that voice right there man that voice
0:03
now at that time when he said that had a
0:06
certain degree of value Mike musees
0:09
since he said that that degree of value
0:12
has gone 10x and it's not even a
0:14
monetary thing when you able do your
0:17
craft to impact people spiritually and
0:20
on land on their heart uh you can't put
0:23
a value to that and that's what this man
0:25
has effectively done for years I've been
0:29
to the parties before y'all knew who he
0:31
was H you know what I mean I was at
0:33
those parties you know whatever uh event
0:36
that he was hosting you know whether was
0:38
the MTV Video Music Awards I was at
0:41
those parties those Grammy party Awards
0:43
I was at those parties the inauguration
0:46
of Barack Obama I was at those parties
0:49
I've seen this man's growth and it did
0:52
me proud to see him actually create a
0:55
platform and I say this with um most
0:58
authenticity and and sincerity that has
1:01
served as medicine for a lot of people
1:04
for the onlookers who ever get to
1:05
witness Pastor Mike just on a screen at
1:08
first on a even small screen on a on on
1:11
your phones and then to watch it on TV
1:14
but now you could watch it in person uh
1:16
this man has been a doctor to us and not
1:19
only to us but to some of those artists
1:20
that have been able to perform some of
1:22
those artists uh was sitting on the
1:25
sideline um why being overlooked not
1:28
being recognized for songs that they
1:30
created that we party to every single
1:32
day that have been the soundtrack of our
1:34
lives but we weren't investing in those
1:37
particular artists A lot of those
1:38
artists who made those big songs don't
1:40
always have it good in real life because
1:43
of whatever Deals they may have cut um
1:45
but because of this man creating this
1:48
platform there's been a lot of artists
1:50
that we hadn't heard from for a long
1:52
time that are now touring because of him
1:56
uh that are now making a living because
1:58
of him uh and they're now being
2:01
recognized properly because of him and
2:03
to me I I say man your your legacy is
2:05
cemented in this game brother youve done
2:07
a lot of excellent work and the work
2:09
continues as we celebrate the one and
2:11
only DJ Cassidy is hanging out with us
2:14
today in Greensboro North
2:17
Carolina Friday February 9th in Houston
2:20
Texas Saturday February 9th the one and
2:23
only DJ Cassidy's Pastor Mike is coming
2:26
to you and he's here with us right now
2:29
DJ
2:30
is in the flesh good morning good
2:32
morning good morning
2:34
sway sway first of all thank you once
2:37
again for having me you have been a
2:41
tremendous friend and supporter over the
2:43
years before that mindboggling
2:46
introduction a little clip of an
2:48
interview played yeah that brought me
2:51
back wow I believe 10 years I think we
2:55
did that interview in person in
2:58
2013 yeah when
3:01
I um first produced and released my own
3:05
music MH and um certainly so much has
3:08
happened over the past 10 years but your
3:11
introduction
3:13
alone has made me somewhat speechless
3:16
and I'm usually a man of many words but
3:19
I I mean this when I say
3:23
it with my utmost um sincerity and
3:28
appreciation
3:31
um I'm I'm I'm um somewhat Blown Away by
3:36
your introduction um um I think first
3:39
and foremost I don't deserve the word
3:42
legendary to be anywhere near my name um
3:46
but but I'm extremely grateful that um
3:50
someone of your stature in hip hop and
3:53
R&B coach or would even think to utter
3:56
that word next to my name I I hold
3:59
Legends
4:00
on the highest pedestal and um so much
4:04
of my career and
4:07
life has been dedicated towards the
4:10
celebration of Legends towards the
4:13
celebration of my musical
4:18
Heroes when I was a 10-year-old DJ M my
4:23
parents bought me turntables for my 10th
4:25
birthday MH all I ever dreamed about was
4:29
for my favorite rappers to know my name
4:33
if you'd have told me that trch would
4:35
know who I was wow BR I could have died
4:38
a happy
4:40
kid and so to think that so many of not
4:44
only my favorite rappers but nearly all
4:46
my musical Heroes now know my name um is
4:51
just the greatest blessing and um I told
4:54
you I think before we even started this
4:57
interview when you came to get me in the
4:59
waiting room room that I held you on
5:01
that pedestal that I admired you because
5:03
I was your fan long before you ever knew
5:06
my name so I just wanted to uh to say
5:09
all this before we even begin the
5:10
conversation I appreciate more than you
5:12
know thank you for having me it really
5:14
is an honor to be here you are the
5:17
legend but I'm truly flattered by the
5:20
introduction yo thank you man hey man I
5:22
appreciate that was amazing I feel like
5:24
I got an intro right there that's how
5:25
you receive flowers man oh come on man
5:27
absolutely Hey listen and I understand
5:30
that that's and I appreciate that
5:32
humility I got a legend next to you
5:34
Juggernaut in it a icon I call him
5:36
iconic for what he's done and whenever I
5:38
compliment him or or or say his story
5:42
through the lens I see it in he he
5:45
doesn't you know it's it's not for you
5:47
to say yeah right it's for others to say
5:51
how they perceive you to be I've seen
5:53
Legends before they would consider
5:55
Legends and knew they would become
5:57
Legends I got a legend gauge
6:00
[Laughter]
6:02
I could tell you I could tell you going
6:04
to be a legend before you know you're
6:05
going to be a legend sways Legend radar
6:08
I'm Legend radar and so with Battlecat
6:11
he knows I he doesn't say he's probably
6:14
Battlecat has been a
6:16
cohesiveness of La Southern California
6:18
hip hop on many levels that doesn't even
6:22
reach the surface that people don't even
6:24
realize how he's kept things aligned but
6:27
not to mention his skill set is of elite
6:29
DJ turntablist mixer blender uh uh uh
6:34
how how everything under the sun when it
6:36
comes to DJing and I think the same of
6:39
you and reason why man you what you do
6:43
is uh selfless you know you reached out
6:48
to so many Legends and gave Brownstone
6:51
who's reaching out to Brownstone right
6:53
now right after seven who was reaching
6:56
out to them when you brought uh uh new
6:59
add B Biv Devo when you brought Bobby
7:02
Brown when you brought TR and all these
7:04
folks folks eager they are eager to jump
7:07
on um Pastor Mike you rejuvenated a a
7:11
genre of music um that was very
7:13
important to my own personal development
7:15
and so for that um I'm forever grateful
7:18
to you and the culture of what we do
7:21
should recognize that you've been doing
7:22
this for a long time man so you reach
7:25
legendary status homie you there right
7:28
battle cat what you say man can you give
7:30
him I mean listen uh I had my dope
7:33
encounters with him through Snoop Dogg
7:35
and a little bit before following here
7:37
and I just commend you man you really a
7:39
Class Act and to enter the game like you
7:42
have and to be able to hold it down and
7:46
educate too you know The Young and the
7:49
old you know about what this thing is
7:50
about man so salute to you man you know
7:53
it's a mere reflection of myself you
7:55
know to to have this uh community of DJs
7:58
like ourselves
8:00
uh doing a service to the world you know
8:02
what I'm saying they really need this
8:03
you know what I'm saying and give hope
8:05
to the Young Generation to become who we
8:07
are today as well so man well thank you
8:09
so much thank you both that means the
8:11
world and I just want to set the stage
8:13
to the people listening to what I just
8:15
walked
8:16
into it's early in the morning as
8:18
everyone knows yep and we're in Los
8:21
Angeles so we're three hours behind the
8:24
East Coast obviously I'm sitting in the
8:26
waiting room at the crack of dawn and
8:28
sway comes to get to bring me in the
8:30
studio I had no idea what I was about to
8:33
walk into and I walk
8:36
in to musical
8:39
greatness to DJ
8:43
greatness and EM blessed with a
8:47
surprise 30
8:49
minutes of musical
8:53
education because you sir DJ Battlecat
8:57
took me to school
9:00
earlier than I would have even been at
9:02
school had I been in
9:04
school
9:05
oh when I watch you DJ yes sir it's so
9:10
clear that I'm watching a
9:14
producer how you
9:16
manipulate the
9:18
records how you mix the records there is
9:22
not a moment of your set that felt
9:27
uninteractive
9:30
mhm every second of what you
9:33
did felt like you were
9:37
collaborating with the
9:39
music and I appreciated every second of
9:42
it I
9:44
appreciated the samples the tribe call
9:47
Quest luck of Lucen sample on was there
9:50
a Jay don't walk away sample there were
9:54
several very
9:56
very um dope samples for for people out
9:59
there who might not know where those
10:03
classic hip-hop records came from but I
10:05
could go on and on every second of it
10:06
was great I actually wish I got to hear
10:09
you more often because I need to come
10:12
check you wherever you are because that
10:14
was an incredible surprise thank you
10:17
King which I knew nothing about no one
10:19
told me Battlecat was going to be here
10:20
yeah that was for you I thought I was
10:22
walking in to silence no no no that was
10:24
for you brother let me ask y'all this as
10:26
DJs uh in your in your evolution
10:30
like you're naming samples right now it
10:32
was a at a point where DJs didn't name
10:35
their samples were you ever at that
10:36
stage in your career or producers didn't
10:39
name the samples but DJs used to cover
10:41
up the the vinyl so you you couldn't
10:44
even see the label in which the record
10:45
came from right yes we come from that
10:48
yeah man you were like that at Battle C
10:50
when did that first like that was in the
10:51
beginning stages I want to say uh maybe
10:55
82 83 because of seeing Uncle James on
10:58
me
10:59
and seeing
11:01
how they wanted to be original and they
11:04
didn't want anyone
11:06
to have that information right right off
11:09
hand and I understand that because you
11:12
have to own your own and you got to find
11:15
your Niche and your selection and
11:18
transition of what you're going to
11:20
present as a DJ and eventually you know
11:23
you just had to do your research and go
11:25
down to the your nearest store or your
11:28
mother and father will educate you to
11:30
certain situations because see them
11:31
records that I was playing you know that
11:33
was 70 driven or uh 60 or 70 driven was
11:37
in my mom's house so those the ones I
11:41
would cover up okay you know the other
11:43
ones it was obvious they could go get
11:45
themselves but them Classics I would
11:48
cover and make them go do the research
11:51
and and and it paid off doing so until
11:53
everyone you know start really educating
11:56
themselves and tuning in then that felt
11:58
good cuz they earned
11:59
their position to have a conversation
12:02
with me about the classics and the
12:05
history meaning the musicians the record
12:08
companies cuz we was in into the
12:11
fundamentals of reading the credit you
12:13
know which they don't do now you know
12:15
and that you know that's crazy to me
12:17
that they don't and then they put their
12:18
own spin or who they think did what or
12:20
who played what or what that was you
12:22
know so to get back to that I'm glad you
12:24
mentioned that it's so dope it's well
12:26
you know I think it's important because
12:29
what you do now
12:31
is it's almost like you're putting the
12:34
sample in front of folks you know what I
12:36
mean so to speak like if you put Evelyn
12:39
Champagne King on Pastor Mike you know
12:41
what I mean you know she's somebody
12:44
episode four episode 4 oh oh you see see
12:48
see that's why he is who he is a
12:50
reference right but but when I first
12:52
used to see you like at Club Lotus or
12:54
you know I always bump into you at yeah
12:57
yo Cassidy will be that kid in the
12:59
basement spinning but it's like who the
13:01
hell is in the basement that's where
13:03
puff found them yeah so right so uh so
13:06
but even before that you know and so how
13:09
were you at that time what was your
13:12
vision like was it just to play parties
13:15
did you know did you have a style you
13:17
know very interesting question um the
13:21
vision developed obviously over the
13:23
years as a young
13:26
kid age say 10 to 18 all right I just
13:30
wanted to DJ in front of people
13:32
literally in front of people yeah I
13:34
wanted to get out of my bedroom and DJ
13:37
for people and it started
13:40
dejing um um through school parties you
13:44
know um school talent shows School
13:47
homecoming parties and then kids would
13:49
throw little parties
13:51
and I somehow worked my way into the New
13:55
York City nightlife world and that's
13:58
when chap two really started and I felt
14:01
like to some extent I had arrived
14:04
because I was dejing for people who were
14:06
older than me and at that point I felt
14:09
like okay now I'm out of my inner circle
14:13
of
14:14
kids and um you know very early on I was
14:19
a very
14:20
close-minded um hip-hop kid mhm at first
14:25
hip-hop made me very close-minded I
14:27
thought that to fully embrace hip-hop
14:29
you had to hate everything else huh
14:31
little did I know that was um the
14:34
complete opposite of what hip-hop was
14:37
and I learned that through idolizing
14:40
Grandmaster Flash and cool herk and
14:42
Africa bambata and what I learned about
14:45
them as a kid was that they weren't
14:48
playing hip-hop because there was no
14:50
hip-hop they were creating hip-hop by
14:53
playing all kinds of
14:55
music and when that dawned on me it
14:58
completely changed my outlook yes on
15:00
what I did and I grew to be a kid who
15:05
wanted to play all music for all people
15:08
all over the world that became my motto
15:10
so I went from being a very
15:13
close-minded
15:14
DJ to a DJ who wanted to learn
15:19
everything so now I would go to the
15:23
vintage record stores on the
15:27
weekends and read every album cover and
15:31
read all the liner
15:34
notes and I quickly learned
15:38
that music but particularly R&B music of
15:42
the 1970s and 80s was very incestuous in
15:47
the way that everyone worked with each
15:48
other and so one so one name always led
15:53
to the next and I began to understand
15:56
who was who and really learn learn about
15:59
the
16:00
music that that laid the foundation for
16:04
hip-hop and that really led me
16:07
ultimately in my late teens and my early
16:09
20s to what became kind of my signature
16:13
sound in many circles which was my
16:16
ability um um and my desire to
16:20
incorporate the Soul music of the 1970s
16:23
and 80s into everything I did and
16:26
everywhere I played this DJ Cassidy and
16:29
DJ Battlecat here uh two legends I saw
16:33
Rick rubben a clip of a rick ruin
16:35
interview and I'm paraphrasing and
16:37
salute to Rick Rubin where he talked
16:39
about when making music uh the audience
16:42
is the last person I just saw that clip
16:45
you saw that clip right yeah that's deep
16:46
he said the audience is the last person
16:48
to matter right when you making music
16:51
but with
16:52
DJing it feels like it's the total
16:54
opposite or is it
16:56
not well I think it's a negotiation okay
17:00
and I'm and a good
17:02
answer and I'm curious to hear what
17:05
Battlecat thinks okay I have always
17:08
believed
17:09
that to be the greatest challenge for a
17:14
DJ to
17:17
negotiate the desires of the
17:20
audience and their own personal
17:23
taste and if you're able to find that
17:26
perfect sweet spot
17:29
in a way that
17:33
highlights your own signature sound and
17:36
identity then you've nailed it and I
17:39
don't think anyone ever Nails it I think
17:43
it's a
17:44
constant um a constant journey to get
17:48
there and that's what makes it
17:50
interesting I've always wanted to please
17:52
the people I've always wanted to rock
17:54
the party I've always believed that to
17:57
be my job
17:58
and if I was able to do that in a way
18:01
that also gave me goosebumps yeah then I
18:05
succeeded and if I was able to do that
18:09
in a
18:10
way
18:13
that formed a signature
18:17
sound then I succeeded and I think
18:20
that's really the Journey of being a
18:23
great DJ what are your thoughts about
18:25
okay mean he almost said everything
18:30
um that needed to be said you know I
18:33
don't want to put the two on the 10 but
18:35
I agree and it's a marriage for sure you
18:38
you know you you talking about different
18:40
walks of life they come to relieve
18:44
themselves from a place
18:45
[Music]
18:46
of uh challenging things in life and
18:49
they want to hear something that
18:51
reflects and motivates them to go
18:53
forward in Life or maybe you know
18:55
resonate where they at and so reading
18:58
the crowd is a must and having your ears
19:01
to the
19:03
streets and what's going on in the world
19:06
it's amazing how these records are made
19:08
and you're able to arrange and make your
19:10
playlist and say you know what I want to
19:12
I want them to feel like they're in a
19:16
special place and like Dr Dre will
19:19
always tell me you know cat is it needs
19:21
to feel like an in
19:23
experience and so I make sure that
19:26
anytime that I touch the timetable that
19:28
I do just that and um like I said One S
19:34
one voice and I learned so much from the
19:38
founders on in my backyard that are the
19:40
cool cool Herz The grandm Flash all the
19:44
ecin b bs of the West Coast that will be
19:47
Roger Clayton rest in peace Uncle jam on
19:50
me that would be uh KDAY they will be KJ
19:53
H uh Frankie Ross and them it will be uh
19:58
gyps and lover of course bcat that's why
20:00
I say gy I mean you know I can't just
20:02
say him individual Uncle J Army cover
20:05
all CU otherwi they'll get at you yeah
20:07
they'll be at me real
20:08
tough then we had the world class
20:10
wrecking crew we had Chris the
20:13
glove and uh DJ regge really is my my
20:18
Grandmaster Flash first for me because
20:21
in 1979 that was my bug itch and and and
20:26
and and uh thing that where I fell in
20:28
love uh with hip hop and the Art of
20:31
dejing I Incorporated with me being the
20:33
musician and the producer so it's
20:35
another thing too because the DJ game
20:38
almost in a sense faded the the
20:41
musicians out the
20:43
mix and I seen that happening and so me
20:46
it was
20:48
uh it was a thing to connect them both
20:50
because I'm a musician first
20:52
so I was I I would have opportunities to
20:55
play my drums along
20:58
with my uh DJ setup which was unique for
21:02
me and this is what Cassidy is talking
21:04
about he experienced production and
21:09
musicianship as a DJ and that's where I
21:11
come from I want to embody it all to
21:14
show everyone that we B we belong
21:17
together there's no
21:19
segregated uh mind state to this thing
21:21
called entertainment and music you know
21:23
you must show the appreciation and the
21:26
foundation of where this thing come from
21:28
well Dr Dre in your opinion like when I
21:31
think of DJs cuz I I saw Dr Dre as a DJ
21:34
before I saw him as a producer right and
21:38
you know what I mean and same here for
21:40
me okay Dr Dre came up and djed a sway
21:42
and King Tech party and haward once he
21:45
didn't know who we were we I don't think
21:47
we were we year this might have been
21:51
um 88 89 yeah 88 yeah that's crazy yeah
21:56
this before we even got on radio two
21:58
different come on come on come try
22:00
that's why when they talk about me I
22:02
tell them I think you should be
22:04
quiet see all right there's always more
22:07
pages to the story pages to the story
22:09
but that that and you both are DJs
22:13
producers and done music and we see khed
22:16
and his success and different people who
22:18
went from DJing to producing but it
22:20
ain't always easy no who Dre not
22:23
included but who are you think some of
22:25
the people who've done it well made that
22:28
Collision happened bobcat
22:32
bobcat uh I went to school with him so
22:34
to see
22:36
him uh for years DJ and at the age of 15
22:41
16 years
22:42
old was crazy cuz these guys was maybe
22:47
five years older than him when he joined
22:49
Uncle Jam
22:50
Moy but to seeing him transition into a
22:54
musician and stand firm behind LL cooj
22:57
just blew my mind wow because that still
23:00
happened at a young age thanks to his
23:02
his Big Brothers LA posi that's Muffler
23:06
uh DJ p and uh big dad you know what I'm
23:10
saying La posi them three kidnapped
23:12
Bobcat early on and took him to New York
23:15
and it was a life changer to see him
23:17
come back and be both and be great at
23:20
them both so what what about you Cassidy
23:23
any well so many DJs in the golden era
23:28
of
23:29
hip-hop were producers and were star
23:32
producers DJ Premiere d d Pete Rock
23:37
Jazzy Jeff oh my God I mean their names
23:40
were first in the
23:42
group yeah yeah and D you know I'm glad
23:44
you said that cuz you triggered the rest
23:46
of my homies Chris the glove another one
23:48
you know to star with IC tea but then to
23:50
watch him go for M tea to death row and
23:54
be a part of that you know Jin and juice
23:57
what's my name you know you know that's
23:59
Chris the glove and Dre you know so Dre
24:02
as well uh I would say DJ quick but we
24:06
didn't see a lot of DJ from Quick uhuh
24:08
but I met him I battled him the first
24:11
time I met DJ quick so turnt yeah yeah
24:13
we met that's how we met that's how
24:15
y'all met what what was the Battle what
24:19
well who name is
24:22
Battle you had to see that answer you
24:25
couldn't hear that
24:26
answer know where this footage goes but
24:29
you had to see the answer to see it and
24:31
it was crazy because his setup his setup
24:33
was two 12s and a Gemini mix on top of
24:36
an ironing board oh so we talking about
24:39
real La boy look and culture you know in
24:43
the kitchen with a with a six track a
24:46
cashio uh uh keyboard and sp1 1200 and a
24:51
stack of Records that's how I met quick
24:53
wow with the burgundy trim sweatsuit he
24:55
was wearing he always mentioning tonight
24:57
so yeah just humble beginners of stuff
24:59
like that yeah you beat quick in this in
25:01
the battle I mean and and we we end up
25:03
becoming best friends and we exchange
25:05
sounds and some of my sounds ended up in
25:08
his hits records like tonight and uh uh
25:11
War g [ __ ] better have my money that
25:13
was Battle cat drum signature and sounds
25:16
I I would just say sounds but their
25:19
instrumentation took it to another level
25:21
which I wouldn't imagine at that time
25:23
being a kid young kid young man you know
25:26
it just it just crazy man La got a a
25:29
rich rich history and it's going to be
25:32
told in in a unique way especially
25:34
through Battle Cats uh docu Series so
25:37
those are things to come hey man I know
25:39
go ahead the LA hipop history in this
25:42
room sitting between the two of you is
25:45
so deep I'm a little
25:47
overwhelmed you need a life jacket for
25:49
it for sure fit in don't he yeah he
25:52
right there crazy and I'm from the bay
25:54
but I came King Tech and I came to LA
25:57
and and start working on the beat back
25:58
in I want to say '93 so um and we had we
26:03
we still have our home and we haven't
26:04
left since so um but 93 and La received
26:09
us well you know and at at that time
26:12
Julio G and E E had the ruthless radio
26:15
Mike nardone King El had their Friday
26:18
Night Show Adrian help me out who else
26:20
has show come on man Baker Boys Baker
26:23
Boys Nick and E you know let's go
26:25
michaelx more more rest and
26:30
power the that's the whole K Mix Master
26:32
that's my crew Julio G K you know Tony
26:37
Jam James CH Mr CH and C minus
26:43
Ralph yo this is what I walked into so
26:47
I'm not just saying this look the whole
26:49
K crew I'm from I'm from New York City
26:52
to be so so to be sitting here between
26:56
two c
26:58
California hip hop Legends whose history
27:02
goes so deep in the culture
27:07
feels kind of like a
27:09
mindboggling experience that's beautiful
27:12
that's beautiful my y'all jump in and
27:15
don't be just look like you know what
27:16
you talking about like y' spectating
27:19
anyways this has been an incredibly bomb
27:21
conversation sincerely like Cassie the
27:23
way you said walking in and seeing
27:25
Battlecat was like going to school and
27:27
we are class is in session yet again
27:30
with y'all two sharing these thank you
27:31
ladies and gentlemen I wanted your POV
27:34
so yesterday we had hit booy and his
27:36
father big hit right and hit booy who
27:39
God bless him such a incredible Talent
27:41
yep Grammy nomination for producer of
27:43
the year he had mentioned how right now
27:46
something that irks him a bit is when he
27:49
looks at a song and there's many many
27:51
producers on it right he was talking
27:53
about a time where you knew that
27:55
timberin was the producer behind some
27:59
tremendous records and he owned an era
28:02
or like farel owned an era and that's
28:04
what he wants for himself do you guys
28:07
share that sentiment or do you feel like
28:09
the spirit of collaboration even if it
28:12
is hyper collaboration in a sense is
28:14
better for hip-hop you know um I think
28:18
if we get back to that I think an artist
28:20
will have a chance to have a distinctive
28:22
sound that's another thing you you know
28:25
you know when you pull from these
28:26
different musicians and producers there
28:29
got to be something special and and
28:31
people who I know who have done that and
28:33
it it might sound like I'm you know
28:36
pushing them out there but between Dre
28:38
and quiny Jones they did that ultimately
28:41
successful grabbing other musicians and
28:43
other producers to make another make a
28:45
record go you know Quincy showed us how
28:48
to do that and if you want to go back
28:49
just go back and look at certain albums
28:52
or projects that he produced and you'll
28:54
see that oh if he got Ray Parker Jr who
28:57
was a musician or he if he went and got
28:59
the Brothers Johnson
29:02
or Stevie Wonder You know if just
29:04
amazing how Quincy did that they was
29:06
successful on their own right but I love
29:08
how he grabbed them to make it happen
29:11
like even uh the Michael Jackson first
29:13
album uh Off the Wall Off the Wall if
29:16
you look back and you look at the credit
29:18
it'll blow your mind and see all of the
29:20
successful artists musician writers
29:23
producers that he handpicked to make go
29:26
but you
29:27
but everyone was successful in their own
29:30
right that made sense when you can bring
29:31
them like that but for artist to have a
29:34
chance I feel you one th wow um what I
29:39
think the homie hit boy did he did bring
29:42
certain select selective producers and
29:45
writers and musicians to make it go but
29:48
it was still the top hat of him being in
29:51
the producer and being responsible to
29:54
make it cohesive uhhuh and that I think
29:56
that's the key but if we had to go back
30:00
I would love to to do so you know
30:03
because when you had a mly m you knew
30:04
Marly
30:05
M
30:07
um coh handedly just successfully
30:11
thoroughly created a sound that where
30:14
you knew that was cold chilling yeah or
30:17
same way with death row yeah or same way
30:19
with ruthless it's only two producers
30:22
it's it's it's it's it's uh Dre and um
30:26
and and uh yellow yellow but same way
30:29
with cash money early on man Manny
30:32
freshh on that one name and it's amazing
30:35
how diverse he was in his production
30:39
yeah the same way with me doing Domino's
30:41
album that's me nine out of 10 uh here
30:44
we go here we go you feel me sweet
30:46
potato pie po p you feel me you knew and
30:49
that I think that's so important that we
30:51
get back to that period one producer one
30:53
sound one voice I love that you want
30:56
it's what made Pete Rock and DJ Premiere
30:59
and so many of these artists great that
31:00
sound like you knew a premere beat you
31:02
knew a kg beat from drop you got to you
31:06
got to salute these producers to y'all's
31:08
point Thank you thank you for that note
31:10
and let me throw a aunt Banks beat you
31:13
know A banks beat even recently on a uh
31:16
I'm trying to say who project it was I
31:18
couldn't believe I said the big homie
31:20
still got he I'm 55 so he got to be
31:23
maybe 56 or 57 but he ain't with no
31:26
slacking in his and it's macking I'm
31:28
like Jesus thank you big homie I love
31:32
when our our family is resilient and
31:34
ain't trying to put a a not top obituary
31:37
on that get down don't do that man you
31:39
don't do that oh I like that listen um I
31:42
got my next guest Rex life Rogers here
31:44
artist out of the bay so he got a new
31:46
project but got it I mean Cassidy tell
31:48
