USA the United States of
0:09
America natural
0:11
export one of the few comes from a
0:15
culture that we have deemed hip hop and
0:18
in this culture it's been able to do
0:20
something that religion has not been
0:22
able to do that politics has not been
0:25
able to do it's been able to Galvanize
0:29
people from from all over the world from
0:32

0:36
France from America from South America
0:40
from Germany from the Netherlands and
0:43
Unison in peace right and and
0:48
understanding and empathy through this
0:51
dance that we know from this hip-hop
0:54
culture that's been in existence they
0:56
say 50 years plus I say even longer than
0:59
that if you Trace back the history to
1:01
some of the African tribes that were
1:02
already attempting and doing some of the
1:05
moves that we've adapted into hip-hop
1:07
culture today and deemed them something
1:09
else this young man who's with us
1:12
today in the spirit of some of the
1:14
Legends one of my favorite B boys of all
1:17
time goes by the name of whiz Tech AKA
1:20
King Tech from the group fly namic Force
1:22
out of Northern California that would
1:24
battle people like Aki star who all we
1:26
know as octaviano from the Renegade
1:29
Rockets in Northern California that's my
1:32
partner King Tech who started B boying
1:34
on the perer 39 in San Francisco battle
1:37
people like Rock Steady Crew Crazy Legs
1:40
Prince Ken Swift used to stay at my
1:42
house in the 90s when Jam On the Groove
1:46
was a thing I'm showing off Heather when
1:48
Jam On the Groove was a thing and so
1:50
I've had this
1:51
Affinity this love because I've seen the
1:54
greatness that this culture has been
1:56
able to do through breaking and years
1:59
years ago we had a chance to go to what
2:02
city was it Heather be we were in
2:04
Orlando Florida you remember what year
2:06
that was wow maybe
2:11
20145 somewhere around there yeah 2014
2:13
2015 up was the last time we saw five
2:16
dog absolutely from Tribe Called Quest
2:19
perform before his untimely demise right
2:23
and in that same moment we saw Phenom a
2:27
young man skinny at that time
2:30
sliced up like a human action figure
2:32
though didn't expect much from him
2:35
because he was so young but he came into
2:37
that competition and blew us away fast
2:40
forward 10 years later I bump into this
2:43
man in Oakland California um during
2:46
another event with cross one shout out
2:48
to cross one my brother we all started
2:50
in this thing together and saw him as a
2:53
grown man and and at that point he told
2:55
me he was going to the Olympics and I
2:58
could have cried and I've been talking
2:59
about M say he's been in the promos for
3:02
the Olympics he's um represented us for
3:04
the Olympics the country of United
3:06
States of America and he brought home
3:08
the bronze I couldn't be more proud he
3:10
gave um B boying and breaking a a
3:14
international stamp of respectability I
3:17
want to welcome him to the show the one
3:19
and Allie my little bro I'm giving him
3:21
little brother little brother give up
3:22
for b boy
3:25
Victor theal finally theal olymp
3:30
the matter brought it
3:35
back hip hop baby yeah hipop did it hip
3:39
hop got Olympic medal something back you
3:42
the first wow the first ever American
3:45
ever breaking medalists to bring it back
3:49
to America thir bro to us
3:51
congratulations that's true you wow
3:54
thank you congratulations man yeah right
3:57
how does that I know it's hard to proc
4:00
but the first ever the history books in
4:02
100 years will have your name in it yeah
4:06
and it's just so awesome to represent
4:08
hip-hop culture and to bring hip-hop
4:10
culture at at the Olympics you know yeah
4:12
and
4:13
it's yeah it's it's so surreal I'm still
4:16
like in shock like wow I I brought it
4:19
back I bought something back bronze you
4:21
know yeah that's amazing great feeling
4:23
and yeah I just thank y'all for just
4:25
having me here like I appreciate it
4:28
absolutely was it emotional for you um
4:31
we we sit and watch at home the metal
4:33
ceremony and you know a lot of times we
4:36
see the emotion on athletes and and I'm
4:39
calling you an athlete you know but we
4:40
see the emotion but we don't get to hear
4:43
from them directly afterwards all the
4:45
time but was it emotional for you
4:47
standing up there and receiving that
4:49
metal when it was placed around your
4:50
neck you know I still haven't had time
4:52
to process it because I've just been all
4:54
over the place um but yeah it's just
4:57
like super emotional to definitely have
5:00
my family behind me you know supporting
5:02
me and also like people from all around
5:05
the world just like showing me love and
5:07
and now watching Breaking something I
5:09
love and now people get to experience
5:12
that and there's a younger generation
5:14
that now wants to dance which is awesome
5:17
hell yeah I remember you were the
5:18
younger generation you still are young
5:21
bro that was cute but I get it I know
5:23
what you mean those are younger than you
5:26
D still in his 20s um who are some of
5:29
the legends that you grew up idolizing
5:32
that have reached out some of the
5:33
Legends all right um of course Rock
5:36
Steady Dynamic rockers let's see B boy
5:40
KL k um there's a lot to name there's
5:44
also like a bunch of like European
5:46
legends that I looked up morito yeah
5:49
yeah there's there's too many people to
5:51
name but those are a couple who called
5:52
you and said congratulations you did it
5:54
for the culture anybody talked to you
5:56
yet uh not yet I haven't had time my DM
5:59
are like flooded right now so I've been
6:02
trying to just like you know just focus
6:04
on myself because it's been so
6:06
overwhelming but um yeah a lot of people
6:09
have congratulated me how did you make
6:11
it to the Olympics what was the process
6:13
we we've been having all of these
6:14
conversations on how did people actually
6:16
get there how did you go through the
6:18
trials how many times did you have to
6:20
win what was the crer the process was
6:22
really long we had um the World Series
6:25
which was like six events six olympic
6:28
qualifying events I had had to uh go
6:30
through that and then you know gain my
6:33
points from those series um but the way
6:36
I got into the Olympics was winning one
6:38
of the world championships was which got
6:40
me the ticket straight into the Olympics
6:42
so they have like the Continental
6:44
championships that get you straight into
6:46
the Olympics and then they got the World
6:47
Series where you accumulate points to
6:50
then compete in the uh two last
6:52
qualifying series which was like two
6:55
months before the Olympics so if we
6:57
liken this to let's say tennis has their
7:00
grand slams they have Wimbleton right
7:02
the US Open um what the french um
7:06
uh the one that happens in France with
7:10
the dirt Court those are Grand Slams are
7:13
there Grand Slam equivalents and
7:15
breaking like you win a world
7:17
competition or yeah Grand Slam
7:19
equivalence uh Red Bull bc1 World
7:21
Championship um that's the ones I've
7:24
hosted constantly yall see all right
7:27
okay my bad yeah so those are the main
7:28
ones those are the
7:31
okay when you were younger Vic um did
7:34
you always see yourself as an athlete
7:36
and I asked this because considering the
7:39
Journey of getting breaking into the
7:42
Olympics and dance as a whole I find
7:45
that a lot of folks have had trouble
7:48
with embracing it as athleticism as a
7:52
sport did that ever impact how you saw
7:55
your own sports slart did you have a a a
7:58
Time as you journeyed along where you're
8:00
like nah I am an athlete or did you
8:02
always see that from day one I see it as
8:04
both so I see it like I'm an artist
8:07
because we are artists we're bringing
8:08
our own individ individuality into the
8:11
dance and our own self-expression but if
8:14
you look up um athlete competition you
8:17
know uh well if you look up yeah yeah
8:20
yeah like being an athlete it's about
8:22
being super competitive and it's about
8:24
like undermining your opponent and being
8:26
the best of the best at what you do and
8:28
that's what breaking is all about you
8:30
know when it first started like instead
8:32
of fighting you know instead of like
8:34
killing each other we're dancing we're
8:36
settling it out with dancing and
8:38
competing and showing who's the best of
8:40
the best so that's why I'm saying like
8:42
it can also be um a sport but you are
8:46
also an artist yeah B boy Victor is here
8:48
he represented the United States in the
8:50
breaking competition first ever Olympic
8:52
breaking competition yeah along that
8:55
thought Victor I'm just curious about
8:56
the mental pressure right we always talk
8:59
about Olympian athlete is mostly about
9:01
mental fortitude and so I'm curious
9:04
where a lot of athletes have to not just
9:06
represent for themselves and family and
9:08
all the hard work of all their of their
9:09
lifetime of practicing but also too for
9:12
America but I feel like breaking was a
9:13
little bit different I felt like you had
9:14
to represent for yourself and your
9:15
family but you also had to represent for
9:17
America but then you also to had to
9:19
represent for culture because this is
9:21
one of those Olympic sports that was
9:23
started here in the US and we've seen
9:26
strong Global competition in the sense
9:28
of where they've been able to master the
9:29
art form and so did you feel that added
9:32
pressure of representing the culture of
9:34
where the country had started from no I
9:36
didn't feel no pressure at all like I
9:38
was enjoying the moment like honestly um
9:41
I was so happy for all of us because
9:43
we're all in this together all of the
9:45
top 16 B girls all of the top 16 B boys
9:47
and I remember I was going up against
9:49
hero 10 and the crowd was going crazy
9:52
and I even was going crazy because I was
9:54
like yeah this is for the culture this
9:56
is for us you know so I just wanted
9:59
people to see what breaking is all about
10:01
you know they have all these
10:02
misconceptions and stereotypes and it's
10:04
like no it's evolved you know it's like
10:07
it's uh it's more refined wow wow B boy
10:10
Victor is here man I keep saying his
10:12
name learn his name yes like you would a
10:15
gimness like you know Noah lios like you
10:18
know Simone BOS he is that to Breaking
10:22
yes learn his name b boy
10:24
Victor one of the biggest problems is
10:27
how breaking is marketed
10:29
to the mainstream to the masses and so
10:32
it creates a lot of confusion um it
10:35
creates a a whole lot of
10:37
misunderstandings and misinterpretations
10:39
in and to the detriment of the
10:41
culture uh in in the case of this uh
10:44
young lady b boy a b girl ray gun from a
10:48
um where Australia Australia yeah and
10:50
this clip that went viral of her and
10:52
people
10:54
lazily you know appointing that to the
10:57
culture as a whole like is this what
10:59
breaking is about a yeah because they
11:02
see this one preliminary round of
11:04
someone we're not even sure how she got
11:06
that far yeah but she does not full her
11:09
spirit perhaps I don't know her
11:11
represents the Hip Hop Spirit of wanting
11:13
to learn and be a part of something but
11:16
that skill set does not represent we're
11:19
breaking how far has come how far has
11:21
evolved and I think we're been we've
11:23
been lazy as journalists as U
11:26
correspondence media people to only talk
11:28
about that yeah M right and not get
11:31
behind the culture as a whole were y'all
11:34
even hearing about this over there about
11:36
this girl going viral and what are your
11:38
thoughts now that you know yeah so she
11:40
went pretty viral her um the be Girl
11:42
event was on the 9th and the B boys were
11:44
on the 10th so when it was our turn she
11:46
was going viral you know but we didn't
11:48
pay no mind to it and uh now it's all
11:51
over the place you know and uh like to
11:53
me honestly any type of publicity is
11:56
good publicity and uh I was like
11:59
scrolling through the comments in my
12:00
battles and a lot of people are like yo
12:03
I came here because of ray guns and now
12:05
I'm like tuning into breaking like this
12:07
is the best thing ever you know because
12:09
now they're watching all of the
12:11
competitors so um I saw at least like
12:14
hundreds of comments like that so it's
12:16
it's also a good thing because now
12:18
people are tuning in into breaking and
12:20
they're seeing like like the people that
12:22
won the gold the people that won the
12:24
bronze and they're like what like yo
12:26
this is so sick like now I'm super
12:28
invested into it
12:29
so it's a really cool thing yo I like
12:32
that response hey man yeah right I like
12:36
that response man positive yeah and I
12:38
agree with with what both of y'all said
12:39
and I think the biggest problem I had
12:41
was like okay if you want to criticize
12:43
you you're entitled to your opinion but
12:44
just add something positive to the
12:46
conversation you know what I mean like
12:47
don't just focus on what you don't like
12:49
about her performance or what you think
12:51
about the clip like let's let's look at
12:53
the other performers and let's add
12:54
something to that conversation yeah
12:56
right well said Victor yes indeed wow
12:59
yeah I just realized we saw you in 2015
13:02
I just went back to look we watched you
13:04
yeah it was 2015 201 that's crazy when
13:08
you think about it what do you do um
13:13
from 2015 to now to stay in shape to be
13:17
in that Olympic space when you find out
13:19
oh my gosh this thing that I love so
13:21
passionately like I love MC you know
13:24
what what do you do to stay in sh to get
13:27
to get to this point for all the younger
13:29
generation that's watching now with the
13:31
Olympics coming to LA in four years man
13:34
do you compete as much as possible what
13:35
do you do it's just staying consistent
13:38
and staying true to yourself so it's
13:40
staying consistent staying true to
13:42
yourself and also Reinventing yourself
13:44
throughout the years you know it's like
13:46
it's it's like rapping you know there's
13:48
all these different eras and uh you got
13:51
to just keep on Reinventing yourself
13:53
just how Snoop did you know he's he's he
13:55
just keeps on Reinventing himself he's
13:59
always on it so it's it's the same thing
14:00
with breaking how big was it to have
14:03
Snoop kick off the breaking competition
14:05
man were people going bonkers it was
14:07
awesome it's like I got chills it's like
14:09
wow like we did not expect Snoop to be
14:12
there and just for him to show up and
14:14
show love to Breaking because we all are
14:16
part of hip-hop it was a really cool
14:18
feeling yeah we all are part of hip-hop
14:21
yeah yeah and see that's what I want
14:23
people to understand that b boy Victor
14:26
right Snoop Jazzy Jeff mhm you know
14:30
we're all a part of Hip Hop whatever
14:33
graph writer you want to put in there
14:35
it's all a part of hip-hop B boy Victor
14:38
is here 888 742 3345 lift the lift the
14:42
uh the metal up a little bit yes okay so
14:45
the man that won the men's competition
14:48
name is Phil Wizard and he's from Canada
14:51
right Canada to Canada he he's great
14:54
he's great sick yes right and then you
14:57
you went up up up against um uh Danny
15:00
Dan yeah in the semis and he was from
15:02
France he was from France yeah you knew
15:04
what was going to happen you could
15:07
have you could have floated in the air
15:09
and did all your combinations elevated
15:12
yeah yeah the crowd was going wild for
15:14
him yeah it's like all French crowd yeah
15:17
but it was a great competition you was
15:18
going so let me ask when you compete
15:21
that much in that many rounds how many
15:23
of it is routine and how much of it is
15:26
improv or do you have combinations that
15:28
you say for certain rounds yeah so um it
15:31
really depends like you got to
15:33
strategize so I have like about 15
15:36
signatures because you're supposed to
15:37
have at least 15 strong rounds
15:40
throughout the battle and each round has
15:42
to be different so you got to bring your
15:43
own creativity which makes it even
15:45
tougher and on top of that you got to be
15:48
onto the music you know you got to be on
15:50
beat um but yeah it's it's really
15:53
difficult and for me I try to adapt in
15:55
the moment I try to improvise a bit but
15:58
I also have like my routine that I do
16:00
you know and sometimes I forget it so
16:03
you got to you know you have those
16:05
spontaneous moments that just happen out
16:07
of nowhere you know you just go off a
16:08
feeling and you forget what you're doing
16:10
but your body's just taking you to like
16:13
a different dimension which is so cool
16:15
yeah
16:18
man do you eat anything fried like
16:21
what's your diet like H to be honest I
16:24
just try to eat clean but there's times
16:25
where you know like after competition I
16:28
just eat whatever I want I go all out
16:30
but yeah I just try to stay clean clean
16:32
considering the optimism that you
16:34
represent and you we can tell with ease
16:37
that you have such a kind heart the
16:39
competitive nature of breaking is there
16:43
any
16:44
talking definitely definitely like when
16:47
I'm in a battle I'm thinking I'm the
16:48
best you know I'm not saying it but in
16:50
my head I'm saying it and I'm there to
16:53
win you know I'm there to win and that's
16:56
what it's all about but after the
16:57
competition show love you know we show
17:00
love and it's like all right I got you
17:02
next time you know but during the
17:04
competition y'all be on each
17:06
other especially if you repeat a move
17:08
you know that's the second time he did
17:10
that move and then I think a lot of
17:12
people don't like if you come up on
17:14
somebody and they you know they motion
17:17
around your face or they might even
17:18
touch you people think well why why
17:20
doesn't that end up in the fight but
17:22
that's a part of it all right yeah yeah
17:23
it's called Burns so it's just burning
17:25
your opponent it's like basically you're
17:27
just dissing them mhm yeah yeah and uh
17:30
let's talk about some of the
17:31
combinations but I'm GNA take some of
17:32
the callers George is on the line for
17:34
Florida go ahead George what up George
17:37
George
17:39
George George did your phone break sound
17:42
like they went dead on your end oh my
17:44
God I'm so sorry so sorry hello hello
17:46
hey I'm so sorry B boy Victor it's
17:48
amazing to be in the line with you sway
17:50
you guys are all amazing Heather G Pani
17:52
Tracy everybody y shouts out to all you
17:55
guys first of all good morning God bless
17:58
you all it's a beautiful
18:00
day uh I'm so sorry about that but B boy
18:03
Victor question for you hello yes yes
18:06
sir yes oh so sorry sorry um question
18:09
man uh you did amazing in the Olympics
18:12
you know uh you did really good against
18:15
like Japan when you went against hero 10
18:18
um what inspired you to do some of those
18:20
moves because I know you just said it a
18:22
little while ago how like sometimes you
18:23
may lose Rhythm and focus or whatever
18:25
and then like you know you just kind of
18:26
like like uh you know just kind of it in
18:29
a way but um it's hard to tell if you
18:32
did any of that like during any of your
18:34
routines but is there like a go-to move
18:37
that you go to or like like have like in
18:39
your back pocket or something like that
18:41
like if you ever find yourself in a
18:43
situation like that oh man yeah um
18:47
there's a couple go-to moves that I uh
18:49
that I do like some of my signatures but
18:52
honestly it's just going off a feeling
18:54
so like for me I'm so used to just
18:56
adapting in the moment and it's like I
18:58
can bring something just out of nowhere
19:00
you know depending on the moment so most
19:03
of it is spontaneous but I do have like
19:05
my sets that I know are like are gonna
19:08
do good and the crowd's going to go
19:09
crazy all right hey thanks for your call
19:11
bro you're a citizen George Jordan is in
19:14
Delaware go ahead Jordan hey Jordan hey
19:17
how y'all doing thank y'all for
19:18
welcoming back uh congratulations to uh
19:21
B boy Victor um I want to say uh you
19:24
were a great representation of hip-hop
19:25
you make me feel like I was a kid again
19:27
never in a million years that I think
19:29
I'd see some of the hip-hop songs played
19:31
like red man and metham man uh and you
19:33
did a great job and I know as a viewer
19:35
you you uh you weren't able to see it
19:37
but as a viewer um they ran a story
19:39
about how you got in the B boy and one
19:42
of the things talked about your father I
19:43
think and how he was in a metal band and
19:46
I wanted you to expound upon that a
19:47
little bit because uh I thought it was a
19:49
really cool uh story that was
19:51
told yeah yeah so um yeah I was
19:54
surrounded uh around like heavy metal
19:56
music and uh my dad was a breaker back
19:58
in the day my dad and his twin brother
20:00
they used to break back in Mexico so
20:02
they're inspired by like beat street
20:04
they're inspired by the movie Breaking
20:05
and basically they they like um they
20:09
exposed us to Breaking you know because
20:11
it's something that they used to do but
20:12
they were also in a heavy metal band so
20:15
you know I was always in the Arts and um
20:19
yeah yeah it was amazing wow hey man
20:21
thank you for your call Jordan uh two
20:23
things I want to ask I know you guys
20:24
have to uh cut out
20:26
um what kind of conversations were being
20:29
had with the B boys and B girls shout
20:32
out to um um B girl Army first of all
20:35
from Japan be girl na na I think she's
20:39
from Lithuania I'm not yep right um were
20:43
there did did did the did the community
20:45
come together and say okay we're all
20:47
here moving forward because there always
20:50
a struggle with that culture you know
20:52
getting exposure getting the type of
20:54
support the funding you know you know
20:56
even especially in the states the most
20:58
ironic place of them all was there a a
21:01
gathering of sorts to say moving forward
21:03
how can we work together in promoting
21:05
this culture pushing it Forward
21:08
marketing with ourselves you know so we
21:10
don't have to rely on other people to
21:12
bring exposure necessarily did y'all
21:14
have those kind of meetups or did you uh
21:16
no we haven't had those kind of meetups
21:18
but I know um Red Bull is like helping
21:22
us with that you know they've been in
21:24
the breaking culture for a very long
21:26
time they're the ones that through like
21:28
the first ever breaking event you know
21:30
so um they're the one like steering
21:32
breaking into the right path and just
21:34
showing what breaking is really about
21:37
salute the Red Bull man that flown me
21:39
all over the world hosting bc1
21:41
competitions in Germany the Netherlands
21:44
keeping it alive yeah and is there still
21:46
a chance it can make it to the games in
21:48
2028 um no so uh we already knew that it
21:51
wasn't going to make it into 2028 like a
21:53
couple months back you know but honestly
21:55
it's like we were just so focused on
21:57
2024 we wanted to represent and we're
22:00
just so grateful that we're like we were
22:02
part of the Olympics you know and
22:03
hopefully it comes back 2032 in austral
22:06
in Australia and yeah I'm sure ray gun
22:09
helped that happen she
22:11
better bring attention to the sport
22:14
better hey you over there teaching you
22:16
better make sure it go breaking is in
22:18
that um Australian Olympics right but
22:21
people don't realize that that vote was
22:23
made I want to say in 2023 even yeah
22:25
that vote was made way before they even
22:27
start breaking yeah so people it wasn't
22:30
because of anything you saw from this
22:32
competition that's not why the uh B boy
22:35
the breaking competition isn't in the LA
22:37
Olympics the committee decided that last
22:40
year right yeah um moving forward man
22:44
what's up with b boy Victor what's
22:46
happening next what's happening next so
22:48
um I'm like I'm in the best shape ever I
22:50
got a couple more competitions coming up
22:53
honestly like now I'm just trying to
22:55
get talk your just trying to get
22:58
ready but yeah now I'm just trying to
23:00
focus on other things you know just
23:01
giving back to the community hopefully
23:03
throwing an event myself you know just
23:06
to show what what breaking is all about
23:08
and what hip hop is all about and um uh
23:11
yeah like you know maybe creating like a
23:13
little breaking Studio calisthenics Park
23:17
in my city my hometown CMI you know for
23:19
the kids there because the newer
23:21
generation is is is important for
23:23
breaking you know they're the ones that
23:25
are next and they're the ones that are
23:26
going to keep this this art form going
23:29
so that's that's what I'm focusing on
23:31
right now yo your media training is on
23:34
point who got this who did this to this
23:36
guy man it's like amazing full sentences
23:38
and everything and knows when to stop a
23:41
sentence saw your own media training
23:44
Campo have you been made any uh offers
23:46
to do any movies or being in any films
23:48
you're a beautiful guy I thought maybe
23:50
they might get at you uh no not yet no
23:52
no yo this dude would make a great like
23:55
action figure like in a Marvel mcja
23:57
turtle break into that industry right he
24:01
could break break into that
24:03
industry we'll
24:07
see Victor all right man B boy Victor
24:11
brother um congratulations thank you you
24:14
did it for the country you did it for
24:15
the world most you did it for yourself
24:18
your family but you did it for the
24:20
culture who you got in the room with
24:22
you I got my manager Red Bull lean Rock
24:26
d DJ breaker
24:29
and I got my uh comms comm's team right
24:31
there communication did he say what the
24:34
hell is he's trained we met before yeah
24:38
you remember
24:40
where which
24:44
one he was there that's what we met okay
24:47
now iron yeah that's what we met we
24:49
brought up five dog this for the
24:51
listeners so we always talk about this
24:52
TV we brought up five performing there
24:55
yeah there you go you got a picture of
24:56
us let me bring that over and then a
24:58

25:00

25:03
