WIDE SHOT OF TEMPORARY TENT CAMPLA GUAIRA, VENEZUELA - AUG. 29: Thousands of earthquake survivors continued to live in temporary tent camps in Venezuela’s La Guaira region on Saturday, Aug. 29, more than two months after two earthquakes struck the country. People who lost their homes and relatives in the earthquakes are living under difficult conditions amid inadequate infrastructure, limited access to health services and declining international aid. Conditions in the camps have also negatively affected the physical and mental well-being of children and adults. Residents have developed their own forms of community support to meet daily needs while waiting for authorities to provide permanent solutions. Children living in the camps are also receiving lessons provided by volunteer educators. The magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes struck Venezuela on June 24, causing widespread destruction and prompting national emergency measures.
