Hey there fellow hungry travelers, Mark here with Walter's World, and today we're in Jorona in Spain
0:04
And today we're going to talk about some of the things you should have when you come here to Jorona
0:08
And we've got videos on eating food in Catalonia and Barcelona and Spain in general
0:12
but I wanted to focus on some stuff that's really special for here in Jorona, okay
0:16
So the first thing I really need to mention is actually salted anchovies, because that's something that's very famous for here
0:21
And if you don't like anchovies, you should at least try them when you're here, and you'll see they're served at a lot of restaurants
0:26
You might have it just in sardines by themselves. It might be in a salad, you might put it on some of your bread
0:31
But the salted sardines, it's something you should have when you're here, even if you're not a fan
0:35
Have it and then move on. Because not everybody does like them, okay? If you're looking for something that's traditional from here that's really sweet, though, and you don't want the salty side, you have chuchos
0:45
And chuchos, it's basically choux pastry, right? You know, ever watch Great British Bake Off
0:49
They have the choux pastry. Yes, it's fried dough stuffed with cream
0:54
And then they give it to you when they're still warm. They roll it in sugar. Oh, my God. They are so good
0:58
You'll see them in the bakeries around town. You want to have some of those, okay? I mean, I bought a few and you could buy like one at a time
1:04
I bought four because you know why not So you walking around Girona don forget to get the sweet treat Chuchos And basically what it is it just you know it fried dough with cream inside
1:16
You know, like a choux pastry? You know, for those great British Bake Off fans
1:20
This is what they have here. You get them when they're hot. They roll them in some sugar before they give them to you
1:26
Well worth getting when you're walking around. And what's nice, you don't have to buy like 10 of them at a time
1:30
You can literally just buy one and do that. So you've got options. I got four
1:38
Now, keeping with our sweet theme, which is going to seem weird when I tell you what this next one is
1:43
but it is butifara. But it's butifara from here in Girona because they actually have sweet butifara
1:48
If you're not sure what butifara is, that is the local sausage around here. And you have a nice grilled one
1:53
And it's very different. I mean, it's very different. Like in Barcelona, have it like in a bocadillo or you have with the white beans
1:58
You know, there's that. But then you have it here and it's actually sweet. It has sugar in it
2:02
It's a different flavor. And you'll see places serve it around here. they might serve it to you like I had the place I had it
2:07
It had butifar and just, you know, a thing of water and you're good to go
2:11
I mean, it's just something you can have on the go if you want a little bit more, but that's something that is really from here
2:16
And sometimes you see on the menu Escalivada which is it actually all over Catalonia Another important don I think I need to mention about traditional Spanish food when you come to Girona don think their Spanish omelet has gone off
2:28
Because you notice like at your hotel and some of the restaurants, they'll have the Spanish omelet, you know
2:33
and you'll be like, the tortilla espanola looks like it's turned a bit green
2:37
Don't worry about that. They actually put vegetables in their Spanish omelets here
2:41
So that's why it has that green tinge, okay? So don't think it's like mold or anything
2:45
It just, that's how they eat it here. Because I know when I saw it this morning for breakfast, I'm like, is that okay
2:51
So just have a heads up for it. Now, you know, I talked about the white beans with the Boutifar sausage, like in Barcelona
2:57
But you have to realize in this region, beans are quite popular. So you actually will see like a bean soup that you'll have when you're here, which is called Chateau, which is, you know, basically it's a veggie soup with beans
3:07
You know, that's what you're basically looking at there. You also might have beans with garlic, which is Fusols et Naps
3:13
So you have that. I'm not a big bean person, so they didn't really kind of thrill me with it, but I did
3:19
see a number of people ordering when I was here, and that is something that's very traditional from here
3:23
And when you're going around, you're going to notice people just sitting out having beers and tapas and things
3:26
That's very normal when you're here. You see probably two of the more popular kind of regional things here You see vermouth pop up a lot but also there a ratafia which is a brandy that basically you put it like fruits and spices and stuff into the
3:39
brandy and let it soak and get a kind of a more robust flavor you might see that some places too
3:43
so if you want to look at that and when you come here there's a number of restaurants because
3:47
girona is a very popular day trip from barcelona so there are tons of places for you eat whether
3:51
you want fast casual you want to sit down for a while you want to enjoy a big spanish meal you
3:55
want something local, something Catalan, something from Girona. You do have tons and tons of options
4:00
And when you're walking around the historic part is very, very tight. So you might notice that the restaurants are very, very tight as well
4:06
If you go on La Rambla, which is out by the river, basically, there's a little bit more space if you want to have a little more space when you want to eat
4:12
But it is really nice. And I'll be honest with you, if you're going to be coming here, you can look at
4:16
spending the night, you'll probably have a more enjoyable eating experience, because the lunch will be packed with the tourists
4:21
But then in the evening, it really opens up. And so basically all the restaurants are open to you
4:25
And they have one of the best restaurants in the world here, you know, and some really fantastic options
4:30
So I just want to give you some ideas of things you can have when you do come here to Girona
4:34
And yes, all the things from Batatas Bravas and Croquetas, they had that here too
4:38
But I just want to give you stuff that's more special from here in Girona. I'll talk to you later. Bye from here in Girona
