Hanno City in Saitama Prefecture was among the areas affected, with intense rainfall and hail hitting streets and residential neighborhoods. Japan's Meteorological Agency issued a Level 3 heavy rain warning for parts of the Tokyo metropolitan area and warned of localized downpours, flooding in low-lying areas, rising river levels and possible landslides. The agency said heavy rain, lightning and hail could continue in parts of eastern and northern Japan through Friday.
