0:07
that's now five wi straight uh what's
0:09
clicking for you guys do you feel from
0:11
your perspective uh I just think our
0:13
overall intent in the game um we're
0:16
doing a good job of kind of just
0:17
sticking to the game plan but at the
0:18
same time playing together I think we
0:20
had another game of a lot of guys in
0:21
double figures so I think that's just
0:23
shows about uh the contribution from
0:25
everyone and um I just think that's
0:27
what's going on obviously you want to
0:29
have earlier in the year but I think
0:31
it's clicking at the right time this is
0:32
lubin's fourth game in a row with double
0:35
figures what do you feel like he working
0:36
for him uh he's making his presence me
0:38
felt I think he's doing a good job and
0:39
we're doing a good job of kind of just
0:40
feed him in the post but then also um
0:42
he's being a forest down low in the pain
0:44
when um the ball goes up in the air uh
0:46
he's you know offensively and
0:47
defensively so he's able to kind of just
0:49
get easy points right that but at the
0:51
same time um we're making him um
0:53
available and uh I'm just proud of him
0:55
and just the four game stretch he's been
0:57
putting through so yeah the Tom from of
0:58
the best ball movement You' seen from
1:01
yeah um there was one possession I think
1:02
the ball went from like uh one side of
1:04
the court to the other side of the court
1:05
and then been finished off for the layup
1:07
so I just think that shows like the
1:08
connectivity that um kind of just like
1:11
the past five games that we've been
1:12
playing with so yeah Hubert seemed kind
1:14
of fired up maybe Midway through the
1:16
first half and was there something you
1:18
guys fixed that he wanted you to fix
1:19
that kind of let you to allowed you to
1:21
coast and succeed the rest of the way um
1:23
our lack of energy and um discipline on
1:25
the defensive end wasn't there uh the
1:27
only reason why we were in the game is
1:28
cuz we was making shots under than that
1:30
our defense was atrocious so that's why
1:32
guy got on us in the first half um
1:35
because obviously like when we play
1:38
other teams and other games like that
1:40
could lead to bigger leads so uh we got
1:42
to do a better job of keeping that mind
1:43
St staying locked in at all
1:45
times you guys have been knocking it
1:46
down from three at a much higher rate I
1:48
don't know if you can explain how shots
1:49
you know go in don't go in but is there
1:51
anything I guess that's led to that
1:53
difference like the teams defending you
1:55
different like what do you think is um
1:57
for me or for the team oh for the team
1:59
um um I just think we're just we're
2:02
we're confident in our shots and um I
2:05
think all of us are capable of knocking
2:06
down threes and being able to shoot the
2:07
ball really well so I just think we're
2:09
confident in ourselves but then also
2:10
like when we're supportive of one
2:12
another so um we always encourage each
2:14
others to shoot the ball when they were
2:16
open um even if we missed a couple and I
2:18
just think that's what um winning team
2:20
does and that's what we're doing right
2:21
now how how have you seen that open
2:23
things up for you
2:24
guys uh everyone gets a share of wealth
2:27
I mean everyone has the ability to kind
2:30
of just uh contribute in different ways
2:33
and I feel like everyone is you know
2:34
allows them to play like themselves play
2:36
their game I think sometimes you know
2:38
basketball is a lot of mental so you
2:40
kind of just want to try to be too a
2:41
little bit um careful and cautious um
2:44
but I think at this time at this time of
2:46
uh the year right now I think we're all
2:47
playing free we're not really thinking
2:49
too much and we're just playing um you
2:51
know basketball to our second nature
2:52
yeah another double double I know Hees
2:55
have a beard you've heard the
2:57
comparisons you kind of feel that same
2:58
kind of vibe that's getting started here
3:00
with him
3:02
and the energy that he's put into this
3:04
team I mean I don't want to make any
3:05
comparisons with the two different
3:07
players um but I just think wit has been
3:10
just this stretch of games that he's
3:12
been putting together has been huge for
3:14
us and uh just the way he's been con
3:17
constantly just and consistently um
3:19
being able to shoot the ball really well
3:21
and then on the other end go ahead and
3:22
defend the bigger guys that's something
3:24
that we need U moving forward and I'm
3:26
just proud of him because you know
3:27
obviously he's been a rough Journey a
3:28
little bit um and the way he's able to
3:31
persevere stay solid and stay true to
3:33
himself just a testament to his work
3:35
ethic so um he's clicking at the right
3:38
time of year so yeah I think I was just
3:41
you know trying to find myself and know
3:42
find my identity my role and you know in
3:44
here it was pretty challenging but then
3:46
eventually I got comfortable and you
3:47
know have numerous you know talks with
3:49
Coach Davis just to figure out what he
3:50
wants from me just kind of do what you
3:52
know he expects me to do and so uh just
3:55
being comfortable and being at peaceful
3:56
and just playing with Max confidence and
3:58
effort and I also asked good think about
4:00
your nickname what you have back of your
4:02
jersey have you thought about it any I
4:05
know it it used to be VA I know I asked
4:08
a couple people they like the name VA as
4:11
a niame so I'm going choose
4:13
VA about the ball movement it com today
4:15
was some of the best ball movement of
4:17
the season and that's also seemingly
4:19
helping you create opportunities inside
4:21
can you talk about that yeah absolutely
4:23
like I said this the way we take care of
4:24
the ball and we share the ball you know
4:26
just trying to get a defense moving just
4:27
to find you know the open areas and
4:28
finding the guys at the right right time
4:30
uh it's definitely like opened up so
4:32
much on offensive end and you just see
4:34
it it's the way that we execute and
4:35
really take care of the ball and pass it
4:37
you mentioned having conversations with
4:39
Coach Davis has there been anything that
4:40
he said to you in particular that's
4:42
really resonated or helped you through
4:43
this stretch uh just really just his
4:45
belief in me you know he has faith in
4:47
you know things I'm capable of doing is
4:48
helping out this team even for myself
4:50
you know a be to have that coach install
4:53
like install like a confidence a
4:55
confidence of belief in a player you
4:56
know means a lot just know that you know
4:58
you have the green lights do whatever
5:00
you can do and just know that as long as
5:02
you get Max E you know meet the
5:04
standards then just go out there and
5:05
play and be fou when you scored all
5:07
those points at the beginning of the
5:08
second half was that was there a
5:10
particular play that you kept running
5:12
that they uh no not really I think it
5:15
was just the way that we moov the ball
5:16
you know the way we got out in
5:18
transition and you know the way that the
5:19
ball just kind of found me you know so
5:21
it was kind of just working like that
5:23
talk about overall you know you all had
5:26
such a Balan scoring attack you Leading
5:27
The Way with 19 but I think six of y'all
5:30
scoring in double figures just talk
5:33
about how everyone was able to
5:34
contribute in the scoring column whether
5:36
it be Ball moving or just the right
5:38
shots just kind of give me your take on
5:39
that how you were able to do I mean
5:41
everybody's talented to make shots you
5:43
know on this team you know and just
5:45
whenever the ball finds you at the right
5:46
moment you know we expect them to make
5:48
the shots and you know just to be able
5:49
to you know move the ball and trust them
5:51
to make those shots and find the right
5:53
guys they really helping us you know to
5:55
to have these you know double digit
5:56
games um so this is really just credit
5:58
to all of us trusting each other and
6:00
continue to move the ball um and just
6:02
find like an offensive flow and of
6:04
course what does it say about him as a
6:06
coach hiss he he actually he cares he he
6:09
want he cares about us and you know how
6:11
this this team and the program you know
6:14
competes and plays I think like that's
6:16
the biggest thing that's the biggest
6:17
thing that you can ask for from a coach
6:19
um I would say you know him not really
6:22
allowing us to be satisfied with the win
6:24
that like even though we did win like he
6:25
wants us he wants to he wants to
6:27
congratulate us but I think at the same
6:29
time he wants to be satisfied we still
6:31
have a long way to go and uh we want to
6:33
get to to that point that that everybody
6:35
on the team wants to Winning is
6:37
obviously fun and makes basketball
6:40
enjoyable not that you guys haven't been
6:41
having fun all season but there looks to
6:43
be a different kind of demeanor and
6:44
calmness and looseness this entire team
6:46
specifically you why is that what's
6:48
changed over this last couple weeks
6:51
either from a personal standpoint or a
6:53
team standpoint uh personally I would
6:56
say it's nothing left to lose I mean
6:59
it's the back end of the season and um
7:01
you know it's again all or nothing so I
7:05
think we're putting everything on the
7:06
line you know playing as hard as we can
7:09
uh you know being as confident as we can
7:11
that way everything is we have a good
7:14
Flow State or momentum going into uh
7:16
later later parts of the season are you
7:18
approaching these games almost like
7:19
elimination type games since you guys
7:21
are really don't have much room for um I
7:25
would say yeah especially I think it
7:27
starts in practice um you know we we
7:29
help HD holds our holds our team to a
7:31
standard of you know keeping the scout
7:33
team to 40% on their field goals like
7:36
making it sure that
7:38
like uh they don't get any good looks
7:40
like we're boxing out of rebound and
7:41
anytime we miss out on the box out we
7:44
don't uh get a good shot or we don't get
7:47
back in transition just like any small
7:49
errors I think like we uh we've been
7:51
held accountable so I think that's
7:52
helping us you know dial into the small
7:54
things that's raised the edge like cross
7:57
the we understand we understand the
7:58
urgency hum tells us he didn't even know
8:01
what quad one quad two is how much do
8:04
you guys think about that how much do
8:05
you guys talk about it especially given
8:07
where you are right now I mean I I hear
8:09
it mentioned here and there but I don't
8:11
really keep up with it I just know that
8:12
you know we got big name teams and we
8:14
have you know teams that are uh I guess
8:17
not held to that standard so I think
8:19
like either way it goes a losses a loss
8:21
and a win is a win setf Falls very
8:23
closely why don't you pay too much
8:24
attention to it is it just something
8:26
that you don't want to worry about it's
8:27
out of your control what is that uh more
8:29
or less yeah I just take every game one
8:32
by one I'm not really focused on you
8:34
know say if the team is is ranked at the
8:37
beginning of the Season like can would
8:39
be Kansas you know where they are
8:43
now would been
8:46
far yeah
8:49
uh I'm just grateful I'm confident and
8:52
I'm excited for you know what's to come
8:55
uh you know we have really good
8:56
opportunities in these next few weeks uh
8:59
in as long as we stay together as a team
9:01
we stay playing for each other and we
9:02
just enjoy each other and we enjoy the
9:04
moment I think it could take us a really
9:06
long way so and what would you say to
9:08
people you've won five straight games
9:09
longest winning streak of the Season
9:11
some people say well they've beaten a
9:12
bunch of bad teams these are teams they
9:14
should be what would you say to those
9:16
people that say that I don't really got
9:18
nothing to say to no I I don't really
9:20
care they say what they want to say but
9:23
uh we know the type of team we are we
9:25
know we know the we know the team that
9:27
we're becoming and you know we know
9:29
were're capable of doing so whatever
9:31
they got to say oh well have you looked
9:33
at this during this win streak have you
9:34
look at every game as kind of like an
9:36
elimination game and have you followed
9:38
the net rankings and quad four quad
9:40
three we haven't really followed the uh
9:42
net rankings or nothing like that I'm
9:44
sure the coaches have of course but I
9:46
mean us as a team in this locker room we
9:47
view every game as hey do or die you
9:50
know uh last game we we know if we lose
9:52
to Florida State we're done we know if
9:53
we lose in Miami we're done uh we know a
9:57
loss in Virginia Tech this upcoming
9:59
Blacksburg will really hurt so we defin
10:01
we're definitely seeing every game as as
10:04
a do or down just trying to take it one
10:05
by one Seth he's tried 100 lineup
10:08
combinations this year it feels
10:10
like the fact that he's figured this one
10:13
out now that he has tinkered enough to
10:14
get to the lineup that seems to be
10:16
working what does that sort of say about
10:17
him as a coach and being willing to be
10:19
flexible uh I mean that he's willing to
10:22
adapt uh you know he sees the problems
10:25
he's not just ignoring it like a bunch
10:28
of you know haters claim whatever
10:29
whatever the crazy takes are but he can
10:31
adapt he can adjust and you know he can
10:34
he can be his own coach you know I mean
10:36
I think it's just a simple as that he's
10:38
done a really good job these last few
10:39
weeks and making that making those
10:41
adjustments and I mean like I said
10:44
earlier the jump that we made on the
10:45
offensive and defensive end has been
10:46
crazy so about the ball movement in
10:49
recent particularly today certain
10:50
stretches the ball movement seem to be
10:52
among the best you you've had this
10:54
season mhm more spacing uh guys are
10:58
stepping in the shots guys are more
10:59
confident and we're just playing for
11:01
each other I don't think this this whole
11:02
year we haven't uh but these last few
11:05
weeks I think we've been playing for
11:06
each other everybody's been
11:08
unselfish uh and guys are just enjoying
11:11
it I mean like today I took three shots
11:13
today and I'm perfectly fine with it
11:16
because my teammates got to eat uh I got
11:20
to help my teammates eat and we won the
11:21
game by 20 points so I think guys are
11:23
just kind of taking that taking that
11:25
responsibility now and just taking that
11:26
role and everybody's embracing it so to
11:28
to go off of that these last few games
11:30
you guys have shot a lot better from
11:31
three I know maybe it can be hard to
11:32
explain why shots go in don't go in but
11:35
I what do you think is leading to the I
11:36
guess increased percentage of Threes
11:39
that you guys are making or teams
11:40
defending you different like yeah I
11:41
don't know cuz I feel like uh this whole
11:42
year we've been getting good looks uh
11:44
like weight for us is a game that we
11:45
shot terrible from three but wake force
11:47
is a game that I feel like we got really
11:48
good looks but I don't know I was kind
11:51
of thinking that too I was kind thinking
11:53
the other day to be honest like like man
11:55
we made we made a really good jump but
11:56
like I said I think guys are just I
11:58
think guys are playing playing confident
12:00
and guys are just playing their game and
12:02
it's going a long way for us
