Nepal: Nepal struggles to recover after devastating flash floods.

TWO PEOPLE WORKING INSIDE BUILDINGNUWAKOT, NEPAL - SEPT. 14, 2026: After the devastating flash floods that struck Nepal on August 26, people in the affected areas of Nuwakot continue to return to the ruins of their homes, searching for belongings and the last remnants of lives that were swept away. Some survivors salvage whatever they can from the debris, while others stand silently at the places where their homes once stood. Religious figures visit the affected areas to hold prayers for those who died in the disaster, with some prayers continuing for a day or two, while bereaved families gather to remember their loved ones and pray for the peace of their souls. Meanwhile, families searching for missing relatives continue to visit hospitals in Kathmandu, where they look through photographs and lists of missing people displayed on hospital walls. Some use mobile phone video calls to show the photographs to family members and seek help identifying their missing loved ones, in Nuwakot, northwest of Kathmandu. The disaster struck on August 26 when a glacier on Nepal's Mount Langtang Lirung fractured at an altitude of about 5,200 meters (17,060 feet). The fracture triggered an ice-rock avalanche that turned into a massive debris flow and swept through valleys along the border. Floodwaters and mudslides devastated Nepal's Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Kavre districts, as well as the Kathmandu Valley. The disaster also buried the Gyirong border crossing in Xizang.
