0:49
hey man my my brother i miss you how you
0:52
been
0:53
brother man it is so good to hear your
0:55
voice it's so good to be in a city close
0:58
to you i feel like i can almost feel you
1:00
you know what i mean
1:02
i just want to say congratulations to
1:04
you major major accomplishment major nod
1:08
uh radio hall of fame you you have long
1:11
time been the man
1:12
it's just cool to see you you know what
1:14
i mean when you get your flowers every
1:15
once in a while bruh it is it's so cool
1:19
to watch and you know this is the radio
1:21
hall of fame and i was i was talking
1:23
about it earlier scott because you know
1:25
i worked on tv for the past 21 years
1:29
right
1:30
um and when i came into tv it was after
1:33
already having done 10 years of radio
1:37
so
1:38
and so a lot of folks really thought
1:41
that it all began with mtv
1:43
and uh and yeah and god bless and i
1:46
always say it my experience with mtv the
1:48
legacy i uh been a part of with mtv has
1:51
been golden and it's been unmatched
1:53
radio is the first love
1:55
you know and it's been the longest
1:57
lasting love
1:59
and to be recognized by the hall of fame
2:01
and some of these legends that's in on
2:03
the board and you know i went did the
2:04
acceptance speech last week even though
2:06
we got inducted last year we were able
2:09
to come be a part of the ceremony last
2:11
week
2:11
it was amazing bro i i tell you it was
2:14
uh i'm not one to trip on the accolades
2:17
but that was one that floored me and
2:18
then i got to share it with my daughter
2:20
you've seen my daughter before so yeah
2:22
yeah so it was a
2:24
really amazing man really amazing but
2:25
thank you scott you next come on man you
2:28
next you'll be in somebody's hall of
2:30
fame i don't know
2:33
we're out here
2:34
it is it's so funny that you talk about
2:37
um you know mtv being the the
2:40
not the start of your career but
2:42
certainly how a lot of people came to
2:45
find you first right um if they weren't
2:47
listening to you on the radio before
2:49
that but there's a reason why you became
2:52
why you got to be on
2:54
trl right there's a reason why you
2:55
became a part of the mtv family because
2:58
you were already doing this incredible
3:00
work in music before and you i have told
3:02
you this before but you have been
3:05
uh to me
3:06
a
3:07
always a constant inspiration a constant
3:09
push
3:10
for
3:11
um seeking higher seeking greater
3:14
seeking truer um and so just like i said
3:17
like to see you getting this this
3:18
accolade in particular this one and man
3:21
i smiled so big it was so good
3:24
and thank you thank you for having me
3:25
back on the show brother like it's we
3:27
got to do this in person yeah i know man
3:29
we can
3:30
we keep doing this phone thing but it's
3:32
coming it's coming you know it's real
3:35
soon at this point you know you know how
3:36
it is man it's it's the time that it'll
3:39
be here just around the corner trust me
3:41
we'll be back in the building and seeing
3:43
people in person but i'm not gonna lie
3:45
to you my bad being in the next room oh
3:47
it's hard to shake that
3:51
i know
3:52
it's hard to shake that the other
3:55
some of the other hosts of other shows
3:56
have been like i ain't never going back
3:58
i ain't never going back into an office
3:59
you ain't going to etch me now
4:02
come on man all that sneezing in the
4:04
elevator
4:05
nobody trying to be wrong
4:07
you know but man keep your hands in your
4:09
pockets keep your hands to yourself uh
4:12
hey
4:15
america's big deal sounds amazing i want
4:17
to talk about that people already
4:19
starting to call for it but man you know
4:21
you yourself you yourself you know you
4:23
it's not like you started on you know
4:25
access hollywood you know you've had a
4:27
long career prior to that too you know
4:29
the the things you did with the pacers
4:31
and you know
4:32
all the tv reporting you've done and
4:35
covering the grammys and sporting events
4:37
you know and you know you've done a lot
4:40
for yourself to get to where you are
4:42
you know it's funny we always we we
4:45
i'm working on this show now
4:47
uh uh where we talk about the the long
4:50
road to overnight success right like
4:52
it's it's the thing that we especially
4:54
with social media now we think that once
4:55
a person is popped once they once they
4:57
hit it happened to them relatively
4:59
quickly forgetting or omitting some of
5:02
the details that helped them get or the
5:04
road the years of work that helped them
5:06
get to that point and prepared them to
5:08
capitalize on that opportunity i'm
5:11
telling you uh america's big deal was an
5:14
answer to a prayer like we were sitting
5:16
in
5:17
in quarantine and i was like man i just
5:19
want you know and and it was it was i'm
5:22
gonna be i'm gonna be real with you sway
5:24
and okay i'm not
5:26
i'm not before right
5:28
real talk it was
5:30
weeks after we found out that world of
5:32
dance was not going to be coming back
5:35
at least not for this season you know
5:36
how do you do a dance show with kids
5:39
from all over the world in the middle of
5:41
a pandemic like how do you how do you do
5:43
that right responsibly
5:45
and so it was after getting the news of
5:46
like okay so that show's not coming back
5:48
right now what do you do and i remember
5:50
sitting down and kind of meditating on
5:51
okay i i want the next thing that i work
5:54
on to be a reflection of this energy of
5:57
lifting up small business of helping
6:00
people who have
6:02
managed to survive
6:04
um uh this incredibly unprecedented
6:08
scenario that is a pandemic right uh
6:11
with a small business being able to help
6:13
grant them
6:15
the american dream being able to present
6:18
them with an opportunity to do what they
6:20
do best
6:21
um and allow america invite america to
6:25
be a part of the process of taking their
6:27
their situation to the next level and so
6:30
when
6:31
uh joy's office joy mangano the woman
6:34
you know the miracle mop right that
6:36
america is she's paid
6:38
hey
6:39
uh jennifer lawrence played her and won
6:41
a golden globe for playing her in her
6:43
move in a movie about her life i
6:45
interviewed joy
6:46
years ago uh in in promotion for that
6:49
movie and we're we just had this great
6:51
vibe
6:52
and so when i got a call from her office
6:54
that they were working on the show
6:56
and looking at a host
6:58
um i i went in kind of pitching myself
7:01
they came into the meeting kind of
7:02
pitching me the show and so i remember
7:04
getting off the call and being like okay
7:06
so wait
7:07
i don't know how that went and my agents
7:09
were like what do you mean you're not
7:10
that when they they want you like
7:14
and so i just i remember kind of
7:15
scratching my head and being like in awe
7:18
of how
7:19
life can work out in a way when you
7:21
remain consistent and you remain
7:24
prayerful and you remain
7:26
true to yourself how things can kind of
7:28
work out because the my dream
7:31
in that effort was really actually
7:33
coming true and so america's big deal is
7:36
all about every episode we've got four
7:38
entrepreneurs that pitch their product
7:40
to america and i heard you talk about
7:42
shark tank is it is it is similar to
7:44
shark tank and that we have
7:46
entrepreneurs and that we have a panel
7:48
that's pretty much it okay right that's
7:50
pretty much it we are we are a live
7:53
television show every week and so the
7:56
the four entrepreneurs get to pitch
7:58
their product to america they it's a
8:00
product that you have and that you have
8:02
already sold it's not an idea that you
8:04
have it's not like a concept or a um uh
8:07
uh what's it called the your first run
8:10
like you've perfected it this is what it
8:11
is and this is how it's going right and
8:13
so so
8:15
just to be clear the product is already
8:16
on the market it's just small business
8:18
products already
8:20
yep okay it's already on the market it's
8:22
not a a concept that you have or an idea
8:26
that you think could go if you could
8:27
just find a manufacturer it's something
8:29
you have already sold
8:31
potentially thousands of units of
8:32
hundreds of units of right something
8:34
that you just need to go to the next
8:35
level and so
8:37
you're you then get an opportunity to
8:39
pitch your
8:40
uh to tell your story uh to america and
8:42
then to pitch your product hard sell for
8:45
two minutes you get two minutes to sell
8:46
your product to america and these really
8:49
over the top really uh creative um uh
8:52
scenarios right
8:54
and then
8:56
america
8:57
gets to buy your product in real time
9:01
if you're killing your pitch and you're
9:02
like listen this is why you need this
9:04
and you're demonstrating the the joy
9:06
always says the the features and the
9:07
benefits of your product your your your
9:09
killing your your pitch america is
9:12
buying it in real time and the the
9:14
entrepreneur who sells the most
9:17
not only gets to keep the money that
9:20
they
9:21
sell
9:22
right or that they earn but they then
9:24
get to stand in front of a
9:26
retail titan panel of
9:29
lowe's
9:31
macy's and qvc and hsn wow who then say
9:35
we believe in you so much that we want a
9:37
purchase order and every the the offer
9:40
is at least a hundred thousand dollars
9:42
or more in our last episode it was two
9:44
hundred thousand dollars and the the the
9:47
titans our retail panel were outbidding
9:50
each other like it was a bidding war in
9:53
live television over this uh this
9:56
couple's product
9:57
this five in one chair
9:59
like it was like a it was like a lever
10:01
it was a chair it was a beach chair it
10:03
was a i mean it was a tent it was an
10:05
airplane it was an automobile i mean
10:06
that basically
10:08
wow
10:09
200 000 yeah right there in that minute
10:12
so let me let me get this straight first
10:14
of all and
10:16
this is so aligned with what we do here
10:18
on this show we got a segment we do
10:20
called sway chats it's like ted chats
10:22
but you just get a minute to pitch your
10:23
thing it's a lot of what i found scott
10:26
is uh uh what we found is through the
10:29
because of the quarantine as an effect
10:31
of the uh
10:32
quarantine
10:33
and people losing work and people losing
10:36
jobs or being laid off a lot of folks
10:38
picked up their entrepreneurial spirit
10:41
and start creating side hustles those
10:43
side hustles became the main hustle
10:46
and so i i want
10:48
i'm sure you guys have like droves of
10:51
people who are who try to um submit an
10:54
audition for this show how does that
10:56
process work
10:58
thousands we had thousands of people the
11:00
the the abd team scoured the country for
11:03
weeks looking for products that were
11:05
again
11:06
um market already on the market not
11:09
market ready but already on the market
11:11
because again you have to be able to
11:13
fulfill like let's say you get on the
11:16
show you need to be able to fulfill at
11:18
minimum um for the participation the
11:20
participation of the show you need to be
11:22
able to fulfill i believe it's a 30 000
11:25
minimum order just to be on the show and
11:28
then you need to be if if you get a deal
11:31
that's worth two hundred thousand
11:33
dollars like this couple did uh last
11:35
episode you need to be able to fulfill
11:36
that order right and so if it's all
11:39
happening in the basement and it's all
11:41
in boxes in the basement if you can't
11:43
fulfill the 200 000 order this might it
11:45
might not be ready yet you know what i'm
11:47
saying and i certainly don't say that as
11:49
a mean to discourage anybody but but if
11:52
anything to dig deeper and figure out
11:54
how you can you know in what is in you
11:57
within your own resources um to help
12:00
take things to the next level to help
12:02
cement
12:03
uh your product and your offering um in
12:05
the marketplace
12:07
what i'll also tell you is that the the
12:10
really cool thing about this show is
12:11
that you know the i was nervous about
12:14
america being the the
12:17
kind of
12:18
key
12:19
into this this this dream that we're
12:21
helping grant every week right so it's
12:23
the the american viewer is the the um
12:26
the voter so to speak
12:28
the first episode was a black woman
12:30
the second episode was a black woman
12:33
the third episode of our latest episode
12:36
were two white women who were married
12:39
together okay yeah each other
12:41
and so
12:42
it is it's it's saying to me that like
12:45
the product is king
12:47
yeah the product is coming we believe
12:49
it's if we if we believe in this thing
12:52
and and
12:53
and believe in uh
12:55
what you're selling we're down
12:58
we're down and in a major major way you
13:01
know what i mean okay so it's not saying
13:03
no men allowed to you that at all i mean
13:05
you know you just
13:06
[Laughter]
13:09
said something different to me scott
13:13
basically what i'm hearing is uh this is
13:15
a man's game
13:17
no i know i'm joking there'll be plenty
13:18
of men everywhere on tv so that's that's
13:21
never a problem this is awesome exactly
13:24
um
13:25
i want to go back because you i got
13:27
people calling right now if you call
13:29
carlin carlin i'ma come to you always
13:31
say your name wrong adrian vinshan i'ma
13:34
come to you there's a lot of lines
13:35
lighting up
13:36
let's go back to we got time okay
13:39
people
13:41
uh i'm on the show
13:42
all right i'm on america's big deal i'm
13:44
pitching my product for example me and
13:47
big horse heather's husband have a uh a
13:50
line called bridge business
13:52
b-i-z-n-e-s-s
13:54
it's closed it's it's merch uh but in
13:57
that merch you got sneakers you got all
13:58
this you know all sorts of stuff we do
14:01
donations to cancer research all sorts
14:03
of hoodies
14:04
and so i'm you know horse is on you know
14:07
he's running the line so horses on
14:10
america's big deal and he's pitching it
14:11
and he's talking about some of the
14:13
charities that the monies the funding is
14:15
going to while he's pitching it
14:19
in real time people could be purchasing
14:21
this purchasing
14:23
bridge business product right
14:25
and
14:26
america's big deal doesn't take a cut of
14:28
any of it
14:30
so here's here's what i'll tell you i
14:32
what i what i know for sure is that
14:35
joy's entire perspective on this show
14:38
the entire purpose of this show was to
14:41
lift up small business right okay was to
14:43
be a champion of small business now what
14:47
whenever when you break down who gets a
14:49
cut of what i could not tell you that
14:51
specifically but what i can tell you is
14:54
that for
14:56
from the very beginning from the outset
14:58
of this show the the the whole intention
15:02
has been to provide
15:04
entrepreneurs with the opportunity that
15:06
joy mangano had when she stood in on
15:09
that uh in that studio and sold her mop
15:12
for the very first time right that she
15:14
knew that she had a product that she
15:16
believed in that would change the way
15:18
that people would uh uh uh operate how
15:21
they would clean how they would uh move
15:23
through
15:24
this particular chore and their uh uh
15:27
house and that their life as a result of
15:29
that would be made better
15:31
her whole deal
15:33
is that
15:34
how do i mimic
15:36
how do i recreate that experience week
15:39
after week after week and what i can
15:41
tell you is that these people are
15:43
afforded an opportunity these
15:44
entrepreneurs these individuals these
15:47
teams these families
15:49
are afforded an opportunity
15:51
that you could not
15:53
you just simply couldn't get anywhere
15:55
else even at a trade show even at a
15:58
trade show where you are prominently
16:00
featured you're not going to have the
16:02
opportunity to sell
16:04
to
16:05
all of america and then
16:08
stand in front of macy's blows qvc and
16:12
hsn and allow them to not only give you
16:16
constructive feedback right um but also
16:20
offer
16:21
a a life-changing amount of money as a
16:24
purchase order right the other thing
16:27
that this show really does well is it
16:29
allows people to see
16:31
um it gives lows qvc and hsn and qvc uh
16:34
in particular an opportunity to see in
16:37
real time what america thinks about a
16:41
product right so we had for example we
16:43
had a a gentleman on the very first show
16:46
who had created a grip for a phone i
16:49
think also one of the things that is is
16:51
key about the products and the the
16:53
people that we have on the show is that
16:55
they have found some way to innovate
16:58
uh an offering that exists already they
17:01
found some way to change or alter
17:03
something in such a way that your life
17:05
is made that it totally changes the
17:07
thing right so he what he created was a
17:10
phone case
17:11
um and a grip so he calls it the spider
17:14
grip and
17:16
wrestlers he had wrestlers like wwe
17:20
style wrestlers wrestling in
17:22
on stage holding their phone in his
17:25
spider grip and nobody dropped their
17:27
phone right
17:29
so like it was like it was wild it was
17:32
the very first pitch of the show it was
17:34
crazy and i remember when i saw it in
17:35
rehearsal i was like this is
17:37
this is wild like this is this is not
17:39
something you've ever seen on tv before
17:41
but then
17:43
my my other thought was but who's gonna
17:46
buy this on tv like who is going to
17:48
see this phone grip and be or this phone
17:51
case and be like yeah that's what i want
17:52
bruh he's he he
17:54
before the end of the night he sold out
17:57
what would it sell out like when you
17:59
sell out like how many like if roughly
18:01
did he how many orders did he get
18:04
and so that's the thing so do you have
18:05
to be able to fulfill a minimum of
18:07
thirty thousand dollar oil okay all
18:09
right um he he sold thirty thousand
18:11
dollars with the product with under an
18:14
hour
18:15
an under hour this is a i love it
18:17
america's big deal thursdays 9 p.m on
18:19
usa network
18:21
um
18:22
radical differentiation we talk about
18:24
that a lot on this show what is what
18:26
makes your product different what makes
18:27
what you do stand out we both could be
18:30
selling wristbands but mine might have
18:32
fluorescent colors on it that have some
18:34
type of messaging on it that appeals
18:37
more than yours what is that
18:38
differentiation uh scott scott scott
18:41
scott evans is with us ladies and
18:43
gentlemen um i'm opening up these phone
18:45
lines man this guy right here man
18:47
we ain't did a red carpet in a while bro
18:49
come on
18:53
we got that
18:55
okay wait wait it's so funny you talk
18:58
about the a radical differentiation i
19:00
think one of the things also that
19:01
difference differentiates this show from
19:04
other shows that you've seen is that
19:06
this is not an investment in your
19:07
company and they want stake in it they
19:09
want they want part of the ownership
19:11
this is a this is an investment in you
19:13
this is a purchase order it's i believe
19:15
in you i believe in this product and i
19:17
want to help take your your your company
19:19
to the next level but but i want you to
19:22
own your company and all of your company
19:24
i just want to give you a place to sell
19:26
it you know what i mean that's not
19:28
something you've seen on tv before not
19:29
at all and then there's no losing in
19:31
this scenario like there's no
19:34
you do the pitch and then none of the
19:35
experts buy into it and you just walk
19:38
away you know with the same thing you
19:40
know you might have gotten some exposure
19:41
though like there's plenty of pictures
19:43
that didn't got
19:44
that that weren't invested in on other
19:46
shows that people got the good exposure
19:48
but this this is just this is like a
19:51
this is like a diving board for you you
19:53
know what i mean
19:55
to whatever the next level is look i got
19:57
a bunch of callers scott i gotta i want
19:59
to get to him kendra is on the line from
20:01
georgia kendria grand rises
20:03
hey grand rising i'm just so excited
20:07
right now hey sway hey you doing kendra
20:11
thank you thank you good
20:13
i i'm so glad um i was driving back from
20:16
atlanta and i was on the phone and i got
20:19
the phone just in time because i have
20:21
i'm in a pitch competition
20:24
coming up uh in a couple of days that i
20:26
have to turn in a pitch video so the
20:28
question i have for scott is
20:30
with me i
20:31
i am one of those black women that
20:34
i'm a hair stylist by profession i've
20:36
been one for over 20 years and the
20:39
pandemic head i shut down but just
20:41
before the pandemic on november 19 i
20:43
started a side gig
20:45
of hosting bingo which is um my spin on
20:50
the game though which i credit myself
20:52
for making it so exciting so um
20:56
how
20:56
would i i've had a really tough time
21:00
trying to pitch it in the beginning i
21:02
had a tough time trying to pitch it
21:03
because it's not a product it's a
21:06
service
21:07
so
21:08
how
21:08
would someone um like me
21:11
uh
21:12
well
21:13
go about pitching a service to someone
21:16
versus a product to sell
21:18
yep yep i'm totally with you so here so
21:21
here's what i one i would say con
21:24
i i am excited and proud for you of you
21:27
that in this time you were able to to
21:30
kind of dig deep pivot and figure out
21:32
what else can i offer what else can i do
21:35
and that this while it may seem like for
21:37
some people like okay closer she's
21:38
playing bingo like you're also sewing
21:41
this kind of energy
21:43
this renewal of energy into people's
21:45
lives you know allowing them a moment an
21:48
opportunity to either escape some of the
21:51
the the mess that might be surrounding
21:53
them but also lifting their spirits
21:55
right so i think that the thing that
21:56
would be most dynamic is you've got to
21:58
figure out a way to capture the energy
22:01
that you say that you
22:03
um generate in this experience i think
22:05
that you want to think about video
22:08
and you want to think about
22:10
video storytelling and social media
22:12
right i think you want to capitalize on
22:14
the your unique offering but in order to
22:17
do that people need to see it i think
22:19
you also need to protect though the way
22:21
that you the way that you um show it
22:25
so that you're not giving away
22:26
necessarily i don't know maybe a trade
22:28
secret or and that's what i'm learning
22:31
about
22:32
yeah that's what i was really most
22:34
afraid of because i felt like i exposed
22:36
myself to um just expose myself because
22:39
people they'll see it they like oh my
22:41
god that's so creative how did you come
22:42
up with that they're questioning you
22:45
know
22:46
it feels like they're questioning you
22:48
know my
22:49
i don't know just if they're not
22:51
that they're trying to they're trying to
22:53
ask you how did you come up with that so
22:55
they can learn how to do it themselves
22:57
so
22:58
what's this up and so you've got to
23:00
figure out how to you've got to figure
23:01
out how to how to
23:04
um present
23:05
the dish without giving up the recipe
23:08
which means somehow you know you you may
23:11
interact with the people who are um in
23:14
attendance and talk about how exciting
23:16
it is for them and
23:18
how often they look forward to it you
23:19
may want to capture um on social media
23:22
and in video
23:23
formats the the the way that you promote
23:27
um uh your event you may want to also
23:30
capture in video and on social media
23:33
people who have formed either teams or
23:36
connections as a result of coming to
23:39
your event or or participating in your
23:42
service you know what i mean i think you
23:44
also have to you also have to and i
23:46
would ask that you pray about this you
23:48
meditate on this you think about it on
23:49
your own but you also have to wrap your
23:51
mind around i know this is going to
23:53
sound crazy
23:55
that if this is a if this is truly
23:58
you
23:59
there is always more where this comes
24:01
from that you can't be so afraid to
24:04
share or to um you can't be you can't
24:07
become so afraid or so attached to this
24:10
one thing that you aren't
24:12
you don't free yourself enough
24:15
to share it
24:16
in in ways that help promote it that
24:18
help build it that help grow it right
24:21
and so you've got to you've got to
24:22
figure out one
24:25
what are some of the other ideas that
24:26
you have how you can implement them to
24:29
maybe even sweeten this thing a little
24:30
bit more right
24:33
but also how you can trust
24:36
the source of this thing
24:37
for you is so real that regardless of
24:40
who tries to do it that
24:44
it ain't you it ain't the same
24:46
that if it's not your service it's not
24:49
the same and that this is the one you
24:51
want because this is the one that
24:52
changes it all you know what i'm saying
24:54
you gotta believe you gotta trust you
24:56
gotta know
24:57
that's how i'm selling it exactly so
25:00
keep moving in that posting restaurants
25:02
and bars and it's doing good you know
25:05
with
25:05
bringing them business
25:07
and i'm thankful that i have the
25:09
opportunity to do it because i know at
25:11
one point i was laughed at you know um
25:14
just for mentioning that i want to start
25:17
it you know as a business because i
25:19
really enjoy the game itself but um
25:23
it's just so i would i was so i would
25:25
sort out i would sort out very
25:26
specifically i would sort out your story
25:29
how how you came to be a person who was
25:31
facilitating this particular game right
25:34
i would talk about um the impact that it
25:36
has made for businesses and for people
25:38
who participate i would capture the
25:40
energy the essence the the some behind
25:43
the scenes of like you in action why
25:46
this is so dynamic why you are the one
25:49
right and then i would i would uh
25:52
include your request
25:54
like you know what what part what thing
25:57
what little what little hinge would help
26:00
swing this thing in in a much larger and
26:02
a much wider direction and then take it
26:04
from there it sounds like you've got the
26:06
energy it sounds like you've got um the
26:09
idea and now it's just about uh uh the
26:11
way that you tell the story
26:13
wow man this guy scott evans man he's
26:16
everything guy ain't he kendra
26:20
yes you know what i uh i called a couple
26:23
weeks ago uh i was one of those people
26:24
that really didn't care for you too much
26:26
i was so shallow i was young i was a
26:29
teenager
26:31
back in the 90s and i was like oh i just
26:34
don't like play you know i don't know
26:36
what it was
26:39
i love you you're awesome you have just
26:43
i i was late i was like what was i
26:45
thinking i don't know who i thought i
26:46
was then um but i know i appreciate you
26:50
now more than ever your show is so
26:53
inspirational it really does like i'm so
26:56
glad you took that song off like when
26:58
you did that rewind when that too short
27:00
song came out oh my god i was like
27:02
look at him just you know
27:04
just yeah
27:12
yes let me let me say this too and i
27:14
appreciate that you know you could i i
27:16
you get scott probably received it too i
27:18
don't know you never know how people
27:20
receive you when when you actually you
27:22
probably i don't know if you saw me on
27:24
tv or whatever or whatever the
27:25
circumstances i was in
27:27
uh but it i appreciate you hanging in
27:30
there and giving me a shot to like me
27:32
kendria i was going to add too
27:36
thank you uh
27:38
i was going to add too as scott was
27:40
talking i was thinking about magicians
27:42
right like david copperfield or david
27:44
blaine or chris angel or whoever houdini
27:47
pin to tell her they all do magic right
27:50
but they all do something different with
27:52
it
27:53
you know and so even if somebody tries
27:56
to take what it is that you bring to the
27:58
table
27:59
they can't they can't bring you to the
28:01
table you know keep that in mind all
28:03
right always keep that in mind and then
28:05
you have other ways you can utilize this
28:08
it doesn't even have to be at a club
28:10
or at bingo hall you can approach
28:12
corporations who do um um employee
28:15
building you know something some people
28:16
going on retreats you know and this gang
28:19
can find ways to bring people together
28:21
you could kind of tweak the bingo game
28:23
itself you know there's so many
28:25
different ways you could present this
28:27
kendriya and you know what when you
28:28
first start calling
28:30
i will say this i didn't know if i liked
28:32
you either but after the day
28:38
after the day kendriya i really like you
28:41
okay you're sick
28:45
you're a citizen all right
28:47
my whole thing is completely okay the
28:49
people in georgia
28:51
they know me convivio means friendly
28:53
lively and enjoyable and bingo is bing
28:56
go is the extra g for the games in
28:58
between so i'm just
29:02
you were really delighted my my day and
29:04
lifting my spirits um i'm glad that it's
29:07
all in timing and it's just you know you
29:10
just got to keep pushing forward and
29:11
believing in yourself
29:12
absolutely
29:14
thank you absolutely and thank you thank
29:16
you kendra i appreciate your honesty and
29:18
that's how we rock all right you're a
29:19
citizen super citizen super citizen all
29:22
right uh oh doughby
29:25
yes sir um
29:27
did you did you want to say hi to scott
29:29
i forgot you know i didn't mean to hug
29:31
the camera you forgot i was here no i
29:33
mean
29:35
yeah okay i forgot
29:41
yeah just a quick question um you know
29:43
you guys were joking about like doing
29:45
red carpets and you know the in person
29:47
uh working together uh stuff that you
29:49
know revolves around television and
29:51
journalism and radio and that sort of
29:52
thing um
29:54
sway you've often talked about having to
29:57
i guess coach people that were new to
29:59
the red carpet um when you were doing
30:01
you know the
30:02
vmas and all these other uh big shows uh
30:06
scott did you have to coach joy uh with
30:09
you know doing tv hosting i mean she
30:11
seems pretty natural but i mean
30:13
you never know what goes on behind the
30:14
scenes sometimes people can be nervous
30:16
and then when the lights come on it's
30:17
like oh you know deer and
30:18
headlights kind of thing so did you have
30:22
no man she's been working on live tv
30:24
since the very beginning you know what i
30:26
mean and and she works on shows that
30:28
last you know three hours four hours it
30:30
can sometimes
30:31
be in the middle of the night into the
30:33
wee hours of the morning she needed no
30:34
coaching when it came to live tv um she
30:38
also isn't the kind of person she is the
30:40
kind of person that understands how high
30:41
the stakes are and she is the kind of
30:43
person that also wants this to be a
30:46
moment in time you know we we have a we
30:48
share a prayer before every episode um
30:52
and i hope that she's okay with me
30:53
sharing this with you but we share a
30:54
prayer before the the beginning of every
30:56
episode that we are
30:58
uh
30:59
that we remain a reflection of the light
31:01
that has been shown to us in our lives
31:04
and that our purest intention is not to
31:07
make moments but to allow them
31:10
to be up uh to be vessels of
31:14
um
31:15
dreams being granted to people who
31:18
deserve and believe that the work
31:20
was always going to bring this kind of
31:23
experience to themselves not just for
31:25
themselves but also for their families
31:26
and communities around and so
31:29
after we share that
31:31
at the beginning of the show everything
31:34
else no like
31:36
not trying to be funny everything else
31:37
is easy
31:39
um
31:40
you know what it's like to be on a live
31:42
broadcast it's like being shot out of a
31:44
canon like the time flies but but by the
31:47
time we've done
31:49
or the time by the time we have moved
31:50
beyond the hello of the show into the
31:54
final act which is the america's big
31:56
deal like them accepting a a big offer
31:58
from one of these heavyweights in
32:00
industry
32:02
it feels like 10 minutes has passed
32:04
right
32:05
yeah it's been a whole it's been a whole
32:06
hour in fact in our second show we
32:08
actually went over
32:10
um three minutes because there was just
32:12
so much happening in that final act so
32:15
yeah man she didn't need any coaching
32:17
from me not at all not at all she's got
32:19
it she's got it huh yeah uh miracle mop
32:23
all right we got
32:24
yeah she's been she's been doing this
32:27
huh uh let's go to new orleans we got
32:29
carlin on the line grand rises how you
32:31
doing
32:32
grand rises
32:34
can you hear me okay yep yep indeed did
32:37
i say it correctly this time did i say
32:39
it correctly and that's what i wanted
32:40
that's what i wanted to tell kendra keep
32:42
pushing and even they'll learn how to
32:44
say your name correctly you just gotta
32:46
keep pushing
32:48
and i miss
32:50
today
32:51
are getting that straight and scott i
32:54
know every time you come on yes yes keep
32:57
laughing this way uh scott every time
32:59
you come on to get a master's class from
33:01
this man i know it must give you chills
33:04
because just hearing you two interact i
33:07
see you as that student looking at the
33:10
master teacher and i commend you for you
33:14
going up the ranks towards receiving
33:17
that same statehood so to speak in
33:20
everything that you've done i want to
33:21
commend you and you look so good
33:24
when i was watching world of dance i'm
33:26
looking at what you got on with jlo got
33:28
on i'm looking at what everybody has on
33:30
your teeth and it's just beautiful to
33:33
see my brown brothers and sisters just
33:36
keep climbing these ladders in this
33:38
crazy business that y'all call show
33:40
and especially with kendra going back to
33:43
help her with the adult bingo just like
33:45
sway said you need to be approaching
33:47
those liquor distribution companies that
33:50
have the events got the girls with the
33:53
bottles popping they need to give you
33:55
some money to also do those games so you
33:57
know you know i'm here to help the
33:59
people as well but i commend you scott
34:01
on this show because i love the fact
34:04
that unlike like unlike shark tank if
34:07
you're not selling right then and
34:08
they're almost you know which is why i'm
34:10
glad you have qvc because if you're not
34:12
selling right then and there then you
34:13
know you got to go back to the drawing
34:14
board if you're not showing that your
34:17
recipe as we talked about with kendra
34:19
that your recipe is worth me continuing
34:22
to come back to your dookie chase then
34:24
we know that we can't even come to your
34:26
restaurant so it's just things like that
34:28
that people have that people get to see
34:30
from watching this show and to see the
34:33
folks when they sell out is just amazing
34:36
because i know that's how i am with qbc
34:38
it's like they tell you how many left
34:41
you got this time get this or it's gone
34:43
but i would also think in the background
34:46
the shadow of it all that somebody like
34:49
damon john is looking to be an angel
34:51
investor and watching us and seeing who
34:53
he can come and piggyback
34:55
good point of course
34:57
i'm gonna leave you with that nugget
34:58
right there and i thank you all and i
35:00
love y'all it's way got my name right
35:02
come on carlin come on
35:07
that was all doing my food
35:09
[Laughter]
35:10
carolyn baby you have the wrong number
35:12
she would hang up oh your mama gangster
35:16
like tell her i said hey name because if
35:18
you're not telling them your name
35:20
correctly then you're doing something
35:21
wrong there it is come on tell them
35:25
and now you know me boo come on i got it
35:27
right today damn it uh carla you have a
35:30
beautiful day thank you and you always
35:32
keep us with a gym
35:33
i i take notice that's why i take your
35:36
calls
35:39
okay have a beautiful day you know your
35:41
citizen
35:43
that's way in the morning oh man hey uh
35:45
how much time you got
35:48
i got about i got about seven more
35:50
minutes before i got to be on a another
35:52
call but but i do want to tell you this
35:55
way and and i want to and
35:57
she brought it up and it's it's like
35:59
it's
36:00
i can't not let you know you know what i
36:02
mean i remember
36:04
watching sitting down to watch um trl
36:07
and seeing you on stage um holding that
36:11
mtv microphone with that live audience
36:14
behind you and the the time square in
36:16
the the windows behind you and just
36:18
believing that
36:20
and this this is the kind of stuff that
36:23
makes me emotional every time i think
36:24
about it because it's like i i know
36:28
i know that the reason i'm sitting here
36:32
able to talk about this incredible show
36:34
that i'm working on now and and this
36:36
new opportunity that nbc
36:39
uh nbc and universal has given me with
36:41
this overall and first look deal that
36:44
i'm here because i was able to believe i
36:47
should be
36:48
or could be because you already were
36:52
right
36:53
seeing you stand there with that
36:54
microphone in authority belonging
36:58
allowed me to dream to dare to dream
37:01
enough long enough to work toward it and
37:04
so now to have been kind of granted
37:06
these what feel like a unique set of
37:09
keys by nbc tv and universal uh with
37:13
this deal beyond the television show as
37:17
a person they're saying bring us more
37:19
stories bring us more characters bring
37:22
us more of you because we believe in you
37:27
i know that that only happened because i
37:29
could look to see you
37:31
in the first place and so you know i i
37:34
try to make sure that you know that
37:36
every time that we interact but there
37:37
was something about her energy that like
37:40
i got emotional man it's just like it's
37:42
a really cool
37:43
it's a really cool thing
37:45
oh scott man thank you man uh listen
37:48
brother i appreciate it and
37:50
you know folks say i don't take the
37:52
flowers enough i do take them i just
37:54
absorb them differently and i really
37:56
appreciate it man and i can relate to it
37:58
because there's been people
38:00
that
38:01
gave me the audacity as well and i was
38:04
talking about
38:05
you know like donnie simpson um don
38:08
cornelius
38:09
you know a lot of these folks gave me
38:11
the audacity to to do what you're saying
38:14
uh in the same way that
38:16
i might have spurred your your audacity
38:18
and so i'm a little shaken up right now
38:20
scott you got me wavering right now i'm
38:22
teared up right now but i appreciate it
38:24
but let me tell you how this works too
38:26
because i watch you on access hollywood
38:28
now and i'll watch you on world of dance
38:31
and it's it's it comes full circle
38:34
you know what i mean so it's almost like
38:36
reciprocity because i'm feeding off of
38:39
you too
38:40
so it goes both ways it's a two-way
38:42
street and i've always
38:45
i've always been conscious of that i've
38:47
always been aware of that you know some
38:49
you know it's tit for tat you know it's
38:52
ying and yang it's pity pat and so the
38:55
same energy you may may have received
38:57
from me it might have been a little
38:58
different though because being on mtv at
39:00
that time was really rare
39:02
and i was in a whole nother mindset man
39:06
i was in a whole nother mindset and i
39:08
wanted to do my purpose for being on mtv
39:12
was to do
39:13
exactly what you just said
39:16
to inspire scott evans and scott evans
39:20
in
39:21
in in all around the world and
39:24
i'm trying to think of a female version
39:26
of scott
39:27
scotia evans all around the world you
39:29
know women and men all around the world
39:32
black women and men
39:33
uh
39:34
women and men of color that are that you
39:36
don't see in these places that where it
39:38
wasn't a whole lot of representation
39:41
that's what that was for man so i
39:42
appreciate you saying it thank you scott
39:44
thank you brother
39:46
yeah man we out here baby we out here
39:48
one more call though you said seven
39:49
minutes just two minutes left sean go
39:51
ahead real quick shawn and austin go
39:53
ahead sean
39:55
hey swayze um good grand rising to
39:57
everybody uh grand rises
40:00
absolutely well hold up let me say who
40:02
this is let me let me let me hold up
40:04
sean hold on this this is a this is let
40:06
me be totally transparent this is a
40:08
friend of mine okay from dmv arms
40:12
that i talk about often and sean's
40:14
mother
40:15
if you ever smell me
40:18
and you look at my skin and you think i
40:20
smell good and my skin is clean it's
40:22
because of his mom
40:25
okay
40:26
all right i appreciate that and that's
40:28
hey why i'm calling this morning
40:30
i'm not trying to plug the envy arms i'm
40:32
here for mom um oh sweet business owner
40:36
um
40:37
she has a soap store in north carolina
40:39
she has some challenges because she's a
40:41
senior citizen she's a retired educator
40:43
dedicated her life to education she's um
40:46
actually started a public library back
40:49
in our hometown of garysburg north
40:50
carolina you've never heard of because
40:52
it's super small but
40:54
she's always giving back
40:56
but we live we're from an area where we
40:58
don't have the
41:00
technology to support small business
41:02
where i'm from
41:03
where i grew up in the house that we lit
41:05
that she may have been
41:07
the fastest internet we can get is too
41:09
meg
41:11
let that sink in
41:12
that's and it's 65 a month so she's very
41:15
disadvantaged when it comes to trying to
41:17
host this online business so it's a
41:19
family business
41:20
i run the
41:22
the website my older brother who lives
41:24
close to her does the logistics for her
41:26
so she he prints off the labels takes to
41:29
her house and she fulfills the order so
41:31
it's a it's a whole process me in texas
41:33
given north carolina
41:35
but right that's way going to test she
41:37
has a great product
41:39
and i would like to get her soap product
41:41
out there to the masses um the name of
41:43
her store is national sense aromatherapy
41:46
and
41:48
we try to get sway something new
41:50
every few months you know try this way
41:52
once you see how you like it and the
41:54
feedback has been great so
41:56
what what would you suggest for
41:59
you know a small business like this that
42:01
has those technology
42:03
constraints because of where we're from
42:06
okay so i'm gonna i'm gonna tell you
42:08
this and this is in this i don't want
42:09
you to take this as um
42:12
a bad thing i just want you to take it
42:14
as a challenge that you've got you've
42:16
got to figure out how to overcome
42:18
this your story is not unique
42:22
and what i mean by that is not that it
42:25
isn't important and that it isn't
42:27
part of what makes what you do
42:30
special or good or better than others
42:35
but you've got to figure out a way to
42:37
tell that story right to reach more and
42:41
more people and it in and the the part
42:44
about the story to me that that struck
42:46
me was that this is a family business in
42:48
a family effort that has identified we
42:51
are all we got
42:52
right
42:54
and so
42:54
figuring out a way
42:56
beyond the the um
42:59
internet connection or the dial-up
43:02
quality or or what have you figuring out
43:05
a way
43:06
to capture
43:07
the elements of your story the
43:09
components of your story and the product
43:12
and positioning it in a way that is as
43:15
true
43:16
as possible so that because it is not
43:18
this um uh
43:21
terribly unique first time ever heard
43:23
kind of scenario that people who other
43:26
people who can identify it with it will
43:28
believe in you or invest in you or
43:31
support you because they see themselves
43:33
in you right and so finding a way to
43:36
connect with all of these other kind of
43:40
not just mom and pop
43:43
or small small family small business
43:45
endeavors but people who are in it
43:48
with each other for each other right
43:52
finding ways to connect with them to
43:54
build them maybe there's a maybe there's
43:56
a way um uh uh in your region or in your
43:59
area in your community to create a
44:01
collective so that you and and and your
44:04
family cover um
44:07
the the products for
44:09
uh skin care um uh
44:12
and apothecary you know uh
44:15
offerings someone else does um baked
44:18
goods or um
44:21
scarves and garments someone else does
44:24
uh sunglasses and right and this is this
44:27
is the family collective right all of
44:30
these families have come together with
44:31
the products that they've created
44:33
together to sell together to offer to
44:35
you
44:36
and maybe it's a box that could be sent
44:38
then um a subscription box that could be
44:41
sent and you know you talk about
44:43
offering sway something different every
44:45
couple months and the response has been
44:47
great how do you recreate that that
44:50
experience for people across the country
44:52
maybe even around the world you know
44:54
what i mean
44:55
um
44:56
that's that would be my first approach
44:58
not necessarily abandoning or changing
45:00
what you what you do how you do but how
45:02
can you incorporate more resources more
45:05
people in a way that is still true to
45:08
each and everybody's uh vision and dream
45:11
but that you can then create a box
45:14
uh that covers everything
45:18
maybe that's the name of the box we got
45:19
you covered
45:20
oh oh oh oh oh
45:22
i like that
45:23
you better trademark it
45:26
hey sean
45:27
say your mom's name sean
45:30
my mom is i'm dr beverly
45:33
dr beverly
45:35
underdo u-n-d-e-r-d-e
45:39
underdo
45:40
okay um
45:42
dr bev man send my love to her tell her
45:44
the bath salt uh i think kelly kakade
45:47
has the bath salt
45:49
so i'll i'll give you feedback on that
45:51
and then i'll use the soap every single
45:53
day and they're pretty too um
45:55
that was that was great conversation was
45:58
it
45:59
say that again
46:01
strange text conversation when i asked
46:03
you about that bathtub that was
46:04
different that was different like he
46:06
said a message my mom wants to know do
46:08
you
46:09
do you bathe or something like that like
46:12
it was like a
46:14
crazy question
46:17
my mom wants to know do you take baths
46:19
or showers
46:21
i don't care she's like not something i
46:23
want to ask him i don't want to ask him
46:24
does he take a bath that's right
46:31
oh man i love you mom tell her i said hi
46:33
and uh and and
46:35
