it seemed like there was a a more
0:02
concerted effort to get post touches
0:03
today and your guys he that message and
0:06
Ben had some some good moves down there
0:08
what was it like for you to see that
0:09
play out yeah it was great that that's
0:12
been an emphasis for us you know and um
0:15
it felt like we were missing
0:16
opportunities to get our bigs the ball
0:18
close to the basket and I felt I feel
0:21
like if we get it to them close to the
0:24
basket one they can score and number two
0:27
they could get fouled that allow us to
0:29
get into get to the free throw line and
0:31
I just feel like it it'll open us up uh
0:34
our perimeter players and uh just more
0:37
efficient on the offensive end and so
0:39
that's just a start but it it has been
0:41
an emphasis all week uh to not pass up
0:44
and and to get our big guys involved
0:47
close to the basket just to follow up on
0:49
that just to follow up on that real
0:50
quick thank you AJ did you think in some
0:53
time in some games you had gotten a
0:54
little too stagnant on the perimeter
0:56
talking about the post touches and maybe
0:58
more of an emphasis on posting
1:01
well I I don't I don't necessarily know
1:04
that I I you know I today we had you
1:09
know 22 assists I felt like the ball
1:11
just instinctively you know it's like 0.
1:14
five mentality soon as someone caught
1:16
the ball they either passed they either
1:18
drove it or shot it it was
1:21
just there was no hesitation I felt like
1:24
maybe the last three games three or four
1:27
games it um we weren't consistently
1:30
making the extra pass and I felt like
1:32
today we did and so in terms of ball
1:35
movement and um spacing I thought that
1:38
was much better but I thought our just
1:40
um willingness to just instinctively
1:43
quickly just hit the open teammate I
1:45
thought we got back to what we were
1:48
doing at the beginning of the Season
1:49
yeah staying on that RJ and sea said
1:51
part of that was the kick out and
1:53
because the entry stuff was there some
1:55
of the prer guys were a little bit more
1:56
open yeah and a lot of those shots were
1:58
less contested than they had and
2:00
obviously made a higher percentage Yeah
2:01
it is you know I I say to the team all
2:04
the time I want to dominate points in
2:05
the paint through post and
2:07
penetration and until today we really
2:10
hadn't looked at the post and it's
2:13
something that uh that we're going to do
2:15
even more um I just believe in it and I
2:18
believe our guys um can be successful at
2:21
doing it and I thought it was a good
2:23
start today by um um not passing up
2:27
those opportunities and getting J wash
2:29
and and Vin and JB and and Tai um around
2:34
the basket I think the only thing that
2:36
we could do better is shoot free throws
2:37
we missed 12 free throws and we're a
2:40
really good free throw shooting team I
2:42
think going into the game as a team we
2:44
shot 78% and we definitely didn't do
2:46
that today and one of the guys that was
2:48
benefited from some of those kickouts
2:49
obviously was Kade yeah he hadn't hit a
2:51
field goal since Hawaii game he said
2:53
afterward he told us that he'd been a
2:54
little frustrated but he was trying to
2:56
avoid fixating on the frustration
2:57
because it could take him down even
2:58
lower how you seen them kind of work
3:00
through this and what do you think a
3:02
game like this can do for a guy's
3:03
confidence well I you know the the
3:06
biggest thing for Cade is and this is
3:08
for any player there there are ups and
3:11
downs throughout the season they just
3:13
are and you have to you have to stay
3:15
focused you have to stay uh connected to
3:20
um all the fundamentals and all the
3:22
things that you do in order to be to get
3:25
to the point where um you feel confident
3:28
out there on the floor like you know
3:30
it's very easy when things don't go your
3:32
way is to point fingers and make excuses
3:34
and Kate has never done that um he's
3:37
shown up to work every day his
3:38
preparation is fantastic and you know he
3:41
showed up today and played extremely
3:43
well it's not about a shot he's a
3:44
basketball player he can rebound he can
3:45
handle the ball he can pass he can
3:47
defend um being able to stretch the
3:50
floor and shoot from three is one of the
3:52
many things that he can do but his
3:54
ability to shoot at multiple positions
3:56
is a huge benefit for us and it was nice
3:58
to see his shots go into tonight some
4:01
guys referred or you know maybe agreed
4:03
that this is kind of a I guess reset
4:05
game so to speak in the sense that they
4:07
got back to like you said you know uh
4:09
offensive movement with the 22 assists
4:11
and just you know everything like that I
4:13
guess in the week leading up to practice
4:15
what did you kind of observe from them
4:17
like did they seem like you know they
4:19
was a uh like they they played free or
4:22
anything like that just how did You
4:23
observe their I guess approach and play
4:25
and practice that kind of translated to
4:27
obviously the the pre- flowing game we
4:29
play today well I turned up the level of
4:34
me you know and we want primary primary
4:37
if we don't have that get into secondary
4:39
and there's specific lanes and specific
4:41
spots that you need to get into and uh
4:44
there's a job and responsibility out
4:46
there and um there's no more my bad um
4:51
I'll get it the next possession every
4:52
possession counts and so um if you go
4:56
ask the guys one of the things I said
4:58
all the time is Let's Be deep detailed
5:00
in our approach and uh and I told them
5:03
what is detailed in our approach and I
5:05
said you know tying ourselves to the
5:07
Small Things the discipline and details
5:09
that allow us to be successful so
5:11
setting the screens executing uh getting
5:13
to our spots sprting the offense boxing
5:15
out making contact First diving on loose
5:17
balls getting to the free throw line
5:20
making free throws talking on defense
5:22
all those things and so um I turned up
5:25
the level of me at practice so when you
5:28
say you turned up the the level of me
5:30
how quickly do they know that it's
5:32
something else like how quickly do they
5:34
know that
5:35
it's no they don't they know any more
5:39
33s this week I don't know if they go to
5:41
the offensive glass
5:43
no if they do what they' been told and
5:46
taught and talented enough to do
5:49
no anybody
5:51
else we good all right thank
5:55
you there a bike drop for you
