the news that affects you Mike Ms with
0:03
the political news on Sway in the
0:06
Morning Shade 45 here we go man KLA
0:09
Harris VP KLA Harris has been in the
0:11
news Mike Muse she has big decisions to
0:13
make uh she's been receiving all type of
0:17
responses but she has bigger things to
0:19
worry about right now and one of which
0:21
is picking a running mate right yeah
0:24
where is she right now so vice president
0:27
kamla Harris has made announcements that
0:30
by tomorrow we will know who her running
0:33
mate is and she has indicated that her
0:36
running mate would show up with her uh
0:39
at a campaign rally that is going to be
0:41
held in Philadelphia Pennsylvania so
0:44
from now until tomorrow we can be
0:47
expecting announcement anytime soon or
0:49
if they are able to keep it under wraps
0:52
uh we might not wait and we might not
0:54
know until uh they they actually walk
0:56
out together that's what used to happen
0:58
in traditional days AP and audience you
1:00
guys always hear me talk about President
1:02
versus unprecedented and during
1:05
traditional campaign times you know
1:07
think Obama and McCain like we often
1:10
didn't know until the moment of who the
1:12
VP was until they were walking out um
1:15
and what makes this situation so unique
1:17
is that she replaced President Biden at
1:21
the top of the ticket and so when he
1:24
replaced President Biden at the top of
1:25
the ticket we were roughly maybe like
1:28
115 120 days out um from November's
1:31
election and so now we are less than 100
1:34
days out and she needs to pick her
1:36
running mate this
1:37
usually happens in a much more extended
1:40
window because normally what we do is
1:43
you have your vetting team and so you
1:45
hire us a law firm or consulting firm
1:48
that would vet potential vice
1:49
presidential nominees because what you
1:51
want to make sure is this old adage of
1:54
uh Do no harm with your vice president's
1:56
election so you don't want anything in
1:58
that vice president's um history
2:00
to come up that could be a negative on
2:02
the campaign or that becomes a
2:04
distraction for the campaign and so the
2:06
fact that she has less than 100 days is
2:08
quite the challenge to go through these
2:11
candidates history and I mean we're
2:12
talking history uh you want to know
2:14
about their personal life their
2:15
childhood their schooling their
2:18
viewpoints I mean you go back and look
2:19
at articles and essays that they've
2:21
written in college all that kind of
2:22
comes up um and where we are right now
2:25
is that the field seems to be narrowed
2:27
down to four to approximately three the
2:31
three that she met with over the weekend
2:33
um is Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona
2:36
senator uh excuse me Senator um excuse
2:40
me Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona
2:42
governor Tim watts of Minnesota um and
2:45
then Governor Shapiro of Pennsylvania so
2:47
those three seem to be in the lead in
2:50
what how she's thinking about this is
2:53
going to be from a couple of different
2:54
ways so if you look at Senator Kelly he
2:58
comes from Arizona Arizona is an
3:00
important Battleground State uh for any
3:02
president democrat or republican in
3:04
order for them to win and Arizona is a
3:06
border state the challenge with that is
3:09
if she does pick uh Senator Kelly border
3:12
and immigration becomes a a a issue that
3:15
the Republicans see as her vulnerability
3:17
okay but on the flip side having him
3:20
could strengthen uh where the
3:22
Republicans see that as vulnerability
3:23
and that could prove to be her strength
3:26
the other part of say to Mar Kelly is
3:27
that he also has a moderate coalition
3:30
of women um and also to he's a former
3:32
astronaut so that moderate ring of the
3:35
democratic base can kind of come
3:36
together for him the other one is really
3:38
interesting uh is really Governor Tim
3:40
Waltz of Minnesota uh the challenge with
3:44
uh Governor uh Waltz is that he isn't a
3:47
household name a lot of people don't
3:48
know him but his strength is the rural
3:51
community and so the
3:53
rural Coalition that he can speak to um
3:57
throughout the country it'll be really
3:59
good for her to have someone like that
4:01
also to the fact that he is the head of
4:03
the Democratic governor Association
4:04
which is key for the governors to help
4:06
rally uh campaign support as she's
4:08
trying to create a 50-state campaign the
4:11
other selection is going to be Governor
4:13
Shapiro uh a lot of individuals believe
4:16
that he is the leading candidate and
4:18
that's because he comes from the great
4:20
state of Pennsylvania and no matter
4:22
you're Republican or Democrat you have
4:24
to win Pennsylvania if you want to win
4:26
the White House if you don't win
4:27
Pennsylvania you're more than likely are
4:28
not going to win the white White House
4:30
or I should say it changes your options
4:32
to get to electorial college that you
4:34
need in order to secure that Advantage
4:36
the challenge though with Shiro is that
4:38
he is a very popular governor in the
4:40
state um and so if you do you remove him
4:42
from um the governor's mansion in
4:45
particular the state legislature in
4:46
Pennsylvania split and so you have the
4:49
Republicans control the Upper House of
4:51
the state legislature and the Democrats
4:52
control the lower house and so if you
4:54
remove him you run a special election
4:56
the Democrats have a vulnerability of
4:58
losing a Democrat at the top for the
4:59
ticket and so those are the three that's
5:01
in con uh contingent but Governor
5:04
Shapiro can also too help her um in
5:06
other Battleground states too as well
5:08
it's important to note that she really
5:10
is beefing up her campaign Team U last
5:13
week got announced that she hired former
5:15
president Barack Obama's campaign
5:17
manager David Pluff and so David Pluff
5:19
is now handling the strategy for the
5:22
Battleground States and so it makes it
5:24
really really interesting to figure out
5:26
where we are now there could be a
5:27
sleeper we're just not aware of uh
5:29
secretary P Buddha is also kind of in
5:31
the conversation in the mix and also to
5:33
um she's no longer in the mix but
5:35
Governor Whitmer is in the mix but the
5:36
reason I bring that up um sway because
5:38
where you were going earlier about
5:39
people leading into her identity yeah
5:41
the idea that we're still in America and
5:43
we had to have this conversation of a
5:45
white man needs to be her running mate
5:48
that just let you know that we're not
5:50
where we are in America in terms of
5:53
progress we made a lot of strides but
5:55
the fact that you can't even have the
5:57
conversation of should two women be at
5:59
the top of the ticket because amongst
6:01
the Democratic party Governor Whitmer of
6:04
Michigan is very popular and beloved but
6:06
there was conversation like there's no
6:08
way there could be two women on the
6:10
ticket also to there's a lot of other
6:12
potentials like Governor West Moore of
6:13
Maryland but the conversation came up
6:15
there's you can't have two black people
6:17
at the top of the ticket so really it
6:19
leads me to secretary Pete budet right
6:21
who's an openly gay man um the Democrats
6:24
are like secretary budha jet because
6:27
he's a strong Communicator in particular
6:28
like he goes on cable news networks and
6:30
really defends the Democratic policy and
6:31
strategies he's a military vet a mayor
6:34
of a red State and also two serves
6:36
administrations a secretary
6:38
Transportation but the fact that he's
6:39
openly gay married to openly gay man
6:42
that question begs America would never
6:44
vote for a woman of color and a gay man
6:47
and so I think this gives us the bar
6:49
barometer of where we are in America in
6:52
terms of how much progress have we
6:53
really had Mike mes thank you for that
6:55
update man give it up for Mike mes and
6:57
if folks want to continue this
6:58
conversation find out more about the
7:00
facts hit up Mike Muse directly yo I am
7:03
Mike Muse MN and Twitter and Instagram
7:05
and let me know who you want your picks
7:07
to be and we would know soon enough
7:08
between now and tomorrow
