Hi everyone, it's Karen from the Jodie Grandmore
0:07
Welcome back to my channel. If you're new here, welcome. I hope you're doing well
0:12
Today I've got a favourites and fails video for you. So I've got about 10 things that are were my favourites in September and I've got two fails
0:22
that were fails in September. So I'll just go through them and show you what they are
0:29
So the first couple are both TV series, and these were definitely my favourites in September
0:38
And the first one was a drama series called The Sixth Commandment, and it is on BBC, I Player
0:47
And there's four episodes, and it stars Timothy Spall from Affie to Seine and Anne Reid from Dinner Ladies
0:57
and this was based on a true life story about Timothy Spall's character who was a lecturer
1:06
and he meets this young student. He's about 21, something like that, the student
1:15
And the student says he fell in love with Timothy Spall's character
1:23
Timothy Spall has been a single his whole life, Turns out he was actually gay
1:29
And the student, I can't remember the name of the guy, says he's fell in love with them and he goes to live with them
1:38
And it all ends rather badly with the death of Timothy Spall's character
1:45
And then the student moves on to this other elderly lady, played by Anne Reid
1:50
pretends he's fell in love with her. And kind of the same thing happens
1:55
And you can see a pattern foreman. And it's a really intense drama
2:01
And it's quite shocking. I mean, it's, it's, I don't think it's right to say it was enjoyable
2:07
but it was, it was, I enjoyed watching it. Um, he was a nasty piece of work, this, this young student guy
2:16
Really nasty piece of work to, to take these two elderly people in the way he did
2:22
Um, just, just horrible. But I do highly recommend. You watch it, the, you know, the quick paste, they're easy to watch
2:32
And it's a story that people should know about. Definitely a one to watch
2:38
The second series that I've enjoyed is also on BBC Eye Player
2:43
and this was called The Woman in the Wall. And this is based in Ireland
2:50
Now, I can't remember the name of the main character in it
2:54
the main woman. I can't even remember the character's name. God, my memory is terrible
3:00
But the main character is the actor who played, or actress who played the main one in the affair
3:09
And she was also in Luther. I really can't remember our name
3:13
But anyway, it is about her in a group of women. They're probably in the 40s, 50s, 60s now
3:21
And they had been taken to a context. when there were young girls, they were unmarried pregnant women
3:31
And they all had babies when they were in this convent. And the babies were taken away from them
3:36
And they never found out what happened to them. In the series, it's a six-part series
3:42
And it's all about this detective who is called in to find out who killed this priest
3:50
that was found dead at the bottom of East Stairs. and the thing all unravels, and it's all to do with these babies that went missing from the convent
4:04
I think it was in the 80s. It must have been in the 60s, 70s and 80s because some of the women were a lot older
4:11
And it's just a, again, probably enjoyable is not the right word, but it was a really gripping series
4:19
I don't think the actual story that the told is based on a true story
4:24
but I know the background of the young unmarried woman being taken to young pregnant unmarried women being taken to convents
4:32
That was definitely true and did happen back in Ireland. I remember watching something called the Magdalene Laundries
4:40
It was a film back in the 80s and that was about a very similar thing
4:44
Very gripping story, horrifying to think this happened. But yeah, we binge watched that series very good
4:53
to highly recommend that, the woman in the wall on BBC Eye Player, and I'm really sorry, I
4:58
can't remember any of the names. The next couple of things I wanted to talk about are foody
5:03
items, and the first one is from Aldi, and it is sauce shop, Carolina mustard barbecue sauce
5:13
This is absolutely gorgeous You can use it to if you eat meat you can use it to put on meat one It cooking I suppose you could put it on plant based products as well And you can also use it as a condiment so I used it like you would put on tomato sauce
5:31
or brown sauce or something like that. It is really, really nice
5:35
It has got a bit of a spice to it. It's not too hot because I don't like really hot stuff
5:40
but this is just, it's got a lovely taste. We bought a bottle, and then we liked it
5:46
So I went back and bought another two bottles. before they run out because they do run out quick ogy
5:53
And this can be used within 12 weeks of opening, which I thought was really good
5:56
because a lot of sources you've got to use within six weeks. So 12 weeks I thought was really good and it is vegan
6:04
So I highly recommend you go and buy some of that if you think that you might like it
6:09
The next foodie item isn't a specific product I've bought, but it's something we have ate quite a lot over the last few weeks
6:17
and that is cassidias. Now, I was just introduced to Casillas not that long ago, a couple of months ago probably
6:23
because I was looking for a low carb things. And we were using low carb wraps to put cheese and mushrooms and spring onions and spinach in
6:33
and then you fold them over. And we have it with smashed avocado, like an avocado salsa kind of thing
6:40
But you could put anything in them, really. Warren's put pepperoni in his, he's put peppers in them
6:47
So you can basically put anything in them. Highly recommend Casillas if you haven't tried them
6:53
I leave the link below to the video I watched on how to make them
6:59
I mean, they are simple, but I needed to watch a video on how to make them
7:03
So if you want to go and have a look, you can click the link in the description box below. So the next two things are a couple of books and I read these on holiday
7:12
I did read them quite quickly. Paperbacks, real page turners. and the first one is called wrong place, wrong time by Jillian McAllister
7:24
And this one, this one starts where there's a man and woman in a house, they're married
7:32
and they're waiting for their 18-year-old son to come home, and he's got a curfew of 1 o'clock in the morning
7:39
And this day happens to be the days that the clocks go back
7:43
So she's watching out the window for him coming in, and she sees him coming down the street
7:49
and then she sees she sees him stab somebody and she runs outside
7:52
and the man's, you know, blood's everywhere and the man dies and her arms and our son is taken
8:00
to the police station where they're then sent home and the mom and dad are sent home
8:05
and she wakes up in the morning and something's different. It feels different
8:12
and it's actually gone back to the people. previous day. She's gone back in time to the previous day and none of this has happened yet
8:22
I found it a really clever story the way they put this together. So every day when she wakes up
8:29
she's going back in time and the time jumps are maybe a day in the past. Sometimes she'll go
8:35
two weeks in the past. Sometimes she'll go five months in the past. And she keeps finding little
8:42
bits out every time on why this happened. And it was a very satisfying ending. I found it really clever
8:53
I thought the characters were good. I thought the storyline was good. And I definitely recommend it
8:59
So wrong place, wrong time by Julian McAllister. And I would definitely read more of her books
9:05
The next book was also a paperback. And this is called The Woman Who Lies
9:12
and it's by Claire Douglas. I have a feeling I've read one of Claire Douglas's books before
9:19
I think she wrote a book called The Couplet Number Nine, which I found quite good
9:24
And this one was also good. And this is about a woman who is, she's on our second marriage
9:32
She's got two children, one, two of our first husband, one to our second husband
9:36
And she's an author of a detective series of books. and she's on the bus one day
9:44
and the bus stops and it's held up because there's been an incident
9:51
further down the road it's somebody found a bag or something and they didn't know whether it was a bomb
9:57
and it turns out that it was that incident is in one of the plots
10:03
of her books and she thinks that's a bit odd but you know she doesn't think anything of it
10:09
And then there's a few more things happen where they're also from her books
10:15
And somebody's obviously targeting that. And then she's in the middle of writing a last book
10:24
And something happens that is in that book. And she knows there's only a handful of people have read a new book because it's not out yet
10:33
And so she knows that the person who's doing this is somebody who knows her
10:39
and it goes from there. She suspects everybody And again I found it a really good story real page Turner enjoyed the characters thought they were all really well written good storyline I don think I was as satisfied with
10:56
this ending as I was with wrong place wrong time but it was a good ending so highly recommend
11:05
that as well to the woman who lied by Claire Douglas the next thing is something I bought that
11:11
is a thing and this is shower curtain weight and I'm going to put a picture here because they're
11:16
obviously on my shower curtain. Now we have a shower over our bath and I don't have a shower door
11:23
I've got a shower curtain on the bath and I have had shower curtains in the past that have
11:29
weights on the bottom so it holds it down. It's not flapping everywhere but we haven't had that for
11:34
quite a while and our shower curtain was getting right on our nerves. So you'd be in the shower and
11:38
the, you know, the shower curtains flap it up and you're trying to get washed and it was just a pain
11:43
So I found these shower curtain weights on Amazon and I can't believe I've lived without them really
11:50
And it is the two halves. It looks like a globe and the cum part and you put one on each side of the
11:59
of the shower curtain. It's three in a pack and I found that was enough for our shower curtain and I just
12:05
you know, spaced them out along the bottom. And it just hoped. the shower curtain down. Simple, I know, and probably I'm a bit late to the party with this
12:14
but highly recommend those if you're looking for something to wear your shower curtain down
12:19
Shower curtain weights, brilliant invention. The next few things are beauty products
12:25
and the first one I wanted to mention, which is a real favourite, is the Lucura
12:31
pineapple, microderm abrasion, scrub, facial scrub. I think it's a facial scrub. Actually, it does
12:38
and say a facial scrub, but I've used it on my face. I wonder if this is a body scrub
12:46
I've used this on my face. I haven't used it on my body. That's interesting
12:52
If anybody, if anybody's used this, tell us if it's via face or for your body
12:58
because I've used it on my face. Anyway, it says, massage on a wet skin and circular motions
13:04
rinse thoroughly used two, three times a week. It's got a big of face scrub, but this is really, really good
13:13
It comes in a 100 mil tube. It doesn't have a very strong smell, but it is a creamy scrub
13:27
and it is a fine scrub, but you can definitely feel it exfoliating your skin
13:33
I used it this morning and my skin just feels really, really good
13:37
I had a glow before I put my makeup on. My skin felt so soft
13:43
So yeah, I highly recommend that, but check if it's for your skin for your body or for your face
13:51
I'm wondering now, it's got to be for your face. I'm sure that's for your face
13:57
but I highly recommend it anyway. That was really good. The other thing that I bought from Aldi
14:04
that I've really been enjoying is the Lecule. lip kits. I got two. I think this is a dupe of the Kylie Minogue ones. I got the
14:15
just peachy one and I got the nearly nude one. They didn't look much difference in the colours
14:24
on the box and it is in each box there is a matte liquid lipstick and a lip liner which I
14:32
thought that was a really good idea. I'm sure these were only four 99 each. So it comes with
14:37
the lip liner, which is a, like a crayon lip liner, and it's a nice creamy consistency. It glides on
14:48
And the actual liquid lip stick, lipstick, whatever, is a door foot applicator. It is matte
14:59
which I would have preferred if it was a gloss, because I'm not that keen on matte lipstick
15:03
I have got it on today. It does stay on a while. I have to say, I've had cups of coffee with it on and it stayed on
15:12
But yeah, I really like that. I got, like I say, I got both of them and I've enjoyed both of those colours
15:20
Really highly recommend those if they've still got them in stock. And of course, I can't mention favourites without mention this Lucura eye shadow palette
15:32
Absolutely, I can't say how much I love this palette. actually I think this is the darker one I've picked up by Mystique
15:40
Yeah, it is. It looks like that, but the lighter colours. I haven't used this one as much
15:47
I put a picture in of the other one, but I'm wearing it today, and it has been my go-to eyeshadow palette
15:54
since I bought it about two months ago now. Absolutely love it
15:59
It was the only palette I took on holiday with us, and I just really, really love the colours
16:05
So, yeah, the look. Queura quad eye shadow palette Like I say I gonna put it in here the actual one I got because this is the darker one but really loved that I did have one of the beauty product that I bought this
16:19
month that I've been enjoying and this is the up circle shampoo cream and it is coconut and grapefruit
16:26
oil in it it smells absolutely gorgeous that is just so it's so fresh and it smells
16:37
like a spa. It's creamy and you only need, you only need about that much for my length of hair
16:47
for shampoo. So that would last year months. It costs 20 pound for the tub, but it lasts forever
16:56
Well, not forever, but you know what I mean? It lasts a long time. You only need a small amount
17:01
Rub it on your hair and it really lathers up. Lots and lots of lather, leather
17:07
whichever way you want to pronounce it. But I do highly recommend that
17:11
It leaves your hair squeaky clean. I don't know if they've got a condition that
17:16
I need to have a look because I think this is quite a new thing from Upsircle
17:20
I have had Upsircle products before and I do really like them
17:24
So I'll leave the link to this one below. Definitely recommend that
17:30
So the two fails I've had in the last month. One was, I can't find the actual product
17:36
I found the box. And it is the Lucura collagen lip oils in a little tube
17:41
I don't know where I've put it. If I find it, I'll put a picture in. And it says collagen, share butter and vitamin A
17:51
And you kind of roll it onto your lips as like a lip balm kind of thing
17:55
I found this really sticky. I quite like the smell of it
18:01
It smells like, well, it's got share butter in, so it did smell like chocolate. It goes on nicely
18:06
but it doesn't really dry very well so it's still quite sticky on your lip
18:12
so I felt like I was constantly wanting to rub it off
18:16
so I don't recommend that if anybody else has tried that let us know what you think
18:22
I just couldn't get away with it which is a shame because I did like the smell the other thing that was
18:28
the other thing that was a fail this month was a book and I read this in an audio book
18:35
I read it on Audible, so I actually listened to it. And it's called Possession by Peter James
18:41
Now, I have read two books by Peter James before. I think it was called The House on Cold Hill and the sequel to that
18:48
And I really enjoyed them. And this one, Possession, sounded like it was on the same lines
18:55
It was about a, it starts where a man of, I think he's about 20, something like that
19:01
21. He's at university and he's gone abroad with his. friends on a holiday I'm assuming and they're driving home. You know there's something a bit
19:10
funny about him because he's left a girl and he comes out of our room and she's covered in
19:16
bruises apparently and he gets into his car with these three friends and there's a car crash
19:21
and they're all, I think three of them are killed and one of them lives. And then it flashes to
19:27
the mother and have the funeral and everything and she starts to
19:35
see strange things. There's, there's odd things going on in a house and there's mediums
19:42
coming to see her and they say our son is, you know, wanting to come back. And it goes on like that
19:50
And I enjoyed the beginning and I thought it was really going to, you know, get to the, the, the
19:56
the nub of what the sun had been up to and, you know, what had happened. And it really, it didn't
20:03
really. It was, it dragged on. I think they could have done the book and half the time
20:11
The ending was really not satisfying. And I just, I found it confusing. I don't know whether that's
20:18
because I had, I listened to it rather than read it. But I did find it confusing places
20:24
I felt like I wanted to go back. But that's difficult to do with an audio book, whereas if you've got a
20:30
book. You can just turn the pages back. But I did feel like I wanted to go back a couple of times
20:35
because I wasn't quite sure where we were at. So yeah, unfortunately, I don't recommend possession
20:42
by Peter James, which is a shame. If anybody knows of any other kind of spooky kind of supernatural
20:48
kind of books, let us know in the comments below because I really do like that kind of book in October
20:53
It would be a great month to read them. So those are all my favourites and fails today. I hope you found
21:00
interesting. I do have some videos coming up of my holiday in Dubrovnik. I've got like a room
21:08
tour and a tour of the resort that was stayed in and a tour of Dubrovnik, old town with the city
21:15
walls that you can walk, a tukua, a tour of Loughram Island, really enjoyed Dubrovnik, absolutely
21:24
beautiful place. So those videos will be coming up very soon. like I say, I hope you enjoyed that video. That's all I've got for you to do. So bye for now
