A large platform was erected in the mosque courtyard where Khamenei's coffin and the coffins of others killed in the same attack are expected to be placed. The area around the platform was secured with concrete barriers, with access largely restricted. Cooling systems were installed in the courtyard to help attendees cope with the summer heat, while heavy machinery and cranes remained on site amid tight security measures. An international official memorial ceremony for Khamenei is scheduled for Friday, July 3, with the participation of heads of state, senior officials and religious leaders. Public funeral ceremonies are expected to begin on Saturday, July 4, following a public tribute at Imam Khomeini Mosalla Mosque, while the final funeral and burial are planned for July 9 in Mashhad.
