UK: $6.7 Million Footbridge Lifted Into Place Above Railway Tracks In Scotland.
Oct 8, 2026
Cardenden, United Kingdom - October 06, 2026 A new $6.7 million footbridge has been lifted into place above the railway tracks at Cardenden station as part of a major project to modernise and electrify the railway in Fife. Drone footage shows the large steel structure being lifted above the tracks and positioned at the station. The new bridge will provide step-free access between platforms through two new lifts, making the station easier to use for passengers with reduced mobility and those travelling with luggage or prams. The structure has been built higher than the existing footbridge to allow overhead wires to be installed through the station. The wires will provide power for new battery-electric trains being introduced in Fife in the coming years. With the bridge now in place, crews will focus on fitting out the structure and installing and commissioning the lifts. It is expected to open to passengers in spring 2027. The existing footbridge will remain in use until the new one opens, after which it will be removed. The Scottish Government is investing about $419 million to electrify 118 kilometres of railway in Fife and introduce new battery-electric trains, reducing reliance on diesel and helping cut emissions.
