Syria: Syria destroys one ton of war remnants, explosives in Damascus.

VARIOUS OF SYRIAN DEFENSE MINISTRY PERSONNEL LOADING AND MOVING WAR REMNANTS AND EXPLOSIVESDAMASCUS, SYRIA - AUG. 9: Syrian Defense Ministry personnel destroyed about one ton of war remnants and explosives found in residential areas of Damascus on Sunday, Aug. 9, after moving them away from populated areas to protect civilians. The remnants and explosives were collected and taken to a rural area for controlled disposal. Drone footage showed the controlled detonation, sending a large plume of smoke over the disposal site. Syria's civil war began in 2011 after anti-government protests developed into an armed conflict involving government forces, opposition groups and other armed factions. On Dec. 8, 2024, Syrian rebels entered the national capital of Damascus and announced the overthrow of Bashar Assad's regime, which had ruled from 2000 to 2024. Assad had inherited power from his father, Hafez Assad, who ruled Syria from 1971 to 2000. Syria's new administration led by Ahmed al-Sharaa has been stepping up efforts to restore security and consolidate its control as part of plans to recover from the effects of the devastating war, rebuild the country, achieve stability and revive the nation.
