US search-and-rescue teams lifted the child from the debris before carrying the baby to waiting medics. Video released by the US Department of State captured the rescue operation. According to the US Geological Survey, magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes struck Venezuela 39 seconds apart on Wednesday. National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez said the death toll had risen to 1,430, with 3,238 people injured, as rescue efforts continued across affected areas.
