Participants carried lit torches and chanted elegies in remembrance of Imam Hussein and the 72 companions who were killed in the Battle of Karbala. During the Islamic month of Muharram, Shia Muslims all over the world mourn the deaths of close relatives of Islam's Prophet Muhammad during the Battle of Karbala.
