.GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - MAY 28, 2026: Children in the Nuseirat Refugee Camp in the central Gaza Strip sought a brief escape from the ongoing war to celebrate Eid al-Adha on Thursday, May 28, gathering at a makeshift mobile amusement park set up for the holiday. Palestinian families struggling to survive under severe humanitarian conditions and a continuing military blockade brought their children to the small site. While the children spent time on the few available rides, parents expressed a desire to provide their families with a fleeting taste of a normal holiday atmosphere despite the surrounding destruction. With the vast majority of Gaza's permanent entertainment and recreational areas destroyed by ongoing military strikes, the mobile park—assembled with highly limited local resources—drew intense interest from neighborhood families. Mumin Mikdad, an operator at the mobile park, noted that several rides had to remain completely stationary due to acute fuel shortages and a lack of technical maintenance materials. He added that the closure of border crossings has severely restricted not only basic survival necessities but also the replacement parts needed for daily neighborhood infrastructure. For the young attendees, many of whom are dealing with the deep psychological trauma of active conflict and multiple rounds of displacement, the small holiday site offered a rare opportunity to play, if only for a brief moment, on the second day of the traditional festival. Earlier in the day, an Israeli drone strike on a Palestinian security checkpoint killed three Palestinians and injured others in the Al-Mawasi area west of Khan Younis, medical sources said. On Wednesday, the first day of the Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday, 10 Palestinians were killed, including two girls and two women, and 18 others injured in an Israeli airstrike targeting a house near Al-Israa Tower on Omar Al-Mukhtar Street in central Gaza City. Israeli attacks have killed 910 Palestinians and injured 2,747 since a ceasefire took effect more than seven months ago, according to the Gaza Media Office. Israel launched its genocidal war on the Gaza Strip in October 2023, killing more than 72,000 Palestinians and injuring over 172,000, most of them women and children, according to Palestinian figures.
