SHOTLIST: GULF OF OMAN (JUNE 4, 2026) 1. VARIOUS OF SHIPS WAITING IN GULF OF OMANGULF OF OMAN - JUNE 4, 2026: More than 300 commercial vessels have reportedly applied for permission to transit through the Strait of Hormuz under a newly imposed maritime screening system, while dozens of ships continue to wait in the Gulf of Oman. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated that all international vessels seeking passage through the strategic waterway must comply with the new regulations. The statement, issued by the newly formed "Persian Gulf Waterway Management Authority," stipulated that all ship owners and captains are required to log their vessel data into the Iranian system to obtain mandatory transit permits before entering the strait. According to Iranian officials, the applications are currently under review, and formal approval is being granted exclusively to vessels whose transit requests are accepted by the authority. Regional tensions have escalated since the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran in February. Tehran retaliated with strikes targeting Israel as well as US allies in the Gulf, along with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The dispute over control of the Strait of Hormuz has severely disrupted global energy markets and international shipping. Tehran has restricted commercial transit through the strategic waterway, while Washington has enforced a stringent blockade on Iranian ports. US President Donald Trump has repeatedly said that he is very close to signing an end-of-war agreement that reopens the strait, dismantles Iran’s nuclear work and eliminates the country’s stockpile of enriched uranium.
