just uh obviously a hard-fought win
0:03
against a really good pitcher. Um ours
0:05
was just a little bit better. I thought
0:07
Tai was absolutely dominant. Uh big big
0:10
moment in the first inning uh where he
0:12
got off the field first and third.
0:14
Nobody out. Awfully proud of our defense
0:16
today. Um not easy to do after late
0:19
night and a quick turnaround to come and
0:21
and play clean baseball and that's what
0:24
we did. And the slug was a difference
0:26
for us today. I mean, we left some we
0:28
left some things out there offensively,
0:30
but the slug was the difference with the
0:31
home runs from uh Brum and Zo.
0:35
Questions.
0:37
What were the challenges with such a
0:39
quick turnaround for everybody? Well,
0:41
yeah. I mean, not any I don't think
0:43
anybody got a whole lot of sleep. Um,
0:45
you know, we get up and basically come
0:47
downstairs in our uniform and and u try
0:49
to get a quick bite to eat and do a a
0:52
quick uh pitcher meeting and a hitter
0:54
meeting. And um the key is just hit the
0:57
reset button and then that that's it's
0:58
easier said than done, but when you kind
1:00
of try to practice that over the course
1:01
of the year, um if you let your emotions
1:04
get involved and tell yourself how tired
1:05
you are, you're not going to play very
1:06
well. So, um I think everybody kind of
1:08
tricked their minds today to had the had
1:11
the uh usually it's a quiet bus ride uh
1:14
on the way to the park to get kind of
1:15
focused. Today it was uh we had some
1:18
music bump in and the guys brought the
1:20
energy and that was that was a big
1:21
difference maker.
1:25
Ty, did you go back to the hotel early
1:27
last night or did you stay till the end
1:29
of the game? Oh, I stayed till the end
1:30
of the game. Okay. Wonder because
1:32
sometimes they'll next day's pitcher.
1:36
So, what was what was working so well
1:38
for you after you got out of that first
1:40
game? Um, coach had a scouting report. I
1:43
was just throwing what he was calling
1:44
me. We kind of had a meeting after last
1:45
week with him and I I shook him off and
1:47
he didn't like that. So he I swore hand
1:51
him on the Bible that I would never
1:52
shake off again. So
1:57
Kaden, can you take us through the home
1:58
run, please? Yeah. Um I just was trying
2:01
to put a good swing on the ball. I had
2:03
come up with runners in scoring
2:04
position. Uh less than two outs a couple
2:07
times early in the game. Uh had a good
2:10
game plan going in that third at bat.
2:11
Kind of knew what he was trying to do
2:13
getting the heater in on me and um just
2:15
was able to get the barrel out front. So
2:18
that was good. Coach, how important was
2:20
it the home run, not just to go ahead,
2:22
but you've left the bases loaded with
2:23
nobody out the the inning before and
2:26
they had gone ahead in the top half of
2:27
that inning. So how important was it
2:28
that two run home in the bottom of the
2:30
fifth? Yeah, it it's giant because
2:32
because the momentum had started to
2:34
swing the other way and uh you know,
2:35
they had scored like you said, they had
2:37
scored the run. So the only goal there
2:38
is just let's find a way to win this
2:40
inning. I mean, what happened in the
2:41
past doesn't really matter. So, um, but
2:43
we've been we've been a very
2:45
opportunistic offense that way where,
2:47
um, we really responded challenge and,
2:49
um, you know, that was a big swing by a
2:52
guy that's hitting the middle of the
2:53
order for a reason. Has driven in a lot
2:54
of big runs for us and and, um, you
2:56
know, it's a really confident swing
2:58
right there. Will, you talked about the
3:01
challenge of coming back today.
3:03
Tomorrow, you
3:04
face possibly a bigger challenge. You
3:07
may have to play two games. And I'm
3:10
wondering what is your pitching
3:11
situation right now. Do you know your
3:13
third game starter? And beyond that,
3:16
what would be your plan? Well, we I I'm
3:19
not ready to name a starter just yet. I
3:21
don't think we're going to talk about
3:22
that. Uh Tai certainly gave us a shot in
3:24
the arm. I mean, with going as deep as
3:25
he did, and we only used two arms in
3:28
this game. So, um you know, we've got a
3:30
lot of guys that haven't thrown yet.
3:31
We've got some starters that that have
3:33
yet to take the ball. Um, so we'll we'll
3:35
kind of talk about it this evening and
3:37
wake up and the the challenge is we get
3:39
to extend our season. I mean, that's the
3:41
fun part of it is is coming out and you
3:44
know, you got just just let it fly. You
3:46
know, you don't really think about the
3:48
what if. I mean, we've we've been uh
3:50
backs against the wall for a while now
3:52
and uh our guys seem to play at their
3:54
best when we're kind of in that
3:55
scenario. So, um, good thing is is that,
3:58
you know, we've got a coaching staff as
4:00
well that's that's had experience and
4:02
coming back through the losers bracket.
4:04
regional and winning it. Um, so again,
4:06
there's just everything that goes into
4:08
it. You just understand that you can't
4:09
look at the the giant picture. You just
4:11
got to look at how can we be at our best
4:13
to start the game tomorrow. Um, and how
4:16
can we respond to, you know, things that
4:18
come our way. So, did you have to win
4:19
four consecutive in the earlier season
4:22
you're talking about? Uh, yeah. Yeah.
4:24
just finding a way to I mean we we did
4:26
in the tournament last year the Big 10
4:28
tournament but other regionals and stuff
4:30
like that. I mean we've our coaching
4:32
staff has that experience. Ty, how aware
4:35
were you going into the game and not
4:37
only did you want to have a quality
4:39
start, but you want to eat up innings
4:41
and you wanted to go deep as deep as you
4:42
could in this game. Yeah, I think
4:44
especially with us losing day one and
4:46
we're going to have to play another game
4:48
unfortunately. But yeah, it's just get
4:50
our get as far as I can in the game and
4:52
put us in a good position to win and
4:54
trust the defense behind me. That's kind
4:55
of just the main goal with that.
4:58
Everybody good? All right. Thank you
5:00
guys. Congratulations. See you tomorrow.
