US: Two Snorkelers Pulled To Safety After Strong Currents Sweep Them Away In Florida.
Jul 10, 2026
Destin, United States - July 04, 2026 Two snorkelers found themselves in serious trouble after the strong outgoing current at East Pass pulled them farther and farther from shore. Tired and unable to make it back to land, the pair was running out of options as they drifted away in the powerful current. Two members of the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit were already on the water when Sgt. Pierre Batiste spotted the distressed snorkelers waving their arms for help. Marine Unit officers maneuvered their patrol boat to the swimmers, brought them safely aboard, and transported them back to shore unharmed. The rescue unfolded at Destin's East Pass, where officials warned that the currents can be extremely strong and can carry even good swimmers away from shore. Lt. Brian Parkton and Sgt. Pierre Batiste were credited for their quick actions during the rescue.
