They also emphasized national unity and solidarity. Mourners gathered at Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla Mosque to pay their respects, saying the ceremony reflected the Iranian people's determination to stand together in the face of adversity. Mourners wept, beat their chests and waved flags as the flag-draped coffins of Khamenei and members of his family killed in the same attack were placed in state at the mosque. Iran has organized a week of funeral ceremonies and public processions for Khamenei. Public farewell events are scheduled for July 4 and 5, followed by the main funeral procession in Tehran on July 6. The ceremonies will continue in Qom on July 7 and in the Iraqi cities of Baghdad, Najaf and Karbala on July 8 before the final funeral and burial ceremony at the Imam Ali Reza Shrine in Mashhad on July 9.
