MTUG SL SUAL 1 was being towed from an area where it had previously run aground when it began listing to starboard at around 7.46 a.m. (11.46 p.m. GMT). All 10 workers were rescued and were in good condition, according to the Philippine Coast Guard. The tugboat was carrying about 15,000 liters of diesel, although its fuel tank was reported to be intact. Coast Guard teams conducted shoreline patrols and prepared oil-spill response equipment as a precaution. Authorities are investigating whether the tugboat struck submerged metal debris. The Coast Guard said strong waves and rough seas may have further affected the vessel’s stability, while the exact cause remains under investigation.
