According to the U.S. Geological Survey, magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes struck Venezuela 39 seconds apart on Wednesday. The 7.5 quake hit near Yumare in Yaracuy state, while the 7.2 quake struck near San Felipe. National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez said the death toll had risen to 1,430, with 3,238 people injured. Authorities also warned the disaster could affect up to 6.76 million people as damage assessments and rescue operations continued.
