Oct 11, 2024
Thousands of ANC Youth League (ANCYL) supporters took to the streets of Johannesburg today, marching to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) to deliver a memorandum of demands. The protest, marked by a sea of white-dressed participants, called for urgent action on pressing socio-economic issues affecting South Africa’s youth.
Among their key demands are immediate actions to address unemployment, create an inclusive economy, and reduce poverty and inequality. The protesters emphasized the significant challenges facing South Africa's youth, such as the scarcity of job opportunities and ongoing economic exclusion.
Addressing the marchers, ANCYL President Collen Malatji said, "The youth of this country can no longer be spectators in the economy. We demand opportunities, not just promises. The time for action is now." He urged both the private sector and government to collaborate in creating sustainable solutions to the youth unemployment crisis.
The memorandum delivered to the JSE calls for structural reforms to ensure that young people have access to economic opportunities, emphasizing the need for policies that drive job creation and economic inclusivity.
