great Po in there you know a lot in that
0:01
second half he obviously his defensive
0:04
uh you know versatility was certainly a
0:06
benefit and of course he made that shot
0:07
to take the lead can you just speak to
0:10
obviously Drake's defense in that second
0:12
half as well as uh the shot you made in
0:13
the corner well I mean Drake is um he's
0:17
gifted um athletically and uh you know
0:21
he's um he's a leite defensively um on
0:25
and off the ball and I thought his uh
0:28
length athleticism and pressure on the
0:30
ball when we were switching caused them
0:32
problems and then also um his ability to
0:36
rebound the basketball I thought he
0:37
stepped up um when he got into the game
0:40
and and um to be able to have the
0:43
confidence to be able to knock down that
0:44
three in the corner to put us up by one
0:46
was huge and so uh really happy and
0:49
really proud of uh Drake
0:51
tonight keber in the second half a
0:54
couple of the guys mentioned they were
0:55
talking about Kansas we don't want to
0:56
let this be Kansas at halftime what was
0:58
your message to the guys at half time
1:00
just from your Vantage Point what was it
1:01
like as you were steadily chipping away
1:03
at that 21. t well I you know
1:07
I I've said to this group that
1:12
um the growth and the step that this
1:15
team needs to take is to getting to that
1:18
level that allowed us to get back to the
1:20
game just to start the game that way and
1:22
to stay there
1:25
and yes it it gave us and it gave them
1:29
confidence on what we were able to do on
1:31
the road at Kansas um to be able to give
1:34
them an example of there's a a lot of
1:37
time to be able to come back it's not a
1:39
situation where we got to come down come
1:42
back from 21 and two possessions just a
1:45
possession at a time actually the first
1:48
four minutes of the second half they
1:50
came to the uh to the bench and I told
1:52
them they're not making comeback
1:54
Place said you're just not you're not
1:58
getting the rebounds you're not getting
2:00
defensive stops you're not getting
2:02
through screens you're not getting loose
2:03
balls you're you're not taking the ball
2:06
strong to the hoop you're not dunking
2:08
when you get around the basket just not
2:11
making those plays and I said if you
2:13
would change that this game would flip
2:16
and they were able to do that against a
2:18
really good dating team but and also
2:21
told them this isn't sustainable you
2:23
can't do this every game it's just not
2:26
and that's going to be one of the major
2:29
steps this team is can they play with
2:32
the sense of urgency on both ends of the
2:33
floor can they start there and can they
2:36
stay there for four 40 minutes Hubert
2:39
straight away right here I want to have
2:41
you expound on what you're were just
2:42
getting at there uh there was something
2:43
in the air in this gym today just wild
2:45
comebacks it's probably the best single
2:47
day in the history of this tournament
2:48
but I'm curious after this kind of
2:50
result and a phenomenal comeback what
2:53
emotions are you feeling are you feeling
2:55
concern uh for your team are you feeling
2:57
Elation that they were able to pull
2:59
themselves together and and you know
3:01
provide the University at second largest
3:03
comeback what uh where do you find
3:04
yourself sitting in the immediacy of
3:06
this win um I find myself
3:08
everywhere um I'm very proud of um how
3:12
they reacted and how they
3:14
responded um I'm really happy for them I
3:17
love those kids and the way that they
3:19
persevered through adversity out there
3:22
on the floor and was able to turn this
3:24
around as I said before against a very
3:26
good date
3:27
team um I'm really proud of them I
3:30
really am but I'm also keeping it real
3:34
with them as well as we've got a there's
3:37
areas of consistency and growth that we
3:40
need to move forward with and um those
3:44
are things that we'll talk about we
3:45
talked about after the game and things
3:47
that we'll talk about tonight and
3:48
tomorrow in preparation on playing
3:51
Auburn um super you OB did talk about
3:54
you know the need to you know kind of
3:55
clean things up was there a point in
3:57
that first half where you felt the guys
3:59
just needed to to settle down a bit you
4:01
guys came in you know taking care of the
4:03
ball pretty well you had you were prior
4:05
to this game I think somebody told me
4:07
this I don't know but somebody told me
4:09
that we were number one in the country
4:11
in terms of um not turning the ball over
4:15
okay we flipped it in the in the first
4:16
half okay how many we had 12 turnovers
4:20
for 19 points or I don't know how many
4:22
but that that was uncharacteristic for
4:24
us that that's one of the things that we
4:26
talk about all the time is we talk about
4:28
defense they they shot 51% in the first
4:31
half we talk about rebounding they were
4:33
beating us on the boards and we talk
4:35
about taking care of the basketball so
4:36
in the second half how many turnovers
4:38
did we had we had two turnovers three
4:41
three turnovers then we ended up
4:43
outrebounding them and then we held them
4:45
from 51% in the first half to I think 35
4:48
in the second half you check those three
4:50
boxes you're going to be in every game
4:51
and we're able to do that in the second
4:54
half uh looking at the crowd levels
4:56
today you know UNC was definitely on the
4:58
front with the amount of fans that made
4:59
trip essentially making like a home
5:01
court advantage uh what can you say
5:02
about the tar Hills fan base making uh
5:04
showing you know showing up and making
5:05
this trip well they always show up it
5:07
doesn't matter if it's Maui or Chapel
5:09
Hill or on the road um our fans are
5:13
fantastic and um the encouragement that
5:17
they gave our team when we were down and
5:19
we were coming back um giving us that
5:22
encouragement really helped and having
5:25
that homecourt
5:28
Advantage um from the crowd is something
5:31
that we feed off on and I'm very
5:34
thankful and appreciative of of the
5:37
Carolina fans and the way that they have
5:38
showed up for us here in Maui but also
5:40
in Chapel Hill and everywhere
5:42
else last question and then we to Da
5:46
here Hubert Seth was in here and he said
5:49
that the guys were saying that it's not
5:51
going to be Kansas in terms of a
5:52
comeback that that fall short did you
5:54
feel that sort of level of belief from
5:57
those guys that even though it was 20
5:59
point 21 Point deficit they weren't
6:02
going to let this one not not get there
6:05
well I I don't know if you were here but
6:06
I I told them at I think the 16 minute
6:09
Mark in the second half I said you guys
6:11
aren't making comeback
6:13
plays you're not making the plays to be
6:15
able to come back you're just not you're
6:18
not getting the rebounds you're not
6:19
getting the stops you're not getting the
6:21
loose balls you're not finishing around
6:22
the basket you're not setting the
6:24
screens you're not running the plays
6:26
right you're just not and that switch
6:29
after the 16-minute mark and we just
6:31
started chipping away and um we do have
6:35
that experience of not only coming back
6:39
when we played Kansas but how we did it
6:43
it was just possession by possession and
6:46
I think that gave our guys confidence
6:49
that we could still do it against a
6:51
really good dating
6:53
team thanks coach thanks coach okay
6:56
