Laura and Zion met on a podcast where like-minded people debate the roles within society and relationships. They were immediately drawn to each other due to their shared views on gender roles within relationships and marriages. They got engaged within a week and married within three months of meeting. The couple have now been together for 10 months and live together in Yorkshire, England. Laura and Zion believe that a woman's role is to be submissive and serve a man. While Laura handles all the household chores such as cooking, cleaning, baking and keeping herself pretty and presentable, Zion takes on all of the financial stress and ‘leads’ the house. Laura says, “People think it’s degrading to take care of a man,” and some have challenged the couple's beliefs using feminist views and stances on equality. In this episode of Love Don't Judge we ask the public about their views on 'Trad marriage'.

I submit to my husband and my job is to keep him happy
0:03
Women have become lazy. They don't want to make any effort. They think it's freedom to say, I'm not going to cook for a man
0:08
I'm not going to clean, I'm not going to do anything, but it's purely laziness. Women are actually not designed to have to make decisions
0:15
This is the biggest load of internalised misogyny, BS. Are your husband's finances safe with you
0:21
Women were created for a man. A woman without a man to take care of
0:26
she becomes very empty, very soulless, very bitter. When I hear the term trot wife, what comes to my mind is scary and probably a void
0:36
I'm Zion Zachary. I'm Laura and I am a proud wife of Mr. Zion Zachary
0:43
And I lead the household. My wife knows what her role is. Your husband cannot step up until you step down
0:51
I enjoy traditional marriage with traditional masculine and feminine roles. I think online is a parallel universe
0:59
What you see on social media a lot is women crying into the phone, telling you what a victim they are in their life
1:06
We do get quite a bit of negative comments. What we need to do as men is protect our wives and make sure we don't take our wives to the battle
1:13
Someone says it took 20 seconds of listening to you for me to throw up in my mouth a little
1:19
This is why I'm an atheist. This religious psychosis is packaged so beautifully
1:24
the high tier wife is always thinking about the bigger picture she's thinking about how to help
1:31
her husband get to the top of the mountain this is the biggest load of internalized misogyny bs
1:37
are your husband's finances safe with you women have been lied to the women that were less willing
1:43
to submit were more emotionally reactive they think that they will find fulfillment in building
1:50
a career or trying to be some kind of boss babe. Everything that women do, it should be an expression of love
1:56
What the women have been taught is, you're the most important thing. Always put yourself first
2:01
Many men are married to women, but they're not married to wives. This is so sad
2:05
I hope you recover from the Stockholm syndrome soon That when you fall in love with your capture That like Beauty and the Beast fairytale Yeah And I fallen in love with you Yeah But I have though I have captured you
2:15
You captured my heart. If this isn't satire, the algorithm needs a talking to
2:22
When I hear the term trot wife or trot husband, what comes to my mind is
2:26
scary and probably a void. My husband is the lord of this house
2:32
Should a woman serve her husband? In my opinion, not at all. No, I don't think a woman should serve her husband
2:39
It should be that they serve each other in whatever way works for them
2:43
I don't think it's a woman's job to do the household chores. It shouldn't be more on one person than the other to be pulling their weight
2:50
Me looking nice inspires him and he deserves to look at something beautiful
2:55
Would I expect my wife to look perfect to me? No, no
2:58
We have good days, we have bad days, we have late nights, we have early mornings. It's not the role of a woman to always have to look perfect for their husband
3:05
I think that's ridiculous. If you want to look perfect for your husband, that's on you
3:11
That's great, good for you. You shouldn't have to. The trad wife and trad husband should probably be left in the past
3:17
As long as you're happy in the house that you're in, then you're doing the right thing. We've just got to keep doing what we're doing
3:21
When people post negative comments, we just keep going because we know what we're doing is for the greater good
3:26
I think women have already set themselves back. I don't think the way I live is making them set themselves back any further
3:30
I think they've already done that on their own. My job is always looking pretty and always keeping the house clean
3:37
I am a trad wife, but I'm more than a trad wife
3:41
I felt like I had met a female version of myself. She slid into my DMs and then it kicked off this whole thing
3:48
I was a bit despondent and thinking that maybe I'd be waiting forever
3:52
In this modern world, this feminist world, will I ever find a woman that would agree with my way of thinking
3:58
my way of thinking and I found her. Tread wife, I think, refers back to the traditional
4:04
what we've always done, male role, female role. My best friend rang me and I said to her
4:09
I was like, that's my husband, I'm gonna marry this man. And she was like, what
4:13
I said, that is the man I will marry. So September we met December was our wedding Yeah just like that I don like modern fashion I think it vulgar
4:27
I do think that it's important that we make an effort because it's not that we compete with other women
4:33
It's a respect. You know, how we dress shows what we think our husband deserves
4:39
Most women dress for the world, but not their husband. Ooh. Do you like it
4:48
Oh, you look pretty. Do I look pretty? Oh. I think it is important for a woman to present herself well
4:56
If somehow there was a hypothetical scenario where it was, I'd just be like, honey, that's revealing this
5:01
And do you mind just changing into something else more appropriate? She doesn't have anything like that in the wardrobe anyway
5:07
I'll tell her whether it's a yes, whether it's a no. Trust me, you guys are getting a tame version of me
5:12
I'm usually, every few seconds, just all over her face. I think it's important for me to present myself well and wear things that are respectable
5:20
but it's not necessarily onerous on me to do that. Women have become lazy, but they don't want to make any effort
5:27
They think it's freedom to say, I'm not going to cook for a man, I'm not going to clean, I'm not going to do anything, but it's purely laziness
5:32
She probably doesn't know how to do it, for a start. Am I pretty? Oh, you're not pretty, you're beautiful
5:38
My favourite thing is just your all out surrender, your full devotion and your servant heart
5:47
Yeah. I always make sure that there is food on the table
5:53
I've got to feed my man. I do everything in the house
5:57
So I do the laundry, the cooking, the cleaning, most of the shopping, everything in the house I do
6:03
People think that the way that I live is degrading to women, but I just love taking care of my men
6:08
Diane doesn't love cooking, and I do, so I usually do it all
6:12
I can cook to survive, but not to enjoy. So it makes sense that I just stay in my lane
6:18
and he stays in his lane, and we don't cross over. I would say I have always held some level of traditional values
6:24
because I observed an element of it growing up My mum was a stay wife and my dad was the provider so I grew up seeing that and I naturally embodied it Women were created for a man So a woman without a man to take care
6:38
of, she becomes very empty, very soulless, very bitter. So my role as the man, fundamentally, I'm the leader of the family
6:50
I'm technically the CEO and you're my, you could say, personal assistant
6:55
Yeah, I'm in submission. She only works for me, basically. Is the yoke how you like it
7:00
Yeah, we haven't had poetry in a while, so... I know. I'm the responsible person who is responsible for building
7:06
providing, to make sure that that vision is fulfilled, to lead my wife, love my wife, love my children
7:12
I don't ever want to see him with, like, a broom in his hand or anything. I don't want to ever see him. I just don't like it
7:17
I think it's upset when I pick up the heaver and try to do something. Please put that down
7:21
will think that I have rules or that I wake up in the morning and I'm at your best sightseeing
7:26
Arise, woman. You know, fix me some food. No, it doesn't work like that
7:30
She's already living that lifestyle herself. We both want to do this. So we both thrive in it and we both have a happy life because of it
7:42
When you have someone in your life that you really care about and you're going to build a family
7:47
it changes you to become the best version of yourself. And that's what's happened to me. Like Zion's taken so many things off my shoulders
7:52
that I don't have to worry about certain things. So it means that I've actually been able to discover
7:56
who I am as a woman. So what would we say to people who judge us
8:00
Choose how you want to live your life carefully. A lot of people are just sheep. They just follow along and they think that
8:06
you know, like especially feminists, they think they're being rebellious about being a feminist, but they're not. They're just doing what everyone else is doing
8:11
It's the opposite of being rebellious. Being rebellious is actually... What we do. Yeah, exactly
8:16
I didn't know I could enjoy my life so much and I could be happy. I didn't know I could do that and it's beautiful
