Nepal: Nepal marks Janaipurnima festival amid floods.

The celebrations included ritual baths, prayers and religious ceremonies, while shamans performed traditional rites. Men also renewed their Janai sacred threads, and priests tied sacred doro threads around devotees’ wrists. Janaipurnima is also traditionally associated with Gosainkunda in Rasuwa, where thousands of devotees travel for ritual bathing. Local religious belief holds that sacred water from Gosainkunda reaches Banglamukhi during the festival. This year’s celebrations are taking place amid devastating flash floods and landslides in Rasuwa and surrounding areas, which have disrupted roads and travel routes in the Himalayan region and left several travelers and pilgrims missing.
