Hind Khoudary Opens Seaside Project 2.

Gaza - August 31, 2026 Palestinian journalist Hind Khoudary is seen at a seaside project she opened in Gaza City, Gaza Strip, after months of reporting on the war and experiencing repeated displacement. Khoudary says her home in northern Gaza was bombed, forcing her to flee south and move between hospitals and other temporary locations while continuing her work as a journalist amid Israeli bombardment. She said she witnessed the deaths of fellow journalists, experienced strikes near places where she was staying and spent long periods searching for somewhere she considered safe enough to sleep while continuing to report from the Gaza Strip. Khoudary said those experiences of displacement, loss and prolonged exposure to war inspired her to create a project by the sea where families, young people and friends could gather and spend time away from the destruction surrounding much of Gaza. She described the coastline as one of the few remaining public spaces where residents can briefly step away from the atmosphere of bombardment and damaged neighborhoods and experience a different part of daily life. Khoudary said opening the project represented a major change from documenting the war in the field to creating a place intended for social gatherings and moments of calm, while remaining closely connected to her own experience as a journalist and displaced resident of Gaza. She said she wanted the project to provide people with a space where they could meet, look toward the sea and recover some sense of ordinary life after months of conflict, displacement and widespread destruction across the Gaza Strip.
