Yemen: Yemeni army says it captured 'vast areas' from Houthis in northern Yemen.

In a statement on US social media platform X, the army's media center said forces also cut off Houthis' supply lines on the eastern fronts of Al-Hazm, the provincial capital of Al-Jawf. “Our armed forces today took control of the Al-Mutahaffat area, Al-Masariya Hill and the hills adjacent to Al-Faraid Hill, north of Al-Labanat Al-Olya in Al-Jawf province," it said. It added that government forces took control of “earthworks and trenches extending for about 20 km (12.5 miles), from the Al-Duhaydah positions through Al-Saara to Bir Al-Maraziq, east of Al-Hazm.” Several Houthi fighters were also captured or killed and others wounded during fighting, the army claimed. Amid the field advances, the statement said army aircraft carried out “focused and precise airstrikes” on Houthi gatherings and positions, destroying military vehicles and equipment. In a parallel development, the government-aligned National Resistance Forces announced in a statement carried by its 2 December news agency that their naval forces "engaged" Houthi boats in the Red Sea. Maval forces forced Houthi boats "to retreat north toward the city of Hodeidah," it added. The Houthis did not comment on the statements. Yemeni government forces have previously announced on several occasions that they destroyed Houthi boats off the coast of the strategic port of Mokha, near the Bab al-Mandab Strait. - Fighting intensifies Fighting has intensified in recent days on several fronts, particularly in Taiz, Al-Jawf and Al-Bayda, alongside airstrikes targeting Houthi positions. The escalation has also spilled into neighboring Saudi Arabia. Riyadh said Tuesday that Houthi attacks targeting civilian and economic sites in the southwestern cities of Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran injured 73 civilians, including women and children. The Houthis, accused of receiving Iranian support, claimed that they targeted facilities belonging to Saudi energy company Aramco and an air base with dozens of ballistic missiles and drones. Yemen has been engulfed in conflict since the Houthis seized the national capital of Sanaa and several provinces in September 2014. A Saudi-led Arab coalition intervened in March 2015 in support of the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
