bark there in the second half what
0:01
triggered that um our leader our leaders
0:03
on the floor our older guys man they
0:05
they we every H we went into they talk
0:06
to us they let us know that was losing
0:08
his game and we to come out with a
0:09
certain kind of energy you know and I
0:11
feel like around that 7 Minute Mark we
0:12
kind of pick it up a little bit and push
0:14
back up is there a sense of relief
0:16
getting a w regardless of how the game
0:17
was played you guys walked off the court
0:19
with a win it feels like it's probably
0:20
been a while oh it feels good it feels
0:22
good no like I said every win feels good
0:24
you know we not going to hold our heads
0:26
while we didn't play the best we got to
0:27
win it's hard to win if we got it done
0:29
tonight after Alabama you said that the
0:31
team's not tough enough yet do you feel
0:32
like there was some progress made uh
0:35
today uh yeah I feel a step in the right
0:37
direction you know it's definitely
0:38
things you got to still clean up but
0:39
today we definitely a step in the right
0:40
direction we got a week off and we going
0:42
to keep building on that and by the time
0:44
we get to Florida we'll be even better
0:45
what kind of things you need to clean up
0:47
you think um I think defensively
0:50
defensively we can clean up some things
0:51
on the defensive end uh turnovers we got
0:54
to take care of the ball at a way better
0:55
way better rate as we did in the
0:57
beginning of the Season thing how are
0:58
you uh progressing per
1:00
on learning to play defense at the
1:02
college level what do you think you need
1:03
to work on I think I need to work on
1:05
playing defense yeah um just continue
1:07
just being in the right spot um like
1:11
being low being in help and
1:12
understanding where I got to be on the
1:13
floor when I should be helping when I
1:15
shouldn't so you know just understanding
1:17
where I should be offensively on that
1:19
side of the ball are you kind of ging
1:21
more confidence more comfortability out
1:23
there to kind of just hey like I can
1:25
play at this level I could go score when
1:27
I want to you feel at that like that
1:28
right now um
1:30
um I mean yeah I always feel like that
1:33
you know um I always feel like that but
1:35
for sure you know I'm definitely getting
1:36
more comfortable understanding where my
1:37
shots going to come from what shot I
1:39
shouldn't take what shot I should take
1:40
and just going there and play my game
1:43
how' you feel about the end game
1:44
execution you guys are in a tight game
1:46
the ACC opener you know there there's
1:47
going to be more of these how do you
1:48
feel like that went uh it went well it
1:50
went well you know we executed we got
1:52
stopped we rebounded uh we we went down
1:55
and got everything we want to get on
1:56
offense we got the certain shots and we
1:58
pulled it out
2:00
how important was Seth's presence out
2:03
there today giving not only energy but
2:05
it seemed like too in key moments a
2:07
sense of calm us um he he's super
2:09
important you know he's one of our older
2:11
guys on the team and he's kind of
2:14
someone that that we need to lead us you
2:16
know him and RJ uh both been here before
2:18
they both been played in big games so he
2:20
definitely was super important to us and
2:21
tonight
2:22
shows what do you feel like are going to
2:24
be points of emphasis in the next
2:26
practice next film session what do you
2:27
think is going to be um we got working
2:30
on defense working on defense and taking
2:32
care of the ball you know 18 was it 18
2:34
turnovers tonight yeah yeah 18 turnovers
2:36
I feel it's way too much for us you know
2:38
got to take care of the ball way better
2:39
what do you feel like happening in those
2:41
moments to ca those um just being rushed
2:45
being rush trying to look for a home run
2:46
play and we should be heading singles
2:48
trying to look for a home run play so we
2:50
just get back to making an easy play
2:52
making a routine play
2:54
routinely and on the defensive end like
2:56
what were you personally
2:58
not um we fed a lot especially
3:01
especially late late in the clock late
3:03
in the game f a
3:04
lot fix
3:06
that I was telling the guys in the team
3:09
in the locker room almost for like two
3:11
months I know it's only been like two
3:12
weeks but you start losing you know
3:16
these days get longer so glad we finally
3:18
got back on the winning track we didn't
3:19
play our best game uh definitely didn't
3:21
play our worst game though but we made a
3:23
lot of we made a lot of good steps today
3:24
it was really good to get back into that
3:25
win column getting the win in it of
3:27
itself it wasn't a super pretty game
3:29
there were a lot of is where you guys
3:30
weren't very clean but getting the win
3:32
does that maybe kind of relieve things a
3:34
little bit so you guys can spring
3:36
forward now some absolutely absolutely I
3:38
think a lot of guys on this team are
3:40
feeling just stress and pressure from
3:42
the media from maybe their families
3:44
whatever it was but I definitely think
3:46
guys are feeling it uh we put up 68 how
3:50
many 68 points today and we didn't put
3:53
up that many points I mean the other day
3:54
so I feel like guys were feeling this
3:55
pressure and it was kind of taking a
3:57
toll on them on the court so just to get
3:59
this win it definitely released some
4:00
pressure and it's a confidence booster
4:03
so you know I'm really glad that have
4:04
you felt some of that stress and
4:05
pressure no I genuinely don't care when
4:08
you're seeing it from so you're seeing
4:09
it in the room obviously to say that
4:11
you're must be seeing in the room so
4:12
what are you seeing I you know I've been
4:14
here for three years I can tell when
4:16
guys are playing with confidence when
4:17
guys are playing with not confidence uh
4:19
you know when guys are always thinking
4:20
about someone on the court uh and that's
4:22
kind of my job now you know I'm a vet
4:23
I'm a leader so it's my job just to keep
4:25
their heads High uh when things are
4:28
going when things are going bad so it's
4:29
been me and RJ who have really just kind
4:32
of been the voices and the preachers in
4:33
this in this three- game losing streak
4:35
after the Alabama game Co Davis said
4:37
that you know we're going to get dirty
4:39
in the next couple of practices what
4:40
were those practices like and how do you
4:42
think that helped you to it was like a
4:43
summer practice really intense really
4:45
physical uh getting up and down and
4:47
really just Hing in on our discipline
4:49
details we do that every day
4:52
but we got punished this week you know
4:54
if we didn't do what coach said you know
4:56
so I'm glad that we had that uh you know
4:59
we got some things taken away from us I
5:01
w't speak much more but I'm glad that
5:04
that happened cuz it really made us take
5:05
a step back and kind of realize like hey
5:08
this is the jersey that we're wearing
5:09
this is the team that we're playing for
5:10
like we really got to step it up this
5:11
isn't the standard so what was his
5:13
message in the postgame locker room uh
5:16
that no matter what he wants us to be
5:17
happy a win is a win there were some
5:19
mistakes that we made but there were
5:20
some good things that we did also but
5:23
just to raise the team morale and just
5:25
have a confidence booster from getting
5:27
good team win he was really happy about
5:29
that so saying that he wants to be as
5:31
happy as we can be so give us an example
5:33
that
5:34
punishment
5:35
uh like running 33s in practice I know
5:38
that was a huge coach Roy thing uh but
5:42
now he's on to that too unfortunately so
5:45
so like that like that yeah and there's
5:48
some other things had he used that
5:49
previously with you guys in
5:51
season no cuz even two years ago you has
5:54
had some similar stretches like this two
5:56
years ago we did two years ago we did I
5:57
think he was still kind of finding his
5:58
way as a coach he if you want be mean or
6:01
be nice so so he kind of pulled out the
6:03
mean card yeah yeah he did he did but
6:04
I'm glad he did do you think that needs
6:06
to be sustained you think maybe that's
6:07
what this team responds to the mean card
6:10
we
6:11
just I guess yeah honestly we're a
6:13
younger team uh a lot of guys on this
6:16
team with I mean not I won't say little
6:19
experience but not as big experience as
6:21
other schools have so I definitely think
6:23
that we need to be disciplined more like
6:26
like he's been doing when we're acting
6:28
out of sort what kind of Tak led to the
6:30
three threes turning the ball over not
6:33
being low man not talking on defense the
6:36
same things that we were doing when
6:38
we're losing games same thing you guys
6:40
talk a little more today in defense I
6:42
think so I think so we got tired uh
6:44
always got a little quiet but our bench
6:46
was a huge stock today which was huge so
6:48
we got continue to do that absolutely I
6:50
saw you take a Elliott aside or put your
6:53
arm around after turnover is that kind
6:54
of what you're talking about like hey
6:55
your role now as a leader and helping
6:57
guys with the confidence uh yeah yeah
6:59
yeah yeah I can tell Elliot was
7:00
frustrated with himself annoyed with
7:02
himself with uh his turnovers I think it
7:04
was after turnover when I went to go put
7:06
my arm around him so yeah like I said
7:08
that's just my job now uh I'm a vet I
7:11
I've seen it I've been through it he has
7:13
too so I mean he's a leader on this team
7:15
too so it's my job leader bench player
7:19
walk on it's my job to be there for you
7:21
you mentioned the 68 points ear it was
7:24
um it was good for us the competition
7:27
level like we needed that did he need to
7:28
send that message too 100% And I think
7:31
that's why he did what he did um and
7:34
it's out of a place of Love cuz he knows
7:35
we can be really great as a team and
7:37
what we can be so uh we definitely need
7:40
that um cuz you know nothing's going to
7:42
be easy he always talks about you got to
7:44
find the enjoy enjoyment of you know the
7:46
other side of heart and um the
7:48
difficulty so I mean we're going through
7:49
that right now so but at the same time
7:51
we just got to enjoy it it wasn't very
7:52
pretty today a lot of the stretches were
7:54
not pretty but you guys still managed to
7:55
get a win is the relief of having a win
7:58
does that make it easier maybe to bring
7:59
forward now yeah I mean it feels like we
8:01
haven't won in like a month so like I'm
8:04
glad we got a win I know it was ugly but
8:06
the win's a win um Georgia Tech is a
8:07
really good team it's h conference so uh
8:10
H play it's big time it could be
8:12
anyone's night so I mean but overall it
8:14
does feel good to get a win kind of just
8:15
get back on uh um track we lost three in
8:19
a row so um I know it wasn't the
8:21
prettiest and not the way we would
8:22
wanted to go but U I'm just glad the way
8:25
we just kind of just fined out strong
8:26
and um executed well about the last 10
8:29
minut if they went like four minutes
8:30
without a field goal but you guys
8:32
couldn't pull away what what was what
8:35
were the issues offensively you think uh
8:37
I just think you know we was able to get
8:39
stops and we we held them like you said
8:41
for a long period of time and then we
8:43
just weren't executing just W making
8:45
shots um I think sometimes shots were
8:47
for us but then also our spacing um
8:50
that's one thing that we've been
8:51
practicing and practice was our our
8:53
spacing cuz against the Alabama game you
8:55
could just see like we were all like you
8:57
know bunched up together so and it do
8:59
really gave advantage to make a play so
9:02
um we got to do a better job on the
9:04
offensive end I know the offens end is
9:05
going to come going to make shot shots
9:07
are going to fall uh we just got to stay
9:08
to it and revely on our defense cuz
9:10
that's what's going to win some games
9:12
Seth was talking about you guys noticing
9:14
guys feeling some pressure maybe some of
9:15
the younger guys are stressed trying to
9:17
help her lead that as an older guy are
9:19
you kind of doing that too are you
9:20
noticing that as well no 100% I mean I
9:22
think and you know for this year I think
9:25
overall everyone wants to have a really
9:27
good year and rightfully so ually as a
9:30
team so um I think for us for us to play
9:34
like I know we can we just got to kind
9:36
of just relax a little bit I think we're
9:38
trying to be too perfect even for myself
9:41
um just go out there and play basketball
9:43
play together and have fun at the end of
9:44
the day because sometimes I think you
9:46
could take you know you put too much
9:47
pressure on yourself it takes the joy
9:49
out of it and you don't really play like
9:50
how you know to so uh that's been really
9:53
the main message at the end of the day
9:54
cuz sometimes we get lost in our own
9:56
feelings when shots are not falling and
9:58
we're not executing the right place
10:00
because you know internally we're not
10:01
there on the court so that's really just
10:03
been the main message I think you know
10:04
it's all new for everybody yeah
10:05
everyone's different um this is all new
10:08
a different experience you have guys
10:10
from transfers we got freshman um you
10:13
know we got Seth J W who you know you
10:16
know work their way up to be starters so
10:18
it's it's a whole different Dynamic for
10:19
everyone right now so I think we're just
10:21
hitting a learning curve right now but
10:22
we got to give some each other some
10:25
we're going to be F what is the the 33
10:28
what is that drill oh no you run it
10:30
ain't no drill it's just you run up and
10:31
down the court three times a got make it
10:33
in 33 seconds okay so whoever we had
10:36
drills whoever uh lost that drill the
10:39
other team had a uh run so and that we
10:42
haven't did that since uh
10:43
Ro since my firstes so yeah and it came
10:46
out this week before this game it came
10:48
out this week because of just just the
10:50
snap you guys out I like we needed it
10:52
more than anything I think it was
10:53
holding us accountable um and that it
10:57
gives you that fight that fire that
10:59
that coach Davis wants to have you know
11:02
for us as a team so I'm glad we did it
11:05
because you know nobody wanted to lose
11:07
cuz nobody wanted to run so uh we
11:10
definitely need you men youed stress a
11:11
minute ago have you personally felt some
11:13
stress especially as game goes by and
11:16
you haven't sort of regain match your
11:18
four has it been adding up for you yeah
11:21
I mean it's it's been hard for me a
11:23
little bit uh just in terms of obviously
11:25
I'm not shooting the ball really well
11:26
and you know trying to repeat what I did
11:28
last year I
11:30
it's something that could just weigh on
11:31
me a little bit more but um I've been
11:34
really just trying to make sure my
11:36
mental is right and I'm not uh getting
11:38
caught up in you know shots are not
11:40
falling now I got to sto shooting like
11:42
one thing about me I'm never going to
11:43
waver my confidence I put a lot of work
11:45
in to uh get to where I was last year
11:47
even until now so um I'm not going to
11:50
just doubt myself just because I'm not
11:52
shooting the ball well um and at the
11:55
same time I think in the start of the
11:57
season I was putting too much pressure
11:59
on myself a little bit um self
12:01
sabotaging myself and just trying to be
12:03
perfect trying to make every shot like
12:05
if I don't make this shot then I got to
12:07
make the next one like that's not
12:08
realistically not even the best players
12:10
make every shot so um it's been up and
12:13
down course for me a little bit but one
12:14
thing I've been doing a great job of
12:16
kind of just staying in the moment
12:17
staying in the course and eventually
12:18
it's going to it's going to happen how
12:19
it's supposed to and um I'll get back to
12:22
my old ago you and Niki said and that
12:25
run that you guys had to New Orleans
12:27
that with Brady even if he's off for
12:28
while you wanted to shoot shoot shoot
12:31
because eventually one was going to go
12:32
in a second and he was going to go off
12:34
is that the same kind of approach you
12:35
have to take within the framework of the
12:36
offense just keep shooting it keep
12:38
shooting it and eventually it's going to
12:39
sort of click and you get on a roll yeah
12:41
I know I know it is I mean I mean I
12:43
didn't put too much work in for me to
12:45
stop shooting um and uh I know it's
12:50
going to fall I know it's it's going to
12:51
happen I just got to stay with it stay
12:53
confident even when things are going way
12:54
and whether or not um so that's like
12:57
really my main message but at the same
12:58
time take shots I have you know watched
13:01
a lot of film and just seen you know how
13:03
my feet are set how like what my looks
13:05
look like it's a little bit different
13:06
than last year some of off the dribble
13:08
I'm not getting as many open looks I as
13:10
I can just because of um The Scouting
13:12
Report this year but um coach Davis and
13:15
V coach have been doing a good job kind
13:16
of just putting me in different
13:17
positions to get better look so um one
13:20
thing about me I'm just never going
13:22
to not stop shooting I'm RJ the Mind
13:26
knowing it's it's going to happen when
13:29
he was going to keep shooting obviously
13:31
but you guys what you guys were saying
13:33
is that he knew that you guys knew just
13:35
keep doing what you do and eventually
13:37
it's going to come and it sort of calmed
13:38
him when he was going through some bad
13:39
stretches yeah I mean I think that's
13:41
what's the only way to get out of his
13:43
shooting stump is to continue keep
13:44
shooting so Brady didn't stop doing so
13:47
BL after after Alabama you mentioned
13:50
that you know it's hard to play
13:51
basketball without enthusiasm that's
13:53
what you wanted to see did you see some
13:55
of that today like at least some
13:57
progress uh we had some glimps of it I
13:59
think um we had stretches of when we had
14:03
really good um things going well for us
14:05
and then sometimes we kind of relaxed
14:07
and got into our our flow where we
14:10
weren't as enthusiasm as we should have
14:12
been but um we're progressing the right
14:14
direction so uh we just got to continue
14:16
to stay with it and and pull each other
14:18
along I know it's hard to you know get
14:20
lost into the game and um as ugly as the
14:23
game was today your energy not being
14:25
there but at the same time our energy
14:27
has to be there all the time so um we
14:29
did a bad job of it today but we got to
14:30
do better job moving forward is there a
14:33
sign that you that you can see when you
14:35
know that the other guys are playing
14:36
with with that fire I mean you can't get
14:38
inside someone's head but is there a way
14:40
to tell yeah I mean I think it happens
14:42
when we get stopped as a collective as a
14:44
group and then like even when the crowd
14:45
gets into it so I think we just we got
14:48
to do a better job of kind of just
14:49
feeding off each other's energy a little
14:50
more rather than ourselves team wise you
14:53
sense some kind of unsettling feeling
14:55
when you come into a game as an 18-point
14:57
favorite and then find yourself in a
14:59
close game goes down the stretch could
15:02
you sense that any any type of feelings
15:04
like that on the team as this game's
15:06
progressing I mean well Georgia Tech is
15:07
a good team I mean uh like you said we
15:10
might have been favored a lot more
15:11
points than what we produced but um
15:14
they're really good team and they played
15:15
hard and um we're still learning at the
15:18
same time I mean we got we did a lot of
15:20
good things but at the same time we did
15:21
a lot of uh things that we you know
15:24
messed up on especially on the defensive
15:25
end um but I think we progress in the
15:28
right way and we're heading that that
15:30
direction so we just got to stay with it
15:32
I know it's going to it's a long season
15:33
I know it's still early with nine games
15:35
in but um you got to congratulate
15:37
yourselves for a win because we haven't
15:38
won in a while so we'll take this one RJ
15:41
going off what you were talking about
15:43
earlier y'all feeding off of each
15:44
other's energy it seemed especially like
15:47
in transition that was the case I think
15:49
I count of you all had like a 15 or 165
15:52
advantage in um in Fast Break points and
15:55
seemed like yall would really rebounding
15:57
down but you and and Ian and Seth
16:01
especially were like the guards are just
16:03
getting out in transition and finishing
16:04
possessions can you talk about that and
16:06
how that played a big role and may have
16:09
been a deciding factor in the in the win
16:11
today well I told him like I told him
16:13
the hdle that we're really good in
16:15
transition and not a lot of teams can
16:17
stop us in trenes because of the guards
16:19
we have we're quick we're athletic so um
16:22
but it has to get stop we have to get
16:23
stops more to run so that's what we did
16:25
that's where we able to get out and I
16:26
think Ellie did a good job of pitching
16:28
the ball ahead and
16:29
um we're smaller we ran like a small
16:31
lineup today so uh myself Seth and
16:34
Elliot did a good job of kind of just
16:36
coming in helping out with the Bas the
16:38
rebounds um and be able to leak out and
16:40
get some transition bucks what would you
16:42
like to see I guess improve
