VARIOUS OF EMERGENCY TEAMS AT SCENE MERSIN, TÜRKİYE - MAY 13, 2026: A worker was killed following an explosion at a fuel storage facility in Türkiye’s southern Mersin Province on Wednesday, May 13. The blast erupted in one of the facility’s tanks for reasons that remain under investigation, sparking a fire. The victim, identified as 47-year-old Suleyman Guner, was working on top of the tank when the explosion occurred. He fell to the ground and suffered severe injuries. Guner was transported to Toros State Hospital, where he later died. Emergency medical teams, firefighters and rescue units were immediately dispatched to the site. Firefighters battling the blaze were assisted by water cannon vehicles, while additional crews from the provinces of Nigde, Adana, and Konya were deployed to support the operation. Authorities said the fire was brought under control, and cooling operations at the tank were continuing.
