that as well. So if codfish and oranges aren't
4:45
your jam, you'll be okay. Anyway, I'll talk to you later. I'll say bye or hasta luego from here in Granada
