real quick. Um, when you don't play
0:04
catch, what is this? Which one am I
0:07
supposed to talk? The one on the right.
0:08
All right. When you don't play catch in
0:10
the first inning and you give a team
0:12
like that, that's the difference in the
0:14
momentum. They had the momentum of the
0:15
game and um and we Kyson was pretty good
0:20
after that. I mean, he logged in and
0:21
tried he tried to do the best he could.
0:23
Um, I would want to pitch that guy in
0:25
that game every day. And so, uh, uh,
0:27
then we got past the point of trying and
0:30
started competing at the end of the
0:31
game, which is really fun to watch. And
0:33
when we do that, we're a pretty good
0:35
baseball team. Questions? Just raise
0:37
your hand. I'll get to you.
0:41
Coach, I was going to ask you just that.
0:43
I mean, after that first inning, your
0:44
team settled down. Kyson settled down.
0:46
Just what what was different from that
0:48
first inning? Obviously, a little bit of
0:50
a boot early in first play. I think
0:52
playing catch. I mean, big as anything.
0:54
I mean, uh, first softline drive hit to
0:57
Dawson, panic set in and all of a sudden
0:59
you had to make some pitches and then we
1:01
had a double play ball and we throw
1:02
away. I mean, you want those balls hit
1:04
to those two young men on the left side
1:06
of our infield all day long. I mean, uh,
1:09
they worked really hard in practice and
1:10
they're good players and so, uh, that's
1:13
really what took the wind out of his
1:15
cell a little bit. He's trying to pitch
1:16
out of it and he's attacking the strike
1:18
zone and those guys are hitting balls
1:19
hard and um, that's what happens when
1:22
you're in a
1:24
That's like a super regional game. When
1:26
you're in those deals and you walk a guy
1:28
or you make an error and you give the
1:29
momentum away, that's what when they
1:32
talk about hitting gets contagious,
1:34
that's when the game gets really
1:35
spiritual for the other team and it can
1:38
and it kind of got spiritual for us when
1:39
we kind of got rolling there a little
1:41
bit. Got big hits and had maybe had to
1:44
use some guys they might not have used
1:45
before and and whatnot. So, it's and it
1:49
was really and reason why I'm in
1:51
coaching is the last guy we threw. I
1:53
mean, the guy threw really good early
1:54
for us and uh he hadn't thrown in a
1:57
while, been throwing live BP for us and
1:59
all of a sudden to walk out there and he
2:01
was electric and he broke through it
2:04
when now he knows whatever he does in
2:07
his life, he can accomplish it. That's
2:10
what coaching's about and that's why I'm
2:12
in coaching. It ain't about the wins and
2:14
losses for me. It's about watching guys
2:16
break through a mold and something
2:19
negative happened to them and they break
2:21
through it and they're back and it's fun
2:24
to watch.
2:25
Yeah. Skip, speaking of pitching, what
2:28
will be your plan for tomorrow against
2:30
Nebraska? Well, my my dad paid his bills
2:33
uh pulling the bills out of a cowboy hat
2:35
and that's what we'll do tomorrow. We'll
2:37
figure it out. I know crossing will
2:39
start tomorrow's first game and uh uh
2:41
we'll go from there.
2:44
Coach Sean Kim Johnson, he hasn't
2:45
pitched since April. What went into the
2:47
decision to bring him in tonight? But it
2:49
was a big moment for him. I mean, a good
2:51
crowd. You see him pitch in that crowd
2:53
to see if he can battle through that
2:55
deal. And he did. And that's really the
2:58
decision. I mean, we're already getting
2:59
beat by, you know, five or six. We see
3:01
what happens. You know, he goes out
3:03
there and he's he's got a really good
3:05
arm. He's electric. Uh I mean, it's uh
3:08
he he put his time in. He's worked
3:10
extremely hard at it. And now he's broke
3:13
through it. He understands that. And
3:14
that's what really coaching is about is
3:17
watching young men battle through what
3:18
he battled through. Something happened
3:20
really unique tonight for the University
3:23
of Oklahoma. You got to see a young man
3:25
battle through demons and then walk back
3:27
out there and do what he did. It's
3:29
pretty special.
3:33
Uh just you go three or four tonight. Um
3:36
you know, what are you seeing? What are
3:39
you thinking at the plate knowing that
3:42
y'all have such a big deficit that
3:43
you're trying to overcome? Um, well, we
3:46
talk about one pitch at a time. So,
3:48
taking in one pitch and passing the
3:50
baton to the next guy and keeping the
3:52
rotation going. Like you said earlier,
3:54
hitting is contagious. So, just trying
3:56
to pass the bat over to the next guy.
4:00
Um,
4:02
Skip, what did you make of the way that
4:04
UNCC was seeing Kyson's pitches tonight?
4:07
It it just looked like they were able to
4:10
pick him up. You might want to ask them
4:13
that question cuz I couldn't answer that
4:15
for you at this moment. You might want
4:17
to ask those guys that question because
4:19
after the first inning, he got a little
4:20
bit different. Then when he got
4:22
tired, he got a little bit different
4:24
again.
4:27
Just what was it like to see Cam come
4:30
back on the mound after such a long
4:31
absence? Awesome. Honestly, to see him
4:35
go through what go through what he went
4:37
through and to come back and shine in
4:40
the light is awesome to see.
4:45
Anybody else?
4:47
Okay. Thanks, guys. Thank you guys.
