Five helicopters and 10 ground crews were dispatched to contain the blaze, which scorched vegetation along a stream and spread into an open forest area, the Madrid Fire Department said. Authorities reported no injuries or damage to the treatment plant. Spain has been battling wildfires since mid-July while authorities remained on alert due to high temperatures and the risk of flare-ups. Crews worked hard to prevent flare-ups from stabilized wildfires in Avila, Madrid and Toledo. Authorities also kept watch on fires in Castellon and Tarragona ahead of a new heat wave. Residents of 15 municipalities in Madrid and Avila returned home last week, while 9,000 residents in Castellon and 6,000 residents from 11 municipalities in Toledo were also allowed to return.
