The tournament was organized in honor of Al-Sharif, who was killed in an Israeli strike that directly targeted a journalists' tent near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. Held during the same period as the FIFA World Cup, the event highlighted the continued passion for sport despite the war and destruction in the enclave. Palestinian national team player Mohammed Al-Taramsi said the tournament aimed to demonstrate that Gazans continue to hold on to life despite the hardships they face, adding that Palestinians want to return to normal life, play football and celebrate moments of joy. Spectator Ahmed Al-Basm said enthusiasm for sports remains strong in Gaza despite the ongoing conflict and destruction, expressing hope that sporting activities would continue to be revived. He also called on Arab fans following the World Cup to make the Palestinian flag and cause visible throughout the tournament.
