Jacob, I'll start with you
0:01
Were you surprised that Samco signed in Nashville of all places than the others
0:06
We'll talk more about them because they did a lot on day one. Yeah, I've seen a lot of jersey swaps with Samco swearing in the Predators
0:13
jerseys and it just looks so wrong to not see him in a Tampa jersey. So I was surprised he went anywhere
0:19
Like at this point, I wasn't surprised that he left Tampa. I'm just surprised that he signed somewhere else
0:23
And it just feels so wrong. I think it's a great fit, especially if he's going to be on the wing, play on the
0:29
second line, probably with Mercer. So if they want to keep their top line together from last year
0:33
So I'm not surprised. I think it's a great fit. Uh, the contract, I think it's a perfect deal, maybe a little bit high on the AAV
0:41
but it's really hard to complain with Samco four years and $8 million
0:47
Yeah, great. I mean, the number is actually really good for a lot of teams that probably
0:51
would put that for sure for Samco, even though he is 34 years old, but
0:56
he scored 40 goals last season. So it's not like he's slowing down
1:00
Uh, Mike, what did you think about the Samco going to Nashville? Yeah, I think, I mean, of course there's the context of what the predators did
1:08
and all the moves they made, which I guess we'll dive more into, which probably
1:13
if you take Samco in a vacuum, you're like, I don't know, the AAV is high
1:17
I, I like the Samco sign. I thought any team that signed Samco was going to get more
1:22
value off the ice than on it. Because when you look at Samco, obviously his production's still, I mean
1:29
he's still producing at a high level and he's still putting up great numbers
1:33
and just playing great on, in the offensive zone and overall he's playing great
1:39
But the thing that I was really impressed with last year with the Lightning is he's one of those players that, especially in those dog days
1:47
early in the season, when you could tell Lightning weren't doing well and they
1:51
weren't going to make, and it looked like they weren't gonna make the playoffs at times, and you have those guys at like Samco, really those like locker room
1:58
presence players that just show up every day and know, hey, it's a long season. We're going to be there eventually
2:03
But those guys, cliche Levi example, he's one of those guys that even if the
2:08
predators don't get that same production, which I mean, they don't have Kucherov
2:13
So I mean, he's not gonna, he's not going to get the same sort of scoring chance, the same opportunities he has
2:18
I mean, the predators have some skill, but still it's, it's that showing up
2:23
every day, like being that veteran for young players that they know what it
2:27
takes to, he knows what it takes to make it through the regular season, through
2:31
that grind and then the playoffs. So that's, that's also part of the value
2:36
The AAV is not so much, but yeah, I still like this. Even at 33, I'm like, give him the four years
2:41
Yeah, that's fine
