Footage showed rainwater pouring onto a platform serving the Saikyo Line at Akabane Station as heavy rain swept across the Tokyo metropolitan area. Japan's Meteorological Agency issued a Level 3 heavy rain warning for parts of the Tokyo metropolitan area and warned of localized downpours, flooding in low-lying areas, rising river levels and possible landslides. The agency said heavy rain, lightning and hail could continue in parts of eastern and northern Japan through Friday.
