key is diversity we're trying to get our

black and brown kids primarily to get

back into reading because I was a school

teacher for five years in Brownsville

reading levels black and brown kids are

lower yeah than the counterparts white

Indian Chinese and I wanted to find out

why and the kids said because the books

are not about us they're not for us so

why do I want to read about somebody

else's life so that's how the journey

you know we talk about proprietorship

and ownership and but you know we often

have to collaborate with others to get

would probably get rejected by a major

empowering and educating minority kids

helper you know sometimes when we see

thing about literacy that's so important

but they don't know how to process it
