Oct 2, 2026
Pereira, Colombia - October 01, 2026 Rescue teams pulled two people alive from the rubble after a building collapsed in central Pereira on Thursday, October 1. Firefighters, Civil Defense teams and other emergency responders secured and reinforced the damaged structure before beginning rescue operations. The building had previously been declared unsafe following an August 10 earthquake, and authorities had recommended its demolition. Rescuers working with a police rescue group and members of the community located two people trapped beneath the collapsed structure and brought them out alive. Both received medical attention. Authorities later found a 37-year-old woman alive with her lower limbs pinned by the structure. She was given oxygen while rescuers worked to free her. Search dogs were also used to check whether anyone else or animals remained trapped inside.
