Poland: Train Slams Into Truck Trapped On Railway Crossing.

Gdańsk, Poland - September 03, 2026 A truck was struck by a PKP Intercity train after entering a railway crossing as the barriers were lowering on 3 September 2026. Monitoring footage shows the orange truck entering the crossing before stopping with its trailer across the tracks. The barriers continue to descend as the train approaches. The train then slams into the trailer, sending debris across the roadway and grass. Silver-and-green passenger coaches pass through the crossing after the impact, while one barrier remains down. PLK SA said witnesses signalled the professional driver to break the barrier and leave the crossing, but he did not. The train driver was taken to hospital, making one person injured. PLK said the truck driver and passengers were uninjured. About 250–300 passengers were aboard the train. The collision damaged railway infrastructure and the locomotive, while Track 1 on the Pruszcz Gdański–Gdańsk Południowy section was damaged. Traffic was severely restricted for hours, with trains diverted via Gdańsk Olszynka. Full timetable operation returned late that night. The disruption left 204 passenger trains with a combined 17,598 minutes of delays, more than 293 hours. Thirty trains were cancelled on parts of their routes and 45 were diverted. Carriers also honoured one another’s tickets. On 4 September, PLK SA estimated infrastructure repairs at about €32,400 and said it would seek reimbursement from the party responsible.
